A Sign against Egypt and Cush
1Before the yearH8141 that the chief commanderH8661, sentH7971 by SargonH5623 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, cameH935 to AshdodH795 and attackedH3898 and capturedH3920 it, 2the LORDH3068 had already spokenH1696 throughH3027 IsaiahH3470 sonH1121 of AmozH531, sayingH559, “GoH1980, removeH6605 the sackclothH8242 fromH5921 your waistH4975 and the sandalsH5275 from your feetH7272.”
And Isaiah didH6213 soH3651, walking aroundH1980 nakedH6174 and barefootH3182.
3Then the LORDH3068 saidH559, “Just asH834 My servantH5650 IsaiahH3470 has goneH1980 nakedH6174 and barefootH3182 for threeH7969 yearsH8141 as a signH226 and omenH4159 againstH5921 EgyptH4714H5921 and CushH3568,1 4soH3651 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 will lead awayH5090 the captivesH7628 of EgyptH4714 and the exilesH1546 of CushH3568, youngH5288 and old alikeH2205, nakedH6174 and barefootH3182, with baredH2834 buttocksH8357—to Egypt’sH4714 shameH6172.
5Those who made CushH3568 their hopeH4007H4480 and EgyptH4714 their boastH8597 will be dismayedH2865 and ashamedH954. 6And on thatH1931 dayH3117 the dwellersH3427 of thisH2088 coastlandH339 will sayH559, ‘SeeH2009 what has happenedH3541 to our source of hopeH4007, those to whomH834 we fledH5127H8033 for helpH5833 and deliveranceH5337 fromH6440 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804! How thenH349 can weH587 escapeH4422?’”
