6So Jacobיַעֲקֹ֜בya.'a.KoH3290and everyoneוְכָל־ הָעָ֥םve.khol ha.'AmH3605H5971אֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834with himעִמּֽוֹ׃i.MoH5973arrivedוַיָּבֹ֨אvai.ya.Vo'H935in Luzל֗וּזָהLu.zahH3870אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834(that isהִ֖וא בֵּֽית־hi' beit-H1931H1008,Bethelאֵ֑ל ה֖וּא'El hu'H1008H1931)in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Canaanכְּנַ֔עַןke.Na.'anH3667.
7Thereשָׁם֙shamH8033Jacob builtוַיִּ֤בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֔חַmiz.Be.achH4196,and he calledוַיִּקְרָא֙vai.yik.Ra'H7121that placeלַמָּק֔וֹםla.ma.KomH4725El-bethelH416,becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588it was thereשָׁ֗םShamH8033that Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430had revealed Himselfנִגְל֤וּnig.LuH1540toאֵלָיו֙'e.LavH413Jacobas he fledבְּבָרְח֖וֹbe.va.re.ChoH1272fromמִפְּנֵ֥יmi.pe.NeiH6440his brotherאָחִֽיו׃'a.ChivH251.
8Now Deborahדְּבֹרָה֙de.vo.RahH1683,Rebekah’sרִבְקָ֔הriv.KahH7259nurseמֵינֶ֣קֶתmei.Ne.ketH3243,diedוַתָּ֤מָתva.Ta.motH4191and was buriedוַתִּקָּבֵ֛רva.ti.ka.VerH6912underמִתַּ֥חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478the oakהָֽאַלּ֑וֹןha.'a.LonH437belowתַּ֣חַתTa.chatH8478BethelH1008.So Jacob namedוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121itשְׁמ֖וֹshe.MoH8034Allon-bacuthH439.
10And Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430saidוַיֹּֽאמֶר־vai.yo.mer-H559to him, “Thoughyour nameשִׁמְךָ֣shim.KhaH8034is Jacobיַעֲקֹ֑בya.'a.KoH3290,you will noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808longerע֜וֹדodH5750be calledיִקָּרֵא֩ שִׁמְךָ֙yi.ka.Re' shim.KhaH7121H8034Jacobיַעֲקֹ֗בya.'a.KoH3290.Insteadכִּ֤י אִם־ki 'im-H3588H518,your nameשְׁמֶ֔ךָshe.Me.khaH8034will beיִהְיֶ֣הyih.YehH1961Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”So God namedוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121אֶת־'et-H853himשְׁמ֖וֹshe.MoH8034Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.
11And Godאֱלֹהִ֜ים'E.lo.HimH430toldוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559him, “Iאֲנִ֨י'a.NiH589am Godאֵ֤ל'elH410Almightyשַׁדַּי֙sha.DaiH7706.Be fruitfulפְּרֵ֣הpe.RehH6509and multiplyוּרְבֵ֔הu.re.VehH7235.A nationגּ֛וֹיGoyH1471—even a companyוּקְהַ֥לu.ke.HalH6951of nationsגּוֹיִ֖םgo.YimH1471—shall comeיִהְיֶ֣הyih.YehH1961from youמִמֶּ֑ךָּmi.Me.kaH4480,and kingsוּמְלָכִ֖יםu.me.la.KhimH4428shall descendיֵצֵֽאוּ׃ye.Tze.'uH3318from youמֵחֲלָצֶ֥יךָme.cha.la.Tzei.khaH2504.
12וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853The landהָאָ֗רֶץha.'A.retzH776thatאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I gaveנָתַ֛תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414to Abrahamלְאַבְרָהָ֥םle.'av.ra.HamH85and Isaacוּלְיִצְחָ֖קu.le.yitz.ChakH3327I will giveאֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה'et.te.Ne.nahH5414to you,and I will giveאֶתֵּ֥ן'e.TenH5414אֶת־'et-H853this landהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776to your descendantsוּֽלְזַרְעֲךָ֥u.le.zar.'a.KhaH2233after youאַחֲרֶ֖יךָ'a.cha.Rei.khaH310.”
