2 Kings 22

American Standard Version

1JosiahH2977 was eightH8083 yearsH8141 old when he began to reignH4427; and he reignedH4427 thirtyH7970 and oneH259 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389: and his mother’sH517 nameH8034 was Jedidah the daughterH1323 of AdaiahH5718 of BozkathH1218. 2And he did that which was rightH3225 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah, and walked in all the wayH1870 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1, and turnedH5493 not asideH5493 to the rightH3225 handH3225 or to the left.

3And it came to pass in the eighteenth yearH8141 of kingH4428 JosiahH2977, that the kingH4428 sentH7971 ShaphanH8227, the sonH1121 of AzaliahH683 the sonH1121 of MeshullamH4918, the scribeH5608, to the houseH1004 of Jehovah, sayingH559, 4GoH935 up to HilkiahH2518 the high priestH3548, that he may sum the moneyH3701 which is broughtH935 into the houseH1004 of Jehovah, which the keepersH8104 of the threshold have gatheredH622 of the peopleH5971: 5and let them deliver it into the handH3027 of the workmen that have the oversight of the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and let them giveH5414 it to the workmen that are in the houseH1004 of Jehovah, to repairH2388 the breaches of the houseH1004, 6unto the carpenters, and to the buildersH1129, and to the masonsH1443, and for buyingH7069 timber and hewn stoneH68 to repairH2388 the houseH1004. 7Howbeit there was no reckoning madeH6213 with them of the moneyH3701 that was delivered into their handH3027; for they dealt faithfully.

8And HilkiahH2518 the high priestH3548 saidH559 unto ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608, I have foundH4672 the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 in the houseH1004 of Jehovah. And HilkiahH2518 delivered the bookH5612 to ShaphanH8227, and he readH7121 it. 9And ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608 cameH935 to the kingH4428, and broughtH935 the kingH4428 wordH1697 again, and saidH559, Thy servantsH5650 have emptied out the moneyH3701 that was foundH4672 in the houseH1004, and have delivered it into the handH3027 of the workmen that have the oversight of the houseH1004 of Jehovah. 10And ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608 toldH5046 the kingH4428, sayingH559, HilkiahH2518 the priestH3548 hath delivered me a bookH5612. And ShaphanH8227 readH7121 it before the kingH4428. 11And it came to pass, when the kingH4428 had heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 of the lawH8451, that he rent his clothesH899. 12And the kingH4428 commandedH6680 HilkiahH2518 the priestH3548, and AhikamH296 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, and AchborH5907 the sonH1121 of MicaiahH4320, and ShaphanH8227 the scribeH5608, and AsaiahH6222 the king’sH4428 servantH5650, sayingH559, 13Go ye, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for the peopleH5971, and for all JudahH3063, concerning the wordsH1697 of this bookH5612 that is foundH4672; for greatH1419 is the wrathH2534 of Jehovah that is kindledH3341 against us, because our fathersH1 have not hearkened unto the wordsH1697 of this bookH5612, to do according unto all that which is writtenH3789 concerning us.

14So HilkiahH2518 the priestH3548, and AhikamH296, and AchborH5907, and ShaphanH8227, and AsaiahH6222, went unto HuldahH2468 the prophetessH5031, the wifeH802 of ShallumH7967 the sonH1121 of TikvahH8616, the sonH1121 of Harhas, keeperH8104 of the wardrobe (now she dweltH3427 in JerusalemH3389 in the secondH4932 quarter); and they communed with her. 15And she saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Tell ye the manH376 that sentH7971 you unto me, 16ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bringH935 evilH7451 upon this placeH4725, and upon the inhabitantsH3427 thereof, even all the wordsH1697 of the bookH5612 which the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 hath readH7121. 17Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incenseH6999 unto otherH312 godsH430, that they might provokeH3707 me to angerH3707 with all the workH4639 of their handsH3027, therefore my wrathH2534 shall be kindledH3341 against this placeH4725, and it shall not be quenchedH3518. 18But unto the kingH4428 of JudahH3063, who sentH7971 you to inquire of Jehovah, thusH3541 shall ye sayH559 to him, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: As touching the wordsH1697 which thou hast heardH8085, 19because thy heartH3824 wasH1961 tender, and thou didst humbleH3665 thyself before Jehovah, when thou heardest what I spake against this placeH4725, and against the inhabitantsH3427 thereof, that they should becomeH1961 a desolationH8047 and a curseH7045, and hast rent thy clothesH899, and weptH1058 before me; I alsoH1571 have heardH8085 thee, saith Jehovah. 20ThereforeH3651, behold, I will gatherH622 thee to thy fathersH1, and thou shalt be gatheredH622 to thy graveH6913 in peaceH7965, neither shall thine eyesH5869 seeH7200 all the evilH7451 which I will bringH935 upon this placeH4725. And they broughtH935 the kingH4428 wordH1697 again.
