Judgment against Idolatry
(Deuteronomy 4:15–31; Deuteronomy 12:29–32)
1And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 2“SonH1121 of manH120, setH7760 your faceH6440 againstH413 the mountainsH2022 of IsraelH3478 and prophesyH5012 against themH413.
3You are to sayH559: ‘O mountainsH2022 of IsraelH3478, hearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LordH136 GODH3069! This is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559 to the mountainsH2022 and hillsH1389, to the ravinesH650 and valleysH1516H2009: IH589 am about to bringH935 a swordH2719 against youH5921, and I will destroyH6 your high placesH1116. 4Your altarsH4196 will be demolishedH8074 and your incense altarsH2553 will be smashedH7665; and I will cast downH5307 your slainH2491 beforeH6440 your idolsH1544. 5I will layH5414 the corpsesH6297 of the IsraelitesH1121H3478 beforeH6440 their idolsH1544 and scatterH2219 your bonesH6106 aroundH5439 your altarsH4196.
6WhereverH3605 you liveH4186, the citiesH5892 will be laid wasteH2717 and the high placesH1116 will be demolishedH3456, so thatH4616 your altarsH4196 will be laid wasteH2717 and desecratedH816, your idolsH1544 smashedH7665 and obliteratedH7673, your incense altarsH2553 cut downH1438, and your worksH4639 blotted outH4229. 7The slainH2491 will fallH5307 among youH8432, and you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.
A Remnant to Be Blessed
8Yet I will leave a remnantH3498, forH1961 some of you will escapeH6412 the swordH2719 when you are scatteredH2219 among the nationsH1471 and throughout the landsH776.
9Then in the nationsH1471 to whichH834 they have been carried captiveH7617, your survivorsH6412 will rememberH2142 MeH853H8033—howH834 I have been grievedH7665 by their adulterousH2181 heartsH3820 thatH834 turned awayH5493 from MeH5921, and byH854 their eyesH5869 that lustedH2181 afterH310 idolsH1544. So they will loatheH6962 themselvesH6440 forH413 the evilH7451 they have doneH6213 and for allH3605 their abominationsH8441. 10And they will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068; I did notH3808 declareH1696 inH413 vainH2600 that I would bringH6213 thisH2063 calamityH7451 upon them.
11This is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559: ClapH5221 your handsH3709, stompH7554 your feetH7272, and cry outH559 “AlasH253!” because ofH413 allH3605 the wickedH7451 abominationsH8441 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, whoH834 will fallH5307 by swordH2719 and famineH7458 and plagueH1698. 12He who is far offH7350 will dieH4191 by the plagueH1698, he who is nearH7138 will fallH5307 by the swordH2719, and he who remainsH7604H5341 will dieH4191 by famineH7458. So I will ventH3615 My furyH2534 upon them.
13Then you will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068, when their slainH2491 lieH1961 amongH8432 their idolsH1544 aroundH5439 their altarsH4196, onH413 everyH3605 highH7311 hillH1389, on allH3605 the mountaintopsH7218H2022, and underH8478 everyH3605 greenH7488H8478 treeH6086 and leafyH5687 oakH424—the placesH4725 whereH834 they offeredH5414H8033 fragrantH5207 incenseH7381 to allH3605 their idolsH1544. 14I will stretch outH5186 My handH3027 against themH5921, and whereverH3605 they liveH4186 I will makeH5414 the landH776 a desolateH8077 wasteH4923, from the wildernessH4057 to DiblahH1689.1 Then they will knowH3045 thatH3588 IH589 am the LORDH3068.’”
