Amaziah Reigns over Judah
11In the secondH8147 yearH8141 of JoashH3060 sonH1121 of JoahazH3099 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, 2AmaziahH558 the sonH1121 of JoashH3060 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 becameH4427 kingH4427. 2He was twenty-fiveH6242H2568 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he becameH4427 kingH4427, and he reignedH4427 for twenty-nineH6242H8672 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389. And his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was JehoaddinH3086 of JerusalemH3389. 3He didH6213 whatH3477 wasH3477 rightH3477 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068, yetH7534 not like his fatherH1 DavidH1732; he actedH6213 in accordance with everythingH3605 that his fatherH1 JoashH3060 had doneH6213. 4OnlyH7534 3the highH1116 placesH1116 were not eliminatedH5493; 4the peopleH5971 stillH5750 sacrificedH2076 and burnedH6999 incenseH6999 on the highH1116 placesH1116. 5Now it cameH1961 aboutH1961, asH3512 soonH3512 asH3512 the kingdomH4467 wasH2388 firmlyH2388 in his handH3027, that he 56killedH5221 his servantsH5650 who had 7killedH5221 the kingH4428, his fatherH1. 6But he did not putH4191 the sonsH1121 of 8the murderersH5221 toH4191 deathH4191, in 9obedience to what is writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the LawH8451 of MosesH4872, as the LordH3068 commandedH6680, sayingH559, “10The fathersH1 shall not be putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191 for the sonsH1121, norH3808 the sonsH1121 be putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191 for the fathersH1; but 11eachH376 shall be putH4191 toH4191 deathH4191 for his own sinH2399.”
7He 12killedH5221 tenH6235 thousandH505 of the EdomitesH112 in 13the ValleyH1516 of SaltH4417, and tookH8610 14SelaH5554 by warH4421, and namedH7121H8034 it 15JoktheelH3371, as it is to thisH2088 dayH3117.
816ThenH227 AmaziahH558 sentH7971 messengersH4397 to 17JehoashH3060, the sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059 sonH1121 of JehuH3058, kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, “18ComeH1980, let’s faceH7200H6440 each other in combat.” 9But JehoashH3060 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 sentH7971 messengers to AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, “19The thornH2336 bushH2336 that was in LebanonH3844 sentH7971 word to the cedarH730 that was in LebanonH3844, sayingH559, ‘GiveH5414 your daughterH1323 to my sonH1121 20in marriageH802.’ But a wildH7704 animalH2421 that was in LebanonH3844 passedH5674 byH5674 and trampledH7429 the thornH2336 bushH2336. 1021You have indeedH5221 22defeatedH5221 EdomH112, and 23your heartH3820 24is elatedH5375. EnjoyH3513 the gloryH3513 and stayH3427 homeH1004; for whyH4100 should you getH1624 involvedH1624 inH1624 troubleH7463 so that you would fallH5307, you and JudahH3063 with you?”
11But AmaziahH558 would not listenH8085. So JehoashH3060 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 wentH5927 upH5927; and they facedH7200H6440 each other, he and AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, at 25Beth-shemeshH1053, whichH834 belongs to JudahH3063. 12And JudahH3063 was defeatedH5062 by IsraelH3478, and 26they fledH5127, everyH376 manH376 to his tentH168. 13Then JehoashH3060 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 capturedH8610 AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, the sonH1121 of JehoashH3060 the sonH1121 of AhaziahH274, at Beth-shemeshH1053, and cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 and toreH6555 downH6555 the wallH2346 of JerusalemH3389 from 27the GateH8179 of EphraimH669 to 28the CornerH6438 GateH8179, 29fourH702 hundredH3967 cubitsH520. 14And 30he tookH3947 allH3605 the goldH2091 and silverH3701 and allH3605 the utensilsH3627 which were foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068, and in the treasuriesH214 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004, the hostagesH1121H8594 as well, and returnedH7725 to SamariaH8111.
Jeroboam II Succeeds Jehoash (Joash) in Israel
1531Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JehoashH3060 that he didH6213, and his mightH1369 and howH834 he foughtH3898 with AmaziahH558 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 16So JehoashH3060 32layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1 and was buriedH6912 in SamariaH8111 with the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478; and his sonH1121 JeroboamH3379 becameH4427 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478.
Azariah (Uzziah) Succeeds Amaziah in Judah
1733AmaziahH558 the sonH1121 of JoashH3060 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 livedH2421 for fifteenH2568H6240 yearsH8141 afterH310 the deathH4194 of JehoashH3060 sonH1121 of JehoahazH3059 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478. 18Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of AmaziahH558, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of JudahH3063? 19They formedH7194 a conspiracyH7195 againstH5921 him in JerusalemH3389, and he fledH5127 to 34LachishH3923; but they sentH7971 men to LachishH3923 afterH310 him and they killedH4191 him thereH8033. 20Then they carriedH5375 him on horsesH5483, and he was buriedH6912 in JerusalemH3389 with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. 21And allH3605 the peopleH5971 of JudahH3063 tookH3947 35AzariahH5838, whoH1931 was sixteenH8337H6240 yearsH8141 oldH1121, and madeH4427 him kingH4427 inH8478 placeH8478 ofH8478 his fatherH1 AmaziahH558. 2236He builtH1129 ElathH365 and restoredH7725 it to JudahH3063 afterH310 the kingH4428 37layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1.
23In the fifteenthH2568H6240 yearH8141 of AmaziahH558 the sonH1121 of JoashH3060 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of JoashH3060 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 becameH4427 kingH4427 in SamariaH8111, and reigned for forty-oneH705H259 yearsH8141. 24He didH6213 evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068; he did not abandonH5493H4480 allH3605 the sinsH2403 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, into whichH834 he misledH2398 IsraelH3478. 2538He restoredH7725 the borderH1366 of IsraelH3478 from 39the entranceH935 of HamathH2574 as farH5704 as 40the SeaH3220 of the ArabahH6160, in accordance with the wordH1697 of the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, whichH834 He spokeH1696 41throughH3027 His servantH5650 42JonahH3124 the sonH1121 of AmittaiH573, the prophetH5030, whoH834 was from 43Gath-hepherH1662. 26For the 44LordH3068 sawH7200 the miseryH6040 of IsraelH3478, which was veryH3966 bitterH4751; for 45there was neitherH657 46bondH6113 norH657 freeH5800 spared, norH369 wasH369 thereH369 any helperH5826 for IsraelH3478. 27Yet the 47LordH3068 did not sayH1696 that He would wipeH4229 outH4229 the nameH8034 of IsraelH3478 from underH8478 heavenH8064, but He savedH3467 them by the handH3027 of JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of JoashH3060.
Zechariah Reigns over Israel
28Now as for the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of JeroboamH3379 and allH3605 that he didH6213 and his mightH1369, howH834 he foughtH3898 and howH834 he recoveredH7725 for IsraelH3478 48DamascusH1834 and 49HamathH2574, which had belonged to JudahH3063, are they not writtenH3789 in the BookH5612 of the ChroniclesH1697H3117 of the KingsH4428 of IsraelH3478? 29And JeroboamH3379 50layH7901 downH7901 with his fathersH1, with the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478, and his sonH1121 ZechariahH2148 becameH4427 kingH4427 inH8478 his placeH8478.
