2 Kings 2

American Standard Version

1And it came to pass, when Jehovah would take up ElijahH452 by a whirlwind into heavenH8064, that ElijahH452 wentH5927 with ElishaH477 from GilgalH1537. 2And ElijahH452 saidH559 unto ElishaH477, Tarry hereH6311, I pray thee; for Jehovah hath sentH7971 me as far as Beth-el. And ElishaH477 saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soulH5315 liveth, I will not leaveH5800 thee. So they wentH3381 downH3381 to Beth-el. 3And the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 that were at Beth-el cameH3318 forthH3318 to ElishaH477, and saidH559 unto him, Knowest thou that Jehovah will takeH3947 awayH3947 thy masterH113 from thy headH7218 to-day? And he saidH559, Yea, I knowH3045 it; hold ye your peace. 4And ElijahH452 saidH559 unto him, ElishaH477, tarry hereH6311, I pray thee; for Jehovah hath sentH7971 me to JerichoH3405. And he saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soulH5315 liveth, I will not leaveH5800 thee. So they cameH935 to JerichoH3405. 5And the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 that were at JerichoH3405 came near to ElishaH477, and saidH559 unto him, Knowest thou that Jehovah will takeH3947 awayH3947 thy masterH113 from thy headH7218 to-day? And he answered, Yea, I knowH3045 it; hold ye your peace. 6And ElijahH452 saidH559 unto him, Tarry hereH6311, I pray thee; for Jehovah hath sentH7971 me to the JordanH3383. And he saidH559, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soulH5315 liveth, I will not leaveH5800 thee. And they twoH8147 went on. 7And fiftyH2572 menH376 of the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 wentH1980, and stoodH5975 over against them afarH7350 off: and they twoH8147 stoodH5975 by the JordanH3383. 8And ElijahH452 tookH3947 his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the watersH4325, and they were dividedH2673 hither and thither, so that they twoH8147 went over on dryH2724 groundH2724. 9And it came to passH5674, when they wereH1961 gone over, that ElijahH452 saidH559 unto ElishaH477, AskH7592 what I shall do for thee, before I amH1961 takenH3947 from thee. And ElishaH477 saidH559, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spiritH7307 beH1961 upon me. 10And he saidH559, Thou hast askedH7592 a hardH7185 thing: nevertheless, if thou seeH7200 me when I amH1961 takenH3947 from thee, it shall beH1961 soH3651 unto thee; but if not, it shall not beH1961 soH3651. 11And it came to pass, as they still wentH1980 on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariotH7393 of fireH784, and horsesH5483 of fireH784, which parted them both asunder; and ElijahH452 wentH1980 up by a whirlwind into heavenH8064. 12And ElishaH477 sawH7200 it, and he criedH6817, My fatherH1, my fatherH1, the chariotsH7393 of IsraelH3478 and the horsemenH6571 thereof!

And he sawH7200 him no more: and he tookH2388 holdH2388 of his own clothesH899, and rent them in twoH8147 pieces. 13He took up also the mantle of ElijahH452 that fellH5307 from him, and wentH7725 backH7725, and stoodH5975 by the bankH8193 of the JordanH3383. 14And he tookH3947 the mantle of ElijahH452 that fellH5307 from him, and smote the watersH4325, and saidH559, WhereH834 is Jehovah, the GodH430 of ElijahH452? and whenH834 he alsoH637 had smitten the watersH4325, they were dividedH2673 hither and thither; and ElishaH477 went over.

15And whenH834 the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 that were at JerichoH3405 over against him sawH7200 him, they saidH559, The spiritH7307 of ElijahH452 doth restH5117 on ElishaH477. And they cameH935 to meet him, and bowedH7812 themselves to the groundH776 before him. 16And they saidH559 unto him, Behold now, there are with thy servantsH5650 fiftyH2572 strong menH376; let them goH7971, we pray thee, and seekH1245 thy masterH113, lestH6435 the SpiritH7307 of Jehovah hath takenH5375 him up, and castH7993 him upon some mountainH2022, or into some valleyH1516. And he saidH559, Ye shall not sendH7971. 17And when they urged him till he was ashamedH954, he saidH559, SendH7971. They sentH7971 therefore fiftyH2572 menH376; and they soughtH1245 threeH7969 daysH3117, but foundH4672 him not. 18And they came backH7725 to him, while he tarried at JerichoH3405; and he saidH559 unto them, Did I not sayH559 unto you, GoH7725 not?

19And the menH376 of the cityH5892 saidH559 unto ElishaH477, Behold, we pray thee, the situation of this cityH5892 is pleasant, as my lordH113 seeth: but the waterH4325 is badH7451, and the landH776 miscarrieth. 20And he saidH559, Bring me a newH2319 cruse, and putH7760 saltH4417 therein. And they brought it to him. 21And he wentH3318 forthH3318 unto the spring of the watersH4325, and castH7993 saltH4417 therein, and saidH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, I have healedH7495 these watersH4325; there shall not beH1961 from thence any more deathH4194 or miscarrying. 22So the watersH4325 were healedH7495 unto this dayH3117, according to the wordH1697 of ElishaH477 which he spake.

23And he wentH3318 up from thence unto Beth-el; and as he was goingH3318 up by the wayH1870, there cameH3318 forthH3318 youngH5288 ladsH5288 out of the cityH5892, and mocked him, and saidH559 unto him, GoH3318 up, thou baldhead; goH3318 up, thou baldhead. 24And he lookedH7200 behind him and sawH7200 them, and cursedH7043 them in the nameH8034 of Jehovah. And there cameH3318 forthH3318 twoH8147 she-bears out of the wood, and tare fortyH705 and twoH8147 ladsH3206 of them. 25And he wentH7725 from thence to mount CarmelH3760, and from thence he returnedH7725 to SamariaH8111.
