Ezekiel 20

American Standard Version

1And it cameH935 to pass in the seventhH7637 yearH8141, in the fifthH2549monthH2320, the tenthdayof the monthH2320, that certain of the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 cameH935 to inquire of Jehovah, and satH3427 before me. 2And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto me, sayingH559, 3SonH1121 of manH120, speakH1696 unto the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478, and sayH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: Is it to inquire of me that ye are comeH935? As I live, saith the LordH136 Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you. 4Wilt thou judgeH8199 them, sonH1121 of manH120, wilt thou judgeH8199 them? Cause them to knowH3045 the abominationsH8441 of their fathersH1; 5and sayH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith the Lord Jehovah: In the dayH3117 when I choseH977 IsraelH3478, and sware unto the seedH2233 of the houseH1004 of JacobH3290, and madeH3045 myself knownH3045 unto them in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, when I sware unto them, sayingH559, I am Jehovah your GodH430; 6in that dayH3117 I sware unto them, to bringH3318 them forthH3318 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 into a landH776 that I had searched out for them, flowingH2100 with milkH2461 and honeyH1706, which is the glory of all landsH776. 7And I saidH559 unto them, CastH7993 ye awayH7993 every manH376 the abominationsH8251 of his eyesH5869, and defileH2930 not yourselves with the idolsH1544 of EgyptH4714; I am Jehovah your GodH430. 8But they rebelledH4784 against me, and wouldH14 not hearken unto me; they did not every manH376 castH7993 awayH7993 the abominationsH8251 of their eyesH5869, neither did they forsakeH5800 the idolsH1544 of EgyptH4714. Then I saidH559 I wouldH14 pourH8210 out my wrathH2534 upon them, to accomplish my angerH639 against them in the midstH8432 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 9But I wrought for my name’sH8034 sakeH4616, that it should not be profanedH2490 in the sight of the nationsH1471, among which they were, in whose sight I madeH6213 myself knownH3045 unto them, in bringingH3318 them forthH3318 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714.

10So I caused them to goH3318 forthH3318 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and broughtH935 them into the wildernessH4057. 11And I gaveH5414 them my statutesH2708, and showed them mine ordinancesH4941, which if a manH120 do, he shall live in them. 12Moreover alsoH1571 I gaveH5414 them my sabbathsH7676, to beH1961 a signH226 between me and them, that they might knowH3045 that I am Jehovah that sanctifieth them. 13But the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 rebelledH4784 against me in the wildernessH4057: they walkedH1980 not in my statutesH2708, and they rejectedH3988 mine ordinancesH4941, which if a manH120 keep, he shall live in them; and my sabbathsH7676 they greatly profanedH2490. Then I saidH559 I would pourH8210 out my wrathH2534 upon them in the wildernessH4057, to consume them. 14But I wrought for my name’sH8034 sakeH4616, that it should not be profanedH2490 in the sight of the nationsH1471, in whose sight I broughtH3318 them out. 15Moreover alsoH1571 I sware unto them in the wildernessH4057, that I would not bringH935 them into the landH776 which I had givenH5414 them, flowingH2100 with milkH2461 and honeyH1706, which is the glory of all landsH776; 16because they rejectedH3988 mine ordinancesH4941, and walkedH1980 not in my statutesH2708, and profanedH2490 my sabbathsH7676: for their heartH3820 wentH1980 after their idolsH1544. 17Nevertheless mine eyeH5869 spared them, and I destroyedH7843 them not, neither did I makeH6213 a full end of them in the wildernessH4057.

18And I saidH559 unto their children in the wildernessH4057, Walk ye not in the statutesH2706 of your fathersH1, neither observeH8104 their ordinancesH4941, nor defileH2930 yourselvesH2930 with their idolsH1544. 19I am Jehovah your GodH430: walk in my statutesH2708, and keepH8104 mine ordinancesH4941, and do them; 20and hallow my sabbathsH7676; and they shall beH1961 a signH226 between me and you, that ye may knowH3045 that I am Jehovah your GodH430. 21But the children rebelledH4784 against me; they walkedH1980 not in my statutesH2708, neither keptH8104 mine ordinancesH4941 to do them, which if a manH120 do, he shall live in them; they profanedH2490 my sabbathsH7676. Then I saidH559 I would pourH8210 out my wrathH2534 upon them, to accomplish my angerH639 against them in the wildernessH4057. 22Nevertheless I withdrew my handH3027, and wrought for my name’sH8034 sakeH4616, that it should not be profanedH2490 in the sight of the nationsH1471, in whose sight I broughtH3318 them forthH3318. 23Moreover I sware unto them in the wildernessH4057, that I would scatterH2219 them among the nationsH1471, and disperseH2219 them through the countries; 24because they had not executed mine ordinancesH4941, but had rejectedH3988 my statutesH2708, and had profanedH2490 my sabbathsH7676, and their eyesH5869 wereH1961 after their fathers’H1 idolsH1544. 25Moreover alsoH1571 I gaveH5414 them statutesH2706 that were not goodH2896, and ordinancesH4941 wherein they should not liveH2421; 26and I polluted them in their own giftsH4979, in that they caused to passH5674 through the fire all that openeth the wombH7356, that I might makeH3045 them desolateH8074, to the end that they might knowH3045 that I am Jehovah.

