Isaiah 16
Moab’s Destruction
(Zephaniah 2:8–11)
1SendH7971 the tribute lambsH3733to the rulerH4910 of the landH776,from SelaH5554 in the desertH4057toH413 the mountH2022 of DaughterH1323 ZionH6726.2Like fluttering birdsH5775H5074pushedH7971 out of the nestH7064,so areH1961 the daughtersH1323 of MoabH4124at the fordsH4569 of the ArnonH769:3“Give usH935 counselH6098;renderH6213 a decisionH6415H7896.Shelter us at noondayH6672with shadeH6738H8432 as dark as nightH3915.HideH5641 the refugeesH5080;do notH408 betrayH1540 the one who fleesH5074.4Let my fugitivesH5080 stayH1481 with you;beH1933 a refugeH5643 for MoabH4124 fromH6440 the destroyerH7703.”WhenH3588 the oppressorH4160 has goneH656, destructionH7701 has ceasedH3615,and the oppressorsH7429 have vanishedH8552 fromH4480 the landH776,5in loving devotionH26171 a throneH3678 will be establishedH3559in the tentH168 of DavidH1732.A judgeH8199 seekingH1875 justiceH4941 and hasteningH4106 righteousnessH6664will sitH3427 onH5921 it in faithfulnessH571.
6We have heardH8085 of Moab’sH4124 pomposityH1347,his exceedingH3966 prideH1341 and conceitH1346,his overflowingH5678 arroganceH1347.But his boastingH907 is emptyH3808H3651.7ThereforeH3651 let MoabH4124 wailH3213;let them wailH3213 togetherH3605 for MoabH4124.MoanH1897 for the raisin cakesH809 of Kir-haresethH7025,you who are utterlyH389 strickenH5218.8ForH3588 the fieldsH7709 of HeshbonH2809 have witheredH535,along with the grapevinesH1612 of SibmahH7643.The rulersH1167 of the nationsH1471have trampledH1986 its choicest vinesH8291,which had reachedH5060 asH5704 far as JazerH3270and spreadH8582 toward the desertH4057.Their shootsH7976 had spread outH5203and passed overH5674 the seaH3220.2
9SoH5921H3651 I weepH1058H1065 with JazerH3270for the vinesH1612 of SibmahH7643;I drenchH7301 HeshbonH2809 and ElealehH500H3588with my tearsH1832.Triumphant shoutsH1959 have fallen silentH5307overH5921 your summer fruitH7019H5921 and your harvestH7105.10JoyH8057 and gladnessH1524 are removedH622 fromH4480 the orchardH3759;no oneH3808 singsH7442 or shoutsH7321 in the vineyardsH3754.NoH3808 one tramplesH1869 the grapesH3196 in the winepressesH3342H3808;I have put an endH7673 to the cheeringH1959.11ThereforeH5921H3651 my heartH4578 lamentsH1993 for MoabH4124 like a harpH3658,my inmost beingH7130 for Kir-heresH7025.312WhenH3588 MoabH4124 appearsH7200 onH5921 the high placeH1116,whenH3588 he wearies himselfH3811and entersH935H413 his sanctuaryH4720 to prayH6419,it will do him noH3808 goodH3201.
13ThisH2088 is the messageH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 spokeH1696 earlierH227 concerningH413 MoabH4124. 14And nowH6258 the LORDH3068H559 saysH1696, “In threeH7969 yearsH8141, as a hired workerH7916 counts the yearsH8141, Moab’sH4124 splendorH3519 will become an object of contemptH7034, with allH3605 her manyH7227 peopleH1995. And those who are leftH7605 will be fewH4592H4213 and feebleH3808H3524.”
