Isaiah 7

1NowH1961 in the days thatH3117 AhazH271 sonH1121 of JothamH3147, the sonH1121 of UzziahH5818, was kingH4428 of JudahH3063, RezinH7526 kingH4428 of AramH7581 marched upH5927 to wage warH4421 againstH5921 JerusalemH3389. He was accompanied by PekahH6492 sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425 the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, but he couldH3201 notH3808 overpowerH3898 the city.

2When it was reportedH5046 to the houseH1004 of DavidH1732H559 that AramH758H5921 was in league withH5117 EphraimH669,2 the heartsH3824 of AhazH3824 and his peopleH5971 trembledH5128 like treesH6086 in the forestH3293H6440 shakenH5128 by the windH7307.

3Then the LORDH3068 saidH559 toH413 IsaiahH3470, “Go outH3318H4994 with your sonH1121 Shear-jashubH76103 to meetH7122 AhazH271H859 atH413 the endH7097 of the aqueductH8585 that feeds the upperH5945 poolH1295, onH413 the roadH4546 to the Launderer’sH3526 FieldH7704, 4and sayH559 to himH413: Calm downH8104 and be quietH8252. Do notH408 be afraidH3372 or disheartenedH3824H408H7401 over theseH428 twoH8147 smolderingH6226 stubsH2180 of firewoodH181—over the fierceH2750 angerH639 of RezinH7526 and AramH758 and of the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425. 5ForH3282H3588 AramH758, along with EphraimH669 and the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425, has plottedH3289 your ruinH7451H5921, sayingH559: 6‘Let us invadeH5927 JudahH3063, terrorize itH6973, and divide itH12344 among ourselvesH413. Then we can installH4428 the sonH1121 of TabealH2870 over itH8432 as kingH4427.’ 7But this is whatH3541 the LordH136 GODH3069 saysH559:

‘It will notH3808 ariseH6965;it will notH3808 happenH1961.8ForH3588 the headH7218 of AramH758 is DamascusH1834,and the headH7218 of DamascusH1834 is RezinH7526.WithinH5750 sixty-fiveH8346H2568 yearsH8141EphraimH669 will be shatteredH2865 as a peopleH5971.9The headH7218 of EphraimH669 is SamariaH8111,and the headH7218 of SamariaH8111 is the sonH1121 of RemaliahH7425.IfH518 you do notH3808 stand firm in your faithH539,thenH3588 you will notH3808 stand at allH539.’”

The Sign of Immanuel

(Matthew 1:18–25)

10AgainH3254 the LORDH3068 spokeH1696 toH413 AhazH271, sayingH559, 11“AskH7592 for a signH226 fromH5973 the LORDH3068 your GodH430, whether from the depthsH6009 of SheolH7585 orH176 the heightsH1361 of heavenH4605.”

12But AhazH271 repliedH559, “I will notH3808 askH7592; I will notH3808 testH5254 the LORDH3068.”

13Then Isaiah saidH559, “HearH8085 nowH4994, O houseH1004 of DavidH1732! Is it not enoughH4592 to try the patienceH3811 of menH582H3588? Will you try the patienceH3811 of my GodH430 as wellH1571? 14ThereforeH3651 the LordH136 HimselfH1931 will giveH5414 you a signH226: BeholdH2009, the virginH59595 will be with childH2030 and give birthH3205 to a sonH1121, and will callH7121 HimH8034 ImmanuelH6005.6 15By the time He knowsH3045 enough to rejectH3988 evilH7451 and chooseH977 goodH2896, He will be eatingH398 curdsH2529 and honeyH1706. 16ForH3588 beforeH2962 the boyH5288 knowsH3045 enough to rejectH3988 evilH7451 and chooseH977 goodH2896, the landH127 of the twoH8147 kingsH4428 youH859 dreadH6973H6440 will be laid wasteH5800.

Judgment to Come

(Micah 1:1–7)

17The LORDH3068 will bringH935 on youH5921 and onH5921 your peopleH5971 and onH5921 the houseH1004 of your fatherH1 a timeH3117 unlikeH3808H935 any since the dayH3117 EphraimH669H5921 separatedH5493 from JudahH3063—He will bring the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804.”

18

On thatH1931 dayH3117 the LORDH3068 will whistleH8319 to the fliesH2070 at the farthestH7097 streamsH2975 of the NileH4714 and to the beesH1682 in the landH776 of AssyriaH804.

19And they will allH3605 comeH935 and settleH5117in the steepH1327 ravinesH5158 and cleftsH5357 of the rocksH5553,in allH3605 the thornbushesH5285 andH3605 watering holesH5097.

20On thatH1931 dayH3117 the LordH136 will use a razorH8593 hiredH7917 from beyondH5676 the EuphratesH51047—the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804—to shaveH1548 your headH7218 and the hairH8181 of your legsH7272, and to removeH5595 your beardH2206 as wellH1571. 21On thatH1931 dayH3117 a manH376 will raiseH2421 a young cowH5697H1241 and twoH8147 sheepH6629, 22and fromH1961 the abundanceH7230 of milkH2461 they giveH6213, he will eatH398 curdsH2529; forH3588 allH3605 who remainH3498 inH7130 the landH776 will eatH398 curdsH2529 and honeyH1706.

23And on thatH1931 dayH3117, in everyH3605 placeH4725 thatH834 hadH1961H8033 a thousandH505 vinesH1612 worth a thousandH505 shekels of silverH3701,8 only briersH8068 and thornsH7898 will be foundH1961. 24Men will goH935 thereH8033 with bowH7198 and arrowH2671, forH3588 the landH776 will beH1961 covered with briersH8068 and thornsH7898. 25For fearH3374 of the briersH8068 and thornsH7898, you will no longerH3808 traverseH935 the hillsH2022 once tilledH5737H3605 by the hoeH4576; they will becomeH1961 places for oxenH7794 to grazeH4916 and sheepH7716 to trampleH4823.