27ThereforeH3651, sonH1121 of manH120, speakH1696 unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, and sayH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: In this moreover have your fathersH1 blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me. 28For whenH834 I had broughtH935 them into the landH776, which I sware to giveH5414 unto them, then they sawH7200 every highH7311 hillH1389, and every thick treeH6086, and they offeredH2076 there their sacrificesH2077, and there they presented the provocation of their offeringH7133; there also they madeH5414 their sweet savor, and they poured out there their drink-offerings. 29Then I saidH559 unto them, What meaneth the highH1116 placeH1116 whereunto ye goH935? So the nameH8034 thereof is calledH7121 Bamah unto this dayH3117. 30Wherefore sayH559 unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: Do ye pollute yourselves after the manner of your fathersH1? and playH2181 ye the harlot after their abominationsH8251? 31and when ye offer your giftsH4979, when ye makeH2930 your sonsH1121 to passH5674 through the fireH784, do ye pollute yourselves with all your idolsH1544 unto this dayH3117? and shall I be inquired of by you, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? As I live, saith the LordH136 Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you; 32and that which cometh into your mind shall not beH1961 at all, in that ye sayH559, We will beH1961 as the nationsH1471, as the familiesH4940 of the countries, to serveH8334 woodH6086 and stoneH68.

33As I live, saith the LordH136 Jehovah, surely with a mightyH2389 handH3027, and with an outstretchedH5186 armH2220, and with wrathH2534 pouredH8210 out, will I be kingH4427 over you. 34And I will bringH3318 you out from the peoplesH5971, and will gatherH6908 you out of the countries wherein ye are scatteredH6327, with a mightyH2389 handH3027, and with an outstretchedH5186 armH2220, and with wrathH2534 pouredH8210 out; 35and I will bringH935 you into the wildernessH4057 of the peoplesH5971, and there will I enter into judgmentH8199 with you faceH6440 to faceH6440. 36Like as I enteredH8199 into judgmentH8199 with your fathersH1 in the wildernessH4057 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, soH3651 will I enterH8199 into judgmentH8199 with you, saith the LordH136 Jehovah. 37And I will cause you to passH5674 under the rodH7626, and I will bringH935 you into the bond of the covenantH1285; 38and I will purgeH1305 out from among you the rebelsH4775, and them that transgressH6586 against me; I will bringH935 them forthH3318 out of the landH776 where they sojourn, but they shall not enter into the landH776 of IsraelH3478: and ye shall knowH3045 that I am Jehovah. 39As for you, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, thusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: Go ye, serveH5647 every oneH376 his idolsH1544, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me; but my holyH6944 nameH8034 shall ye no more profaneH2490 with your giftsH4979, and with your idolsH1544.

40For in my holyH6944 mountainH2022, in the mountainH2022 of the heightH4791 of IsraelH3478, saith the LordH136 Jehovah, there shall all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, all of them, serveH5647 me in the landH776: there will I acceptH7521 them, and there will I requireH1875 your offerings, and the first-fruits of your oblations, with all your holyH6944 thingsH6944. 41As a sweet savor will I acceptH7521 you, whenH834 I bringH3318 you out from the peoplesH5971, and gatherH6908 you out of the countries wherein ye have been scatteredH6327; and I will be sanctifiedH6942 in you in the sight of the nationsH1471. 42And ye shall knowH3045 that I am Jehovah, when I shall bringH935 you into the landH776 of IsraelH3478, into the country which I sware to giveH5414 unto your fathersH1. 43And there shall ye rememberH2142 your waysH1870, and all your doings, wherein ye have polluted yourselvesH2930; and ye shall loathe yourselvesH2930 in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed. 44And ye shall knowH3045 that I am Jehovah, when I have dealt with you for my name’sH8034 sakeH4616, not according to your evilH7451 waysH1870, nor according to your corruptH7843 doings, O ye houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, saith the Lord Jehovah.

45And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 46Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the field in the South; 47and say to the forest of the South, Hear the word of Jehovah: Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burnt thereby. 48And all flesh shall see that I, Jehovah, have kindled it; it shall not be quenched. 49Then said I, Ah Lord Jehovah! they say of me, Is he not a speaker of parables?
