A Lament for the Princes of Israel

1“As for youH859, take upH5375 a lamentH7015 forH413 the princesH5387 of IsraelH3478 2and sayH559:

‘WhatH4100 was your motherH517?A lionessH3833 amongH996 the lionsH738!She lay downH7257 amongH8432 the young lionsH3715;she rearedH7235 her cubsH1482.3She brought upH5927 oneH259 of her cubsH1482,and he becameH1961 a young lionH3715.After learningH3925 to tearH2963 his preyH2964,he devouredH398 menH120.4When the nationsH1471 heardH8085 of himH413,he was trappedH8610 in their pitH7845.With hooksH2397 they led him awayH935toH413 the landH776 of EgyptH4714.
5When she sawH7200 thatH3588 she had waited in vainH3176,that her hopeH8615 was lostH6,she tookH3947 anotherH259 of her cubsH1482and made himH7760 a young lionH3715.6He prowledH1980 amongH8432 the lionsH738,and becameH1961 a young lionH3715.After learningH3925 to tearH2963 his preyH2964,he devouredH398 menH120.7He broke downH3045 their strongholdsH4901and devastatedH2717 their citiesH5892.The landH776 and everything in itH4393shudderedH3456 at the soundH6963 of his roaringH7581.
8Then the nationsH1471 set outH5414 against himH5921from the provincesH4082 on every sideH5439.They spreadH6566 their netH7568 over himH5921;he was trappedH8610 in their pitH7845.9With hooksH2397 they caged himH5414H5474and brought himH935 toH413 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894.They brought himH935 into captivityH4685so thatH4616 his roarH6963 was heardH8085 noH3808 longerH5750onH413 the mountainsH2022 of IsraelH3478.
10Your motherH517 was like a vineH1612 in your vineyardH1818,2plantedH8362 byH5921 the waterH4325;it wasH1961 fruitfulH6509 and full of branchesH6058because of the abundantH7227 watersH4325.11It hadH1961 strongH5797 branchesH4294, fit forH413 a ruler’sH4910 scepterH7626.It toweredH1361 highH6967 aboveH5921H996 the thick branchesH5688,conspicuousH7200 for its heightH1363and for its denseH7230 foliageH1808.
12But it was uprootedH5428 in furyH2534,cast downH7993 to the groundH776,and the eastH6921 windH7307 dried upH3001 its fruitH6529.Its strongH5797 branchesH4294 were stripped offH6561and they witheredH3001;the fireH784 consumed themH398.
13NowH6258 it is plantedH8362 in the wildernessH4057,in a dryH6723 and thirstyH6772 landH776.14FireH784 has gone outH3318 from its main branchH4294H905and devouredH398 its fruitH6529;on it noH3808 strongH5797 branchH4294 remainsH1961fit for a ruler’sH4910 scepterH7626.’

ThisH1931 is a lamentH7015 and shall be usedH1961 as a lamentH7015.”
