Exodus 1:9-16
And he saidH559 to his peopleH5971, Behold, the peopleH5971 of the children of IsraelH3478 are moreH4480 numerousH7227 and stronger than we.
Come on, let us deal wiselyH2449 with them, lestH6435 they multiplyH7235, and it come to pass that, if warH4421 occur, they take side with our enemies and fightH3898 against us, and goH5927 up out of the landH776.
And they setH7760 over them service-masters to oppress them with their burdens. And they builtH1129 store-cities for PharaohH6547, Pithom and RamesesH7486.
But the more they afflicted them, the more they multipliedH7235 and spreadH6555; and they were distressed because of the children of IsraelH3478.
And the EgyptiansH4713 made the children of IsraelH3478 serveH5647 with harshness;
and they embittered their lifeH2416 with hardH7186 labour in clay and bricksH3843, and in all manner of labour in the fieldH7704: all their labour with which they made them serveH5647 was with harshness.
And the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 spoke to the HebrewH5680 midwives — of whom the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was Shiphrah, and the nameH8034 of the other was Puah —
and he saidH559, When ye help the HebrewH5680 women in bearingH3205, and seeH7200 [them] on the stool, if it be a sonH1121, then ye shall killH4191 him, but if a daughterH1323, then she shall live.
