2 Kings 3

American Standard Version

1Now JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 began to reignH4427 over IsraelH3478 in SamariaH8111 in the eighteenth yearH8141 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and reignedH4427 twelve yearsH8141. 2And he did that which was evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, but not like his fatherH1, and like his motherH517; for he put awayH5493 the pillarH4676 of BaalH1168 that his fatherH1 had madeH6213. 3Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sinsH2398 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, wherewith he made IsraelH3478 to sinH2398; he departedH5493 not therefrom.

4Now Mesha kingH4428 of MoabH4124 wasH1961 a sheep-master; and he rendered unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 the woolH6785 of a hundredH3967 thousandH505 lambsH3733, and of a hundredH3967 thousandH505 ramsH352. 5But it came to pass, when AhabH256 wasH1961 dead, that the kingH4428 of MoabH4124 rebelledH6586 against the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 6And kingH4428 JehoramH3088 wentH3318 out of SamariaH8111 at that time, and musteredH6485 all IsraelH3478. 7And he wentH5927 and sentH7971 to JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, The kingH4428 of MoabH4124 hath rebelledH6586 against me: wilt thou goH5927 with me against MoabH4124 to battleH4421? And he saidH559, I will goH5927 up: I am as thou art, my peopleH5971 as thy peopleH5971, my horsesH5483 as thy horsesH5483. 8And he saidH559, Which wayH1870 shall we goH5927 up? And he answered, The wayH1870 of the wildernessH4057 of EdomH123. 9So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 wentH5437, and the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and the kingH4428 of EdomH123; and they made a circuit of sevenH7651 days’H3117 journeyH1870: and there wasH1961 no waterH4325 for the host, nor for the beasts that followed them. 10And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559, AlasH162! for Jehovah hath calledH7121 these threeH7969 kingsH4428 together to deliver them into the handH3027 of MoabH4124. 11But JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, Is there not hereH6311 a prophetH5030 of Jehovah, that we may inquire of Jehovah by him? And oneH259 of the kingH4428 of Israel’s servantsH5650 answered and saidH559, ElishaH477 the sonH1121 of ShaphatH8202 is hereH6311, who pouredH3332 waterH4325 on the handsH3027 of ElijahH452. 12And JehoshaphatH3092 saidH559, The wordH1697 of Jehovah is with him. So the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 and JehoshaphatH3092 and the kingH4428 of EdomH123 wentH3381 downH3381 to him.

13And ElishaH477 saidH559 unto the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophetsH5030 of thy fatherH1, and to the prophetsH5030 of thy motherH517. And the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto him, Nay; for Jehovah hath calledH7121 these threeH7969 kingsH4428 together to deliver them into the handH3027 of MoabH4124. 14And ElishaH477 saidH559, As Jehovah of hostsH6635 liveth, before whom I standH5975, surely, were it not that I regard the presenceH6440 of JehoshaphatH3092 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, I would not lookH7200 toward thee, nor seeH7200 thee. 15But nowH6258 bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel playedH5059, that the handH3027 of Jehovah came upon him. 16And he saidH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, MakeH6213 this valley full of trenches. 17For thusH3541 saith Jehovah, Ye shall not seeH7200 windH7307, neither shall ye seeH7200 rainH1653; yet that valley shall be filledH4390 with waterH4325, and ye shall drinkH8354, both ye and your cattleH929 and your beasts. 18And this is but a light thingH7043 in the sight of Jehovah: he will also deliver the Moabites into your handH3027. 19And ye shall smite every fortified cityH5892, and every choiceH4004 cityH5892, and shall fellH5307 every goodH2896 treeH6086, and stopH5640 all fountains of waterH4325, and mar every goodH2896 piece of landH2513 with stonesH68. 20And it cameH935 to pass in the morningH1242, about the time of offeringH4503 the oblation, that, behold, there cameH935 waterH4325 by the wayH1870 of EdomH123, and the country wasH1961 filledH4390 with waterH4325.

21Now when all the Moabites heardH8085 that the kingsH4428 were comeH5927 up to fightH3898 against them, they gathered themselves together, all that were able to put on armor, and upwardH4605, and stoodH5975 on the borderH1366. 22And they roseH7925 up earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and the sunH8121 shone upon the waterH4325, and the Moabites sawH7200 the waterH4325 over against them as redH122 as bloodH1818: 23and they saidH559, This is bloodH1818; the kingsH4428 are surely destroyed, and they have smitten each manH376 his fellow: nowH6258 thereforeH6258, MoabH4124, to the spoilH7998. 24And when they cameH935 to the campH4264 of IsraelH3478, the Israelites roseH6965 up and smote the Moabites, so that they fledH5127 before them; and they wentH935 forward into the land smiting the Moabites. 25And they beat down the citiesH5892; and on every goodH2896 piece of landH2513 they castH7993 every manH376 his stoneH68, and filledH4390 it; and they stoppedH5640 all the fountains of waterH4325, and felledH5307 all the goodH2896 treesH6086, until in Kir-haresethH7025 only they leftH7604 the stonesH68 thereof; howbeit the slingers wentH5437 about it, and smote it. 26And when the kingH4428 of MoabH4124 sawH7200 that the battleH4421 was too sore for him, he tookH3947 with him sevenH7651 hundredH3967 menH376 that drewH8025 swordH2719, to breakH1234 through unto the kingH4428 of EdomH123; but they could not. 27Then he tookH3947 his eldest sonH1121 that should have reignedH4427 in his stead, and offeredH5927 him for a burnt-offering upon the wallH2346. And there wasH1961 greatH1419 wrathH7110 against IsraelH3478: and they departedH5265 from him, and returnedH7725 to their own landH776.
