Genesis 35:5-22
As they set outH5265, a terrorH2847 from GodH430 fellH1961 overH5921 the surroundingH5439 citiesH5892, so that they did notH3808 pursueH7291H310 Jacob’sH3290 sonsH1121. 6So JacobH3290 and everyoneH3605H5971 with himH5973 arrivedH935 in LuzH3870 (that isH1931H1008, BethelH1008H1931) in the landH776 of CanaanH3667. 7ThereH8033 Jacob builtH1129 an altarH4196, and he calledH7121 that placeH4725 El-bethelH416,1 becauseH3588 it was thereH8033 that GodH430 had revealed HimselfH1540 toH413 Jacob as he fledH1272 fromH6440 his brotherH251.
Now DeborahH1683, Rebekah’sH7259 nurseH3243, diedH4191 and was buriedH6912 underH8478 the oakH4372 belowH8478 BethelH1008. So Jacob namedH7121 it Allon-bacuthH439.3
After Jacob had returnedH935 fromH6307 Paddan-aramH758,4 GodH430 appearedH7200 toH413 him againH5750 and blessedH1288 himH853. 10And GodH430 saidH559 to him, “Though your nameH8034 is JacobH3290,5 you will noH3808 longerH5750 be calledH7121H8034 JacobH3290. InsteadH3588H518, your nameH8034 will beH1961 IsraelH3478.6” So God namedH7121 himH8034 IsraelH3478.
And GodH430 toldH559 him, “IH589 am GodH410 AlmightyH7706.7 Be fruitfulH6509 and multiplyH7235. A nationH1471—even a companyH6951 of nationsH1471—shall comeH1961 from youH4480, and kingsH4428 shall descendH3318 from youH2504. 12The landH776 thatH834 I gaveH5414 to AbrahamH85 and IsaacH3327 I will giveH5414 to you, and I will giveH5414 this landH776 to your descendantsH2233 after youH310.”
Then GodH430 went upH5927 fromH5921 the placeH4725 whereH834 He had spokenH1696 with himH854.
So JacobH3290 set upH5324 a pillarH4676 in the placeH4725 whereH834 God had spokenH1696 with himH854—a stoneH68 markerH4678—and he poured outH5258 a drink offeringH5262 on itH5921 and anointed itH3332H5921 with oilH8081. 15JacobH3290 calledH7121H8034 the placeH4725 whereH834 GodH430 had spokenH1696 with himH854 BethelH8033H1008.8
Later, they set outH5265 fromH1008 BethelH1008, and while they wereH1961 stillH5750 some distanceH3530H776H935 from EphrathH672, RachelH7354 began to give birthH3205, and her laborH3205 was difficultH7185. 17DuringH1961 her severeH7185 laborH3205, the midwifeH3205 saidH559 to her, “Do notH408 be afraidH3372, forH3588 you are havingH2088 anotherH1571 sonH1121.”
AndH1961 with her lastH3318 breathH5315—forH3588 she was dyingH4191—she named himH7121H8034 Ben-oniH1126.9 But his fatherH1 calledH7121 him BenjaminH1144.10
So RachelH7354 diedH4191 and was buriedH6912 on the wayH1870 to EphrathH672 (that isH1931H1035, BethlehemH1035). 20JacobH3290 set upH5324 a pillarH4676 on herH5921 graveH6900; itH1931 marksH4678 Rachel’sH7354 tombH6900 toH5704 this dayH3117.
Israel againH3478 set outH5265 and pitchedH5186 his tentH168 beyondH1973 the Tower of EderH4029. 22WhileH1961 IsraelH3478 was livingH7931 in thatH1931 regionH776, ReubenH7205 went inH1980 and slept withH7901 his father’sH1 concubineH6370 BilhahH1090, and IsraelH3478H1961 heard about itH8085.
