1Then the LORDיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068saidוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872, “Leaveלֵ֣ךְlekhH1980עֲלֵ֣ה'a.LehH5927this placeמִזֶּ֔הmi.ZehH2088,youאַתָּ֣ה'a.TahH859and the peopleוְהָעָ֔םve.ha.'AmH5971אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you brought upהֶֽעֱלִ֖יתָhe.'e.Li.taH5927out of the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714, and gotoאֶל־'el-H413the landהָאָ֗רֶץha.'A.retzH776thatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I promisedנִ֠שְׁבַּעְתִּיNish.ba'.tiH7650to Abrahamלְאַבְרָהָ֨םle.'av.ra.HamH85,Isaacלְיִצְחָ֤קle.yitz.ChakH3327,and Jacobוּֽלְיַעֲקֹב֙u.le.ya.'a.KoH3290when I saidלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘I will give itאֶתְּנֶֽנָּה׃'et.te.Ne.nahH5414to your descendantsלְזַרְעֲךָ֖le.zar.'a.KhaH2233.’

2And I will sendוְשָׁלַחְתִּ֥יve.sha.lach.TiH7971an angelמַלְאָ֑ךְmal.'AkhH4397before youלְפָנֶ֖יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440,and I will drive outוְגֵֽרַשְׁתִּ֗יve.ge.rash.TiH1644אֶת־'et-H853the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669,Amoritesהָֽאֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567,Hittitesוְהַֽחִתִּי֙ve.ha.chi.TiH2850,Perizzitesוְהַפְּרִזִּ֔יve.hap.pe.ri.ZiH6522,Hivitesהַחִוִּ֖יha.chi.ViH2340,and Jebusitesוְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃ve.hay.vu.SiH2983.

3Go up toאֶל־'el-H413a landאֶ֛רֶץ'E.retzH776flowingזָבַ֥תza.VatH2100with milkחָלָ֖בcha.LavH2461and honeyוּדְבָ֑שׁu.de.VashH1706.Butכִּי֩kiH3588I will notלֹ֨אlo'H3808goאֶֽעֱלֶ֜ה'e.'e.LehH5927with youבְּקִרְבְּךָ֗be.kir.be.ChaH7130,becauseכִּ֤יkiH3588youאַ֔תָּה'A.tahH859are a stiff-neckedקְשֵׁה־ עֹ֙רֶף֙ke.sheh- 'o.refH7186 H6203peopleעַם־'am-H5971;otherwiseפֶּן־pen-H6435,I might destroyאֲכֶלְךָ֖'a.khel.KhaH3615you on the wayבַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃ba.Da.rekhH1870.”

4When the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971אֶת־'et-H853heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088badהָרָ֛עha.Ra'H7451newsהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697,they went into mourningוַיִּתְאַבָּ֑לוּvai.yit.'a.Ba.luH56,and noוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808oneאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376put onשָׁ֛תוּSha.tuH7896any of his jewelryעֶדְי֖וֹ עָלָֽיו׃ed.Yo 'a.LavH5716 H5921.

5For the LORDיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068had saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Tellאֱמֹ֤ר אֶל־'e.Mor 'el-H559 H413the Israelitesבְּנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙be.nei- Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478, ‘Youאַתֶּ֣ם'a.TemH859are a stiff-neckedקְשֵׁה־ עֹ֔רֶףke.sheh- 'O.refH7186 H6203peopleעַם־'am-H5971.If I should goאֶֽעֱלֶ֥ה'e.'e.LehH5927with youבְקִרְבְּךָ֖ve.kir.be.ChaH7130for a singleאֶחָ֛ד'e.ChadH259momentרֶ֧גַעRe.ga'H7281,I would destroy youוְכִלִּיתִ֑יךָve.khi.li.Ti.khaH3615.Nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258take offהוֹרֵ֤דho.RedH3381your jewelryעֶדְיְךָ֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ'ed.ye.Kha me.'a.Lei.khaH5716 H5921,and I will decideוְאֵדְעָ֖הve.'e.de.'AhH3045whatמָ֥הmahH4100to doאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־'e.'e.seh-H6213with you.’”

6So the Israelitesבְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛לve.nei- Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478אֶת־'et-H853stripped themselvesוַיִּֽתְנַצְּל֧וּvai.yit.na.tze.LuH5337of their jewelryעֶדְיָ֖ם'ed.YamH5716from Mountמֵהַ֥רme.HarH2022Horebחוֹרֵֽב׃cho.RevH2722onward.