14So Jacobיַעֲקֹ֜בya.'a.KoH3290set upוַיַּצֵּ֨בvai.ya.TzevH5324a pillarמַצֵּבָ֗הma.tze.VahH4676in the placeבַּמָּק֛וֹםba.ma.KomH4725whereאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Godhad spokenדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696with himאִתּ֖וֹ'i.ToH854—a stoneאָ֑בֶן'A.venH68markerמַצֶּ֣בֶתma.Tze.vetH4678—and he poured outוַיַּסֵּ֤ךְvai.ya.SekhH5258a drink offeringנֶ֔סֶךְNe.sekhH5262on itעָלֶ֙יהָ֙'a.Lei.haH5921and anointed itוַיִּצֹ֥ק עָלֶ֖יהָvai.yi.Tzok 'a.Lei.haH3332H5921with oilשָֽׁמֶן׃Sha.menH8081.
16Later, they set outוַיִּסְעוּ֙vai.yis.'UH5265fromמִבֵּ֣יתmi.BeitH1008Bethelאֵ֔ל'ElH1008,and while they wereוַֽיְהִי־vay.hi-H1961stillע֥וֹדodH5750some distanceכִּבְרַת־ הָאָ֖רֶץ לָב֣וֹאkiv.rat- ha.'A.retz la.Vo'H3530H776H935from Ephrathאֶפְרָ֑תָה'ef.Ra.tahH672,Rachelרָחֵ֖לra.ChelH7354began to give birthוַתֵּ֥לֶדva.Te.ledH3205,and her laborבְּלִדְתָּֽהּ׃be.lid.TahH3205was difficultוַתְּקַ֥שׁva.te.KashH7185.
17Duringוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961her severeבְהַקְשֹׁתָ֖הּve.hak.sho.TahH7185laborבְּלִדְתָּ֑הּbe.lid.TahH3205,the midwifeהַמְיַלֶּ֙דֶת֙ham.ya.Le.detH3205saidוַתֹּ֨אמֶרva.To.merH559to her, “Do notאַל־'al-H408be afraidתִּ֣ירְאִ֔יtir.'IH3372,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588youare havingזֶ֥הzehH2088anotherגַם־gam-H1571sonבֵּֽן׃BenH1121.”
18Andוַיְהִ֞יvay.HiH1961with her lastבְּצֵ֤אתbe.TzetH3318breathנַפְשָׁהּ֙naf.ShahH5315—forכִּ֣יkiH3588she was dyingמֵ֔תָהMe.tahH4191—she named himוַתִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹva.tik.Ra' she.MoH7121H8034Ben-oniH1126.But his fatherוְאָבִ֖יוve.'a.VivH1calledקָֽרָא־ka.ra'-H7121himBenjaminבִנְיָמִֽין׃vin.ya.MinH1144.
22Whileוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478was livingבִּשְׁכֹּ֤ןbish.KonH7931in thatהַהִ֔ואha.Hiv'H1931regionבָּאָ֣רֶץba.'A.retzH776,Reubenרְאוּבֵ֔ןre.'u.VenH7205went inוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and slept withוַיִּשְׁכַּ֕ב֙vai.yish.KavH7901אֶת־'et-H853his father’sאָבִ֑֔יו'a.VivH1concubineפִּילֶ֣גֶשׁpi.Le.geshH6370Bilhahבִּלְהָ֖ה֙bil.HahH1090,and Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽ֑ל פ וַיִּֽהְי֥וּYis.ra.'El vai.yih.YuH3478H1961heard about itוַיִּשְׁמַ֖עvai.yish.Ma'H8085.Jacob hadיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290twelveשְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃she.Neim 'a.SarH8147H6240sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121:
