A Lament for Egypt
1Again the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 2“SonH1121 of manH120, prophesyH5012 and declareH559 that this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559:
9On thatH1931 dayH3117 messengersH4397 will go outH3318 from MeH6440 in shipsH6716 to frightenH2729 CushH3568 out of complacencyH983. AnguishH2479 will comeH1961 upon them on the dayH3117 of Egypt’sH4714 doom.5 ForH3588 it is indeedH2009 comingH935.
Pharaoh’s Power Broken
In the eleventhH259H6240 yearH8141, on the seventhH7651 dayH2320 of the first monthH7223, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 21“SonH1121 of manH120, I have brokenH7665 the armH2220 of PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714. SeeH2009, it has notH3808 been bound upH2280 for healingH7499, or splintedH7760H2848H2280 for strengthH2388 to holdH8610 the swordH2719.
22ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: BeholdH2005, I am againstH413 PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714. I will breakH7665 his armsH2220, both the strong oneH2389 and the one already brokenH7665, and will make the swordH2719 fallH5307 from his handH3027. 23I will disperseH6327 the EgyptiansH4714 among the nationsH1471 and scatter themH2219 throughout the landsH776.
24I will strengthenH2388 the armsH2220 of Babylon’sH894 kingH4428 and placeH5414 My swordH2719 in his handH3027, but I will breakH7665 the armsH2220 of PharaohH6547, who will groanH5008 before himH6440 likeH5009 a mortally woundedH2491 man. 25I will strengthenH2388 the armsH2220 of Babylon’sH894 kingH4428, but Pharaoh’sH6547 armsH2220 will fall limpH5307.
Then they will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068, when I placeH5414 My swordH2719 in the handH3027 of Babylon’sH894 kingH4428, and he wieldsH5186 it againstH413 the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 26I will disperseH6327 the EgyptiansH4714 among the nationsH1471 and scatterH2219 themH853 throughout the landsH776. Then they will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.”
