Exodus 32

Darby Bible

1And when the peopleH5971 sawH7200 that MosesH4872 delayedH954 to come down from the mountainH2022, the peopleH5971 collected together to AaronH175, and saidH559 to him, Up, makeH6213 us a 1godH430, who will goH5927 before us; for this MosesH4872, the manH376 that has broughtH5927 us up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, — we do not knowH3045 what is becomeH1961 of him! 2And AaronH175 saidH559 to them, Break off the golden ringsH5141 that are in the earsH241 of your wivesH802, of your sonsH1121, and of your daughtersH1323, and bringH935 [them] to me. 3Then all the peopleH5971 broke off the golden ringsH5141 that were in their earsH241, and broughtH935 [them] to AaronH175. 4And he tookH3947 [them] out of their handH3027, and fashioned it with a chisel and madeH6213 of it a molten calfH5695: and they saidH559, This is thy 2godH430, IsraelH3478, who has broughtH5927 thee up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714! 5And AaronH175 sawH7200 [it], and builtH1129 an altarH4196 before it; and AaronH175 made a proclamation, and saidH559, To-morrow is a feastH2282 to Jehovah! 6And they roseH6965 up earlyH7925 on the morrow, and offeredH5927 up burnt-offerings, and broughtH5927 peace-offerings; and the peopleH5971 satH3427 downH3427 to eatH398 and to drinkH8354, and roseH6965 up to sport. 7Then Jehovah saidH1696 to MosesH4872, Away, goH5927 down! for thy peopleH5971, which thou hast broughtH5927 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, is actingH7843 corruptlyH7843. 8They have turnedH5493 asideH5493 quicklyH4118 out of the wayH1870 that I commandedH6680 them: they have madeH6213 themselves a molten calfH5695, and have bowedH7812 downH7812 to it, and have sacrificedH2076 thereunto, and saidH559, This is thy 3godH430, IsraelH3478, who has broughtH5927 thee up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714! 9And Jehovah saidH559 to MosesH4872, I seeH7200 this peopleH5971, and behold, it is a stiff-necked peopleH5971. 10And nowH6258 let me alone, that my angerH639 may burnH2734 against them, and I may consume them; and I will makeH6213 of thee a greatH1419 nationH1471. 11And MosesH4872 besought Jehovah his 4GodH430, and saidH559, WhyH4100, Jehovah, doth thy wrath burnH2734 against thy peopleH5971, which thou hast broughtH3318 forthH3318 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 with greatH1419 power and with a strongH2389 handH3027? 12WhyH4100 should the EgyptiansH4713 speak, and sayH559, For misfortune he has broughtH3318 them out, to slayH2026 them on the mountainsH2022, and to annihilate them from the faceH6440 of the earthH127? TurnH7725 from the heat of thine angerH639, and repent of this evilH7451 against thy peopleH5971! 13RememberH2142 AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327 and IsraelH3478, thy servantsH5650, to whom thou sworest by thyself, and saidst to them, I will multiplyH7235 your seedH2233 as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064, and all this landH776 that I have spokenH1696 of will I giveH5414 to your seedH2233, and they shall possessH5157 [it] for everH5769! 14And Jehovah repentedH5162 of the evilH7451 that he had saidH1696 he would do to his peopleH5971. 15And MosesH4872 turnedH6437 and wentH3381 downH3381 from the mountainH2022, [with] the twoH8147 tables of the testimonyH5715 in his handH3027 — tables writtenH3789 on both their sidesH5676: on this sideH5676 and on that were they writtenH3789. 16And the tables [were] 5God's workH4639, and the writing was 6God's writing, engraven on the tables. 17And JoshuaH3091 heardH8085 the noise of the peopleH5971 as they shoutedH7452, and saidH559 to MosesH4872, There is a shout of warH4421 in the campH4264. 18And he saidH559, It is not the soundH6963 of a shout of victory, neither is it the soundH6963 of a shout of defeat: it is the noise of alternate singing I hearH8085. 19And it came to pass, when he came near the campH4264, and sawH7200 the calfH5695 and the dancingH4246, that Moses' angerH639 burnedH2734, and he castH7993 the tables out of his handsH3027, and shatteredH7665 them beneath the mountainH2022. 20And he tookH3947 the calfH5695 that they had madeH6213, and burnedH8313 [it] with fireH784, and ground it to powder, and strewed [it] on the waterH4325, and madeH6213 the children of IsraelH3478 drinkH8248 [it]. 21And MosesH4872 saidH559 to AaronH175, What has this peopleH5971 done to thee, that thou hast broughtH935 so greatH1419 a sinH2401 on them? 22And AaronH175 saidH559, Let not the angerH639 of my lordH113 burnH2734! thou knowest the peopleH5971, that they are [set] on mischief. 23And they saidH559 to me, MakeH6213 us a 7godH430, who will goH5927 before us; for this MosesH4872, the manH376 that has broughtH5927 us up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, we do not knowH3045 what is becomeH1961 of him! 24And I saidH559 to them, Who has goldH2091? They broke [it] off, and gaveH5414 [it] me, and I castH7993 it into the fireH784, and there cameH3318 out this calfH5695. 25And MosesH4872 sawH7200 the peopleH5971 how they were stripped; for AaronH175 had stripped them to [their] shame before their adversaries. 26And MosesH4872 stoodH5975 in the gateH8179 of the campH4264, and saidH559, He that is for Jehovah, [let him come] to me. And all the sonsH1121 of LeviH3878 gatheredH622 to him. 27And he saidH559 to them, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the 8GodH430 of IsraelH3478: PutH7760 every manH376 his swordH2719 upon his hip; goH7725 and returnH7725 from gateH8179 to gateH8179 through the campH4264, and slayH2026 every manH376 his brotherH251, and every manH376 his friendH7453, and every manH376 his neighbour. 28And the sonsH1121 of LeviH3878 did according to the wordH1697 of MosesH4872; and there fellH5307 of the peopleH5971 that dayH3117 about threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376. 29And MosesH4872 saidH559, Consecrate yourselves to-day to Jehovah, yea, every manH376 with his sonH1121, and with his brotherH251, and bring on yourselves a blessingH1293 to-day. 30And it came to pass the nextH4283 dayH4283, that MosesH4872 saidH559 to the peopleH5971, Ye have sinnedH2398 a greatH1419 sinH2398. And nowH6258 I will goH5927 up to Jehovah: perhapsH194 I shall make atonementH3722 for your sinH2398. 31And MosesH4872 returnedH7725 to Jehovah, and saidH559, Alas, this peopleH5971 has sinnedH2398 a greatH1419 sinH2398, and they have madeH6213 themselves a 9godH430 of goldH2091! 32And nowH6258, if thou wilt forgiveH5375 their sinH2403...but if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy bookH5612 that thou hast writtenH3789. 33And Jehovah saidH559 to MosesH4872, Whoever hath sinnedH2398 against me, him will I blot out of my bookH5612. 34And nowH6258 go, leadH5148 the peopleH5971 whither I have told thee: behold, my AngelH4397 shall go before thee; but in the dayH3117 of my visitingH6485 I will visitH6485 their sinH2403 upon them. 35And Jehovah smote the peopleH5971, because they madeH6213 the calfH5695, which AaronH175 had madeH6213.
