Reproof of False Prophets
(Micah 2:6–11)
1Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 2“SonH1121 of manH120, prophesyH5012 againstH413 the prophetsH5030 of IsraelH3478 who are now prophesyingH5012. TellH559 those who prophesyH5030 out of their own imaginationH3820: HearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068! 3This is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: WoeH1945 toH5921 the foolishH5036 prophetsH5030 whoH834 followH1980H310 their own spiritH7307 yet have seenH7200 nothingH1115. 4Your prophetsH5030, O IsraelH3478, areH1961 like foxesH7776 among the ruinsH2723. 5You did notH3808 go upH5927 to the gapsH6556 or restoreH1443 the wallH1447 aroundH5921 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 so that it would standH5975 in the battleH4421 on the DayH3117 of the LORDH3068.
6They seeH2372 false visionsH7723 and speak lyingH3577 divinationsH7081. They claimH559, ‘Thus declaresH5002 the LORDH3068,’ when the LORDH3068 did notH3808 send themH7971; yet they waitH3176 for the fulfillmentH6965 of their messageH1697.
7Haven’t youH3808 seenH2372 a falseH7723 visionH4236 and spokenH559 a lyingH3577 divinationH4738 when you proclaimH559, ‘Thus declaresH5002 the LORDH3068,’ even though IH589 have notH3808 spokenH1696?
8ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: BecauseH3282 you have utteredH1696 vain wordsH7723 and seenH2372 false visionsH3577H3651H2005, I am against youH413, declaresH5002 the LordH136 GODH3069. 9My handH3027 will beH1961 againstH413 the prophetsH5030 who seeH2372 false visionsH7723 and speak lyingH3577 divinationsH7080. They will notH3808 belongH1961 to the councilH5475 of My peopleH5971 or be recordedH3789 in the registerH3791 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, nor will theyH3808 enterH413H935 the landH127 of IsraelH3478H3808. Then you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LordH136 GODH3069.
10BecauseH3282 they have led My peopleH5971 astrayH2937, sayingH559, ‘PeaceH7965,’ when there is noH369 peaceH7965H2009, and whitewashingH2902 any flimsy wallH2434 that is builtH1129, 11tellH559H413 those whitewashingH2902H8602 the wall that it will fallH5307. RainH1653 will comeH1961 in torrentsH7857H859, I will send hailstonesH68H417 plunging downH5307, and a windstormH7307H5591 will burst forthH1234. 12SurelyH2009 when the wallH7023 has fallenH5307, you will notH3808 be askedH559H413, ‘WhereH346 is the whitewashH2915 with whichH834 you covered itH2902?’
13ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: In My wrathH2534 I will releaseH1234 a windstormH7307H5591, and in My angerH639 torrentsH7857 of rainH1653 and hailH68 will fallH1961H417 with destructiveH3617 furyH2534. 14I will tear downH2040 the wallH7023 you whitewashedH2902H8602 and levelH5060 it toH413 the groundH776, so that its foundationH3247 is exposedH1540. The city will fallH5307, and you will be destroyedH3615 within itH8432. Then you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.
15And after I have ventedH3615 My wrathH2534 against the wallH7023 and against those who whitewashed itH2902, I will sayH559 to you: ‘The wallH7023 is goneH369, andH369 so are those who whitewashedH2902 itH853— 16those prophetsH5030 of IsraelH3478 who prophesiedH5012 toH413 JerusalemH3389 and sawH2372 a visionH2377 of peaceH7965 for her when there was noH369 peaceH7965, declaresH5002 the LordH136 GODH3069.’
Reproof of False Prophetesses
17NowH859, O sonH1121 of manH120, setH7760 your faceH6440 againstH413 the daughtersH1323 of your peopleH5971 who prophesyH5012 out of their own imaginationH3820. ProphesyH5012 against themH5921 18and tell them thatH559 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: WoeH1945 to the women who sewH8609 magic charmsH3704 onH5921 their wristsH3605H679H3027 and makeH6213 veilsH4555 forH5921 the headsH7218 of people of everyH3605 heightH6967, in order to ensnareH6679 their soulsH5315. Will you ensnareH6679 the soulsH5315 of My peopleH5971H5315 but preserve your ownH2421? 19You have profanedH2490 MeH853 amongH413 My peopleH5971 for handfulsH8168 of barleyH8184 and scrapsH6595 of breadH3899. By lyingH3576 to My peopleH5971 who would listenH8085H3577, you have killedH4191 thoseH5315 whoH834 should notH3808 have diedH4191 and sparedH2421 thoseH5315 whoH834 should notH3808 have livedH2421.
20ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: SeeH2005, I am againstH413 the magic charmsH3704 with whichH834 youH859 ensnareH6679H8033 soulsH5315 like birdsH6524, and I will tearH7167 themH853 fromH5921 your armsH2220. So I will freeH7971 the soulsH5315 youH859 have ensnaredH6679 like birdsH6524. 21I will also tear offH7167 your veilsH4555 and deliverH5337 My peopleH5971 from your handsH3027, so that they will noH3808 longerH5750 beH1961 preyH4686 in your handsH3027. Then you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.
22BecauseH3282 you have disheartenedH3512H3820 the righteousH6662 with your liesH8267, even though IH589 have caused them no griefH3808H3510, and because you have encouragedH2388H3027 the wickedH7451 notH1115 to turnH7725 from their evilH7563 waysH1870 to save their livesH2421, 23thereforeH3651 you will noH3808 longerH5750 seeH2372 false visionsH7723 or practiceH7080 divinationH7081H3808. I will deliverH5337 My peopleH5971 from your handsH3027. Then you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.”
