The Parable of the Cooking Pot
In the ninthH8671 yearH8141, on the tenthH6218 dayH2320 of the tenthH6224 monthH2320, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 2“SonH1121 of manH120, write downH3789 today’s dateH3117, forH853 on thisH2088 veryH6106 dayH3117 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 has laid siegeH5564 toH413 JerusalemH3389. 3Now speak a parableH4911H4912 toH413 this rebelliousH4805 houseH1004 and tellH559 themH413 that this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559:
ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559:
YesH3651, this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559:
Ezekiel’s Wife Dies
Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 16“SonH1121 of manH120, beholdH2005, I am about to take awayH3947 the desireH4261 of your eyesH5869H4480 with a fatal blowH4046. But you must notH3808 mournH5594H3808 or weepH1058H3808 or let your tearsH1832 flowH935. 17GroanH602 quietlyH1826; do notH3808 mournH6213H60 for the deadH4191. PutH2280 onH5921 your turbanH6287 and strapH7760 your sandalsH5275 on your feetH7272; do notH3808 coverH5844H5921 your lipsH8222 or eatH398 the breadH3899 of mournersH582H3808.”
So I spokeH1696 toH413 the peopleH5971 in the morningH1242, and in the eveningH6153 my wifeH802 diedH4191. And the next morningH1242 I didH6213 asH834 I had been commandedH6680.
Then the peopleH5971 asked meH559H413, “Won’tH3808 you tellH5046 us whatH4100 theseH428H3588 things youH859 are doingH6213 mean to us?”
So I answeredH559 themH413, “The wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559: 21TellH559 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 that this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069H2005 saysH559: ‘I am about to desecrateH2490 My sanctuaryH4720, the prideH1347 of your powerH5797, the desireH4261 of your eyesH5869, and the delightH4263 of your soulH5315. And the sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323 you left behindH5800 will fallH5307 by the swordH2719.’
Then you will doH6213 asH834 I have doneH6213H5921: You will notH3808 coverH5844 your lipsH8222 or eatH398 the breadH3899 of mournersH582H3808. 23Your turbansH6287 will remain onH5921 your headsH7218 and your sandalsH5275 on your feetH7272. You will notH3808 mournH5594 orH3808 weepH1058, but you will waste awayH4743 because of your sinsH5771, and you will groanH5098 amongH413H376 yourselvesH251.
‘Thus EzekielH3168 will beH1961 a signH4159 for you; you will doH6213 everythingH3605 thatH834 he has doneH6213. When this happensH935, you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LordH136 GODH3069.’
And youH859, sonH1121 of manH120H3808, know that on the dayH3117 I takeH3947 away their strongholdH4581, their prideH8597 and joyH4885—the desireH4261 of their eyesH5869 which upliftedH4853 their soulsH5315—and their sonsH1121 and daughters as wellH1323, 26on thatH1931 dayH3117 a fugitiveH6412 will comeH935 and tell you the newsH413H2045H241. 27On thatH1931 dayH3117 your mouthH6310H854 will be openedH6605 to him who has escapedH6412; you will speakH1696 and noH3808 longerH5750 be muteH481. So you will beH1961 a signH4159 to them, and they will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.”
