Genesis 44:8-33

8BeholdH2005, 1the moneyH3701 whichH834 we foundH4672 in the mouthH6310 of our sacksH572 we have broughtH7725 backH7725 to you from the landH776 of CanaanH3667. HowH349 then could we stealH1589 silverH3701 orH176 goldH2091 from your lord’sH113 houseH1004? 92With whomeverH834 of your servantsH5650 it is foundH4672, let him dieH4191, and we alsoH1571 will be my lord’sH113 3slavesH5650.” 10So he saidH559, “NowH6258 let it alsoH1571 be according to your wordsH1697; he with whomH834 it is foundH4672 shall be my slaveH5650, and the rest of you shall be innocentH5355.” 11Then they hurriedH4116, eachH376 manH376 loweredH3381 his sackH572 to the groundH776, and eachH376 manH376 openedH6605 his sackH572. 12He searchedH2664, beginningH2490 with the oldestH1419 and endingH3615 with the youngestH6996, and 4the cupH1375 was foundH4672 in Benjamin’sH1144 sackH572. 13Then they 5toreH7167 their clothesH8071, and when eachH376 manH376 loadedH6006 his donkeyH2543, they returnedH7725 to 6the cityH5892.

14When JudahH3063 and his brothersH251 cameH935 to Joseph’sH3130 houseH1004, he was stillH5750 thereH8033, and 7they fellH5307 to the groundH776 beforeH6440 him. 15JosephH3130 saidH559 to them, “WhatH4100 is thisH2088 deedH4639 that you have doneH6213? Do you not knowH3045 that suchH3644 a manH376 as I can indeedH5172 practiceH5172 8divinationH5172?” 16So JudahH3063 saidH559, “WhatH4100 can we sayH559 to my lordH113? WhatH4100 can we speakH1696? And howH4100 can we justifyH6663 ourselves? GodH430 has foundH4672 out the iniquityH5771 of your servantsH5650; beholdH2009, we are my lord’sH113 9slavesH5650, bothH1571 we and the one in whoseH834 10possessionH3027 the cupH1375 has been foundH4672.” 17But he saidH559, “FarH2486 be it from me to doH6213 thisH2088. The manH376 in whoseH834 11possessionH3027 the cupH1375 has been foundH4672, he shall be my slaveH5650; but as for you, goH5927 up in peaceH7965 to your fatherH1.”

18Then JudahH3063 approachedH5066 him, and saidH559, “OhH994 my lordH113, may your servantH5650 pleaseH4994 speakH1696 a wordH1697 in my lord’sH113 earsH241, and 1213do not be angryH639H2734 with your servantH5650; for 14you are equal to PharaohH6547. 1915My lordH113 askedH7592 his servantsH5650, sayingH559, ‘HaveH3426 you a fatherH1 orH176 a brotherH251?’ 20We saidH559 to my lordH113, ‘We haveH3426 an oldH2205 fatherH1 and 16a littleH6996 childH3206 of his oldH2208 ageH2208. Now 17his brotherH251 is deadH4191, so he aloneH905 is leftH3498 of his motherH517, and his fatherH1 lovesH157 him.’ 21Then you saidH559 to your servantsH5650, ‘18BringH3381 him downH3381 to me that I may setH7760 my eyesH5869 on him.’ 22But we saidH559 to my lordH113, ‘The ladH5288 cannotH3201H3808 leaveH5800 his fatherH1, for if he should leaveH5800 his fatherH1, 19his father would dieH4191.’ 23You saidH559 to your servantsH5650, however, ‘20UnlessH518H3808 your youngestH6996 brotherH251 comesH3381 downH3381 with you, you will not seeH7200 my faceH6440 againH3254.’ 24Thus it cameH1961 about whenH3588 we wentH5927 up to your servantH5650 my fatherH1, we toldH5046 him the wordsH1697 of my lordH113. 2521Our fatherH1 saidH559, ‘GoH7725 backH7725, buyH7666 us a littleH4592 foodH400.’ 26But we saidH559, ‘We cannotH3201H3808 goH3381 downH3381. IfH518 our youngestH6996 brotherH251 is with us, then we will goH3381 downH3381; for we cannotH3201H3808 seeH7200 the man’sH376 faceH6440 unlessH369 our youngestH6996 brotherH251 is with us.’ 27Your servantH5650 my fatherH1 saidH559 to us, ‘You knowH3045 that 22my wifeH802 boreH3205 me twoH8147 sons; 28and the oneH259 wentH3318 out from me, and 23I saidH559, “SurelyH389 he is tornH2963 in piecesH2963,” and I have not seenH7200 him sinceH5704H2008. 29If you takeH3947 thisH2088 oneH2088 alsoH1571 from 24me, and harmH611 befallsH7136 him, you will 25bringH3381 my grayH7872 hairH7872 downH3381 to SheolH7585 in 26sorrowH7463.’ 30NowH6258, therefore, when I comeH935 to your servantH5650 my fatherH1, and the ladH5288 is not with us, since 2728his lifeH5315 is boundH7194 up in the lad’s lifeH5315, 31when he seesH7200 that the ladH5288 is not with us, he will dieH4191. Thus your servantsH5650 will 29bringH3381 the grayH7872 hairH7872 of your servantH5650 our fatherH1 downH3381 to SheolH7585 in sorrowH3015. 32For your servantH5650 30becameH6148 suretyH6148 for the ladH5288 to my fatherH1, sayingH559, ‘IfH518 I do not bringH935 him back to you, then 31let me bearH2398 the blameH2398 before my fatherH1 foreverH3605H3117.’ 33NowH6258, therefore, pleaseH4994 let your servantH5650 remainH3427 insteadH8478 of the ladH5288 a slaveH5650 to my lordH113, and let the ladH5288 goH5927 up with his brothersH251.
