Evil in High Places

1Then the SpiritH7307 lifted me upH5375 and broughtH935 meH853 toH413 the gateH8179 of the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 that facesH6437 eastH6921. And thereH2009 at the entranceH6607 of the gateH8179 were twenty-fiveH6242H2568 menH376. AmongH8432 themH853 I sawH7200 JaazaniahH2970 sonH1121 of AzzurH5809 and PelatiahH6410 sonH1121 of BenaiahH1141, who were leadersH8269 of the peopleH5971. 2And the LORD saidH559 to meH413, “SonH1121 of manH120, theseH428 are the menH582 who plotH2803 evilH205 and giveH3289 wickedH7451 counselH6098 in thisH2063 cityH5892. 3They are sayingH559, ‘Is notH3808 the time nearH7138 to buildH1129 housesH1004? The cityH1931 is the cooking potH5518,1 and weH587 are the meatH1320.’ 4ThereforeH3651 prophesyH5012 against themH5921; prophesyH5012, O sonH1121 of manH120!”

5And the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 fellH5307 upon meH5921 and toldH559 meH413 to declareH559 that this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559: “That is whatH3651 you are thinkingH559, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; and IH589 knowH3045 the thoughtsH4609 that arise in your mindsH7307. 6You have multipliedH7235 those you killedH2491 in thisH2063 cityH5892 and filledH4390 its streetsH2351 with the deadH2491.

7ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: The slainH2491 you have laidH7760 withinH8432 this city are the meatH1320, and the cityH1931 is the potH5518; but I will remove youH3318 from itH8432. 8You fearH3372 the swordH2719, so I will bringH935 the swordH2719 against youH5921, declaresH5002 the LordH136 GODH3069. 9I will bring youH3318 out ofH8432 the city and deliverH5414 youH853 into the handsH3027 of foreignersH2114, and I will executeH6213 judgmentsH8201 against you. 10You will fallH5307 by the swordH2719, and I will judgeH8199 youH853 evenH5921 to the bordersH1366 of IsraelH3478. Then you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.

11The cityH1931 will notH3808 beH1961 a potH5518 for you, nor will youH859 beH1961 the meatH1320 within itH8432. I will judgeH8199 youH853 even toH413 the bordersH1366 of IsraelH3478. 12Then you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068. ForH834 you have neitherH3808 followedH1980 My statutesH2706 norH3808 practicedH6213 My ordinancesH4941, but you have conformedH6213 to the ordinancesH4941 of the nationsH1471 around youH5439.”

A Promise of Restoration

(Jeremiah 32:36–44)

13Now as I wasH1961 prophesyingH5012, PelatiahH6410 sonH1121 of BenaiahH1141 diedH4191. Then I fellH5307 facedownH5921H6440 and cried outH2199 in a loudH1419H559 voiceH6963, “OhH162, LordH136 GODH3069, will YouH859 bringH6213H854 the remnantH7611 of IsraelH3478 to a complete endH3617?”

14Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 15“SonH1121 of manH120, your brothersH251—your relativesH251, your fellow exilesH582H1353, and the wholeH3605 houseH1004 of IsraelH3478—are those of whomH834 the peopleH3427 of JerusalemH3389 have saidH559, ‘They are far awayH7368 fromH5921 the LORDH3068; thisH1931 landH776 has been givenH5414 to us as a possessionH4181.’

16ThereforeH3651 declareH559 that this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: ‘AlthoughH3588 I sent them far awayH7368 among the nationsH1471H3588 and scattered themH6327 among the countriesH776, yet for a little whileH4592 I have beenH1961 a sanctuaryH4720 for them in the countriesH776 to whichH834 they have goneH935H8033.’

17ThereforeH3651 declareH559 that this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: ‘I will gatherH6908 you fromH4480 the peoplesH5971 and assembleH622 you fromH4480 the countriesH776 to whichH834 you have been scatteredH6327, and I will give backH5414 to you the landH127 of IsraelH3478.’

18When they returnH935 to itH8033, they will removeH5493 allH3605 its detestable thingsH8251 andH853 allH3605 its abominationsH8441. 19And I will giveH5414 them singlenessH259 of heartH3820 and putH5414 a newH2319 spiritH7307 within themH7130; I will removeH5493 their heartH3820 of stoneH68 and giveH5414 them a heartH3820 of fleshH1320, 20so thatH4616 they may followH1980 My statutesH2708, keepH8104 My ordinancesH4941, and practice themH6213. Then they will beH1961 My peopleH5971, and IH589 will beH1961 their GodH430.

21But as forH413 those whose heartsH3820 pursueH1980 detestable thingsH8251 and abominationsH8441H3820, I will bring their conductH1870 downH5414 upon their own headsH7218, declaresH5002 the LordH136 GODH3069.”

God’s Glory Leaves Jerusalem

22Then the cherubimH3742, with the wheelsH212 beside themH5980, spreadH5375 their wingsH3671, and the gloryH3519 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 was aboveH5921 themH4605. 23And the gloryH3519 of the LORDH3068 rose upH5927 fromH5921 withinH8432 the cityH5892 and stoodH5975 overH5921 the mountainH2022 eastH6924 of the cityH5892.

24And the SpiritH7307 lifted me upH5375 and carried meH935 backH413 to ChaldeaH3778,2 to the exilesH1473 in the visionH4758 given by the SpiritH7307 of GodH430. After the visionH4758 had gone upH5927 from meH5921, 25I toldH1696H413 the exilesH1473 everythingH3605H1697 the LORDH3068 had shown meH7200.
