Exodus 5
Darby Bible
1And afterwards MosesH4872 and AaronH175 wentH935 in, and saidH559 to PharaohH6547, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478, Let my peopleH5971 goH935 that they may celebrateH2287 a feast to me in the wildernessH4057. 2And PharaohH6547 saidH559, Who is Jehovah, to whose voiceH6963 I am to hearken to let IsraelH3478 goH7971? I do not knowH3045 Jehovah, neither will I let IsraelH3478 goH7971. 3And they saidH559, The 2GodH430 of the HebrewsH5680 has metH7122 with us: let us go, we pray thee, threeH7969 days' journeyH1870 into the wildernessH4057, and sacrificeH2076 to Jehovah our 3GodH430; lestH6435 he fallH6293 upon us with pestilenceH1698 or with swordH2719. 4And the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 saidH559 to them, WhyH4100 do ye, MosesH4872 and AaronH175, wish to have the peopleH5971 go off from their worksH4639? Away, to your burdens! 5And PharaohH6547 saidH559, Behold the peopleH5971 of the landH776 are nowH6258 manyH7227, and ye wish to make them rest from their burdens. 6And PharaohH6547 commandedH6680 the same dayH3117 the taskmastersH5065 of the peopleH5971, and their officersH7860, sayingH559, 7Ye shall no more giveH5414 the peopleH5971 strawH8401 to makeH5414 brickH3843, as heretofore: let them go and gather strawH8401 for themselves. 8And the number of the bricksH3843 they have madeH6213 heretofore shall ye lay upon them: ye shall not diminish any of it, for they are idle; thereforeH3651 they cryH6817, sayingH559, Let us goH7503 [and] sacrificeH2076 to our 4GodH430. 9Let them put heavierH3513 labour on the menH376, that they may be taken up with it, and not regard vain wordsH1697. 10And the taskmastersH5065 of the peopleH5971 and their officersH7860 wentH3318 out and spoke to the peopleH5971, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saysH559 PharaohH6547: I will not giveH5414 you strawH8401: 11go ye, get yourselves strawH8401 whereH834 ye may findH4672 it; but none of your workH5656 shall be diminishedH1639. 12And the peopleH5971 were scatteredH6327 abroad throughout the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to gather stubbleH7179 for strawH8401. 13And the taskmastersH5065 urged [them], sayingH559, Fulfil your labours, the daily workH4639, as when there wasH1961 strawH8401. 14And the officersH7860 of the children of IsraelH3478, whom Pharaoh's taskmastersH5065 had setH7760 over them, were beaten, [and] it was saidH559, WhyH4069 have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick, both yesterdayH8543 and to-day, as heretofore? 15Then the officersH7860 of the children of IsraelH3478 cameH935 and criedH6817 to PharaohH6547, sayingH559, WhyH4100 dost thou deal thusH3541 with thy bondmen? 16There is no strawH8401 givenH5414 to thy bondmen, and they sayH559 to us, MakeH5414 brickH3843; and behold, thy bondmen are beaten, but it is the fault of thy peopleH5971. 17And he saidH559, Ye are idle, idle! thereforeH3651 ye sayH559, Let us goH7503 and sacrificeH2076 to Jehovah. 18And nowH6258 go — workH5647! and strawH8401 shall not be givenH5414 you, and ye shall deliver the measure of bricksH3843. 19And the officersH7860 of the children of IsraelH3478 sawH7200 [that] it stood ill with them, because it was saidH559, Ye shall not diminish anythingH1697 from your bricksH3843, the daily work. 20And they metH6293 MosesH4872 and AaronH175, who stoodH5324 there to meetH6293 them, as they cameH3318 out from PharaohH6547. 21And they saidH559 to them, Jehovah lookH7200 upon you and judgeH8199, that ye have madeH5414 our odour to stinkH887 in the eyesH5869 of PharaohH6547, and in the eyesH5869 of his bondmen, puttingH5414 a swordH2719 into their handH3027 to killH2026 us! 22And MosesH4872 returnedH7725 to Jehovah, and saidH559, Lord, whyH4100 hast thou done evilH7489 to this peopleH5971? whyH4100 now hast thou sentH7971 me? 23For ever since I cameH935 to PharaohH6547 to speakH1696 in thy nameH8034, he hath done evilH7489 to this peopleH5971; neither hast thou deliveredH5337 thy peopleH5971 at all!
