A Prophecy against Tyre
(Isaiah 23:1–18)
1In the eleventhH6249H6240 month of the twelfth yearH8141,1 on the firstH259 day of the monthH2320H1961, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 2“SonH1121 of manH120, becauseH3282 TyreH6865 has saidH559 ofH5921 JerusalemH3389, ‘AhaH1889! The gateH1817 to the nationsH5971 is brokenH7665; it has swung openH5437 to meH413; now that she lies in ruinsH2717 I will be filledH4390,’ 3thereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: ‘BeholdH2005, O TyreH6865, I am against youH5921, and I will raise upH5927 manyH7227 nationsH1471 against youH5921, as the seaH3220 brings upH5927 its wavesH1530. 4They will destroyH7843 the wallsH2346 of TyreH6865 and demolishH2040 her towersH4026. I will scrapeH5500 the soilH6083 from herH4480 and makeH5414 herH853 a bareH6706 rockH5553. 5She will becomeH1961 a placeH8432 to spreadH4894 netsH2764 in the seaH3220, forH3588 IH589 have spokenH1696, declaresH5002 the LordH136 GODH3069. She will becomeH1961 plunderH957 for the nationsH1471, 6and the villagesH1323 on her mainlandH7704 will be slainH2026 by the swordH2719. Then they will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.’
7ForH3588 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: ‘BeholdH2005, I will bringH935 againstH413 TyreH6865 from the northH6828 NebuchadnezzarH50192 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, kingH4428 of kingsH4428, with horsesH5483 and chariotsH7393, with cavalryH6571 and a greatH7227 companyH6951 of troopsH5971. 8He will slaughterH2026 the villagesH1323 of your mainlandH7704 with the swordH2719; he will set upH5414 siege worksH1785 against youH5921, buildH8210 a ramp to your wallsH5550H5921, and raiseH6965 his shieldsH6793 against youH5921. 9He will directH5414 the blowsH4239 of his battering ramsH6904 against your wallsH2346 and tear downH5422 your towersH4026 with his axesH2719. 10His multitudeH8229 of horsesH5483 will cover youH3680 in their dustH80.
When he entersH935 your gatesH8179 as an army enteringH3996 a breachedH1234 cityH5892, your wallsH2346 will shakeH7493 from the noiseH6963 of cavalryH6571, wagonsH1534, and chariotsH7393. 11The hoovesH6541 of his horsesH5483 will trampleH7429 allH3605 your streetsH2351. He will slaughterH2026 your peopleH5971 with the swordH2719, and your mightyH5797 pillarsH4676 will fallH3381 to the groundH776. 12They will plunderH7997 your wealthH2428 and pillageH962 your merchandiseH7404. They will demolishH2040 your wallsH2346, tear downH5422 your beautifulH2532 homesH1004, and throwH7760 your stonesH68 and timberH6086 and soilH6083 intoH8432 the waterH4325.
13So I will silenceH7673 the soundH1995 of your songsH7892, and the musicH6963 of your lyresH3658 will noH3808 longerH5750 be heardH8085. 14I will make youH5414 a bareH6706 rockH5553, and you will becomeH1961 a place to spreadH4894 the fishing netsH2764. You will neverH3808H5750 be rebuiltH1129, forH3588 IH589, the LORDH3069, have spokenH1696, declaresH5002 the LordH136 GODH3068.’
15This is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559 to TyreH6865: ‘Will notH3808 the coastlandsH339 quakeH7493 at the soundH6963 of your downfallH4658, when the woundedH2491H2026 groanH602 at the slaughterH2027 in your midstH8432?
16AllH3605 the princesH5387 of the seaH3220 will descendH3381 fromH5921 their thronesH3678, removeH5493 their robesH4598, and strip offH6584 their embroideredH7553 garmentsH899. ClothedH3847 with terrorH2731, they will sitH3427 onH5921 the groundH776, tremblingH2729 every momentH7281, appalledH8074 over youH5921. 17Then they will lamentH5375H7015 for youH5921, sayingH559,
19ForH3588 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: ‘When I makeH5414 youH853 a desolateH2717 cityH5892 like other desertedH3808H3427 citiesH5892, and when I raise upH5927 the deepH8415 against youH5921 so that the mightyH7227 watersH4325 cover youH3680, 20then I will bring you downH3381 withH854 those who descendH3381 to the PitH953, toH413 the peopleH5971 of antiquityH5769. I will make you dwellH3427 in the earthH776 belowH8482 like the ancientH5769 ruinsH2723, withH854 those who descendH3381 to the PitH953, so thatH4616 you will noH3808 longer be inhabitedH3427 or setH5414 in splendorH66434 in the landH776 of the livingH2416. 21I will makeH5414 you an object of horrorH1091, and you will be no moreH369. You will be soughtH1245, but will neverH3808H5769 be foundH4672,’ declaresH5002 the LordH136 GODH3069.”