The Tent of Meeting

7Now Mosesוּמֹשֶׁה֩u.mo.ShehH4872used to takeיִקַּ֨חyi.KachH3947אֶת־'et-H853the tentהָאֹ֜הֶלha.'O.helH168and pitchוְנָֽטָה־ve.na.tah-H5186itמִח֣וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗הmi.Chutz la.ma.cha.NehH2351 H4264at a distanceהַרְחֵק֙har.ChekH7368outsideמִן־min-H4480the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264.He calledוְקָ֥רָאve.Ka.ra'H7121itthe Tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of Meetingמוֹעֵ֑דmo.'EdH4150,andוְהָיָה֙ve.ha.YahH1961anyoneכָּל־kol-H3605inquiring ofמְבַקֵּ֣שׁme.va.KeshH1245the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068would goיֵצֵא֙ye.Tze'H3318toאֶל־'el-H413the Tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of Meetingמוֹעֵ֔דmo.'EdH4150אֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834outsideמִח֥וּץmi.ChutzH2351the campלַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃La.ma.cha.NehH4264.

8Thenוְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961,whenever Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872went outכְּצֵ֤אתke.TzetH3318toאֶל־'el-H413the tentהָאֹ֔הֶלha.'O.helH168,allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔ם וְנִ֨צְּב֔וּha.'Am ve.Ni.tze.VuH5971 H5324would standיָק֙וּמוּ֙ya.Ku.muH6965אִ֖ישׁ'ishH376at the entrancesפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607to their own tentsאָהֳל֑וֹ'o.ho.LoH168and watchוְהִבִּ֙יטוּ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣יve.hi.Bi.tu 'a.cha.ReiH5027 H310Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872untilעַד־'ad-H5704he enteredבֹּא֖וֹbo.'OH935the tentהָאֹֽהֱלָה׃ha.'O.he.lahH168.

9Asוְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872enteredכְּבֹ֤אke.Vo'H935the tentהָאֹ֔הֱלָהha.'O.he.lahH168,the pillarעַמּ֣וּד'a.MudH5982of cloudהֶֽעָנָ֔ןhe.'a.NanH6051would come downיֵרֵד֙ye.RedH3381and remainוְעָמַ֖דve.'a.MadH5975at the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607הָאֹ֑הֶלha.'O.helH168,and the LORD would speakוְדִבֶּ֖רve.di.BerH1696withעִם־'im-H5973Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃mo.ShehH4872.

10When allכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971אֶת־'et-H853sawוְרָאָ֤הve.ra.'AhH7200the pillarעַמּ֣וּד'a.MudH5982of cloudהֶֽעָנָ֔ןhe.'a.NanH6051standingעֹמֵ֖ד'o.MedH5975at the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607to the tentהָאֹ֑הֶלha.'O.helH168,theyכָּל־ הָעָם֙kol- ha.'AmH3605 H5971would stand upוְקָ֤םve.KamH6965and worshipוְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֔וּve.hish.ta.cha.VuH7812,each oneאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376at the entranceפֶּ֥תַחPe.tachH6607to his own tentאָהֳלֽוֹ׃'o.ho.LoH168.

11Thus the LORDיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068would speakוְדִבֶּ֨רve.di.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872faceפָּנִ֣יםpa.NimH6440toאֶל־'el-H413faceפָּנִ֔יםpa.NimH6440,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֛רka.'a.SherH834a manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376speaksיְדַבֵּ֥רye.da.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413his friendרֵעֵ֑הוּre.'E.huH7453.Then Moses would returnוְשָׁב֙ve.ShavH7725toאֶל־'el-H413the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264,but his youngנַ֔עַרNa.'arH5288assistantוּמְשָׁ֨רְת֜וֹu.me.Sha.re.ToH8334Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091sonבִּן־bin-H1121of Nunנוּן֙nunH5126would notלֹ֥אlo'H3808leaveיָמִ֖ישׁya.MishH4185the tentמִתּ֥וֹךְ הָאֹֽהֶל׃ סmi.Tokh ha.'O.helH8432 H168.

12Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֜הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068, “Lookרְ֠אֵהRe.'ehH7200,Youאַתָּ֞ה'a.TahH859have been telling meאֹמֵ֤ר אֵלַי֙'o.Mer 'e.LaiH559 H413, ‘Leadהַ֚עַלHa.'alH5927thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088people upהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971אֶת־'et-H853,’but Youוְאַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH859have notלֹ֣אlo'H3808let me knowהֽוֹדַעְתַּ֔נִיho.da'.Ta.niH3045אֵ֥ת'etH853whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834You will sendתִּשְׁלַ֖חtish.LachH7971with meעִמִּ֑י'i.MiH5973.Yet Youוְאַתָּ֤הve.'a.TahH859have saidאָמַ֙רְתָּ֙'a.Mar.taH559, ‘I knowיְדַעְתִּ֣יךָֽye.da'.Ti.khaH3045you by nameבְשֵׁ֔םve.ShemH8034,and you haveוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571foundמָצָ֥אתָma.Tza.taH4672favorחֵ֖ןchenH2580in My sightבְּעֵינָֽי׃be.'ei.NaiH5869.’

13Nowוְעַתָּ֡הve.'a.TahH6258ifאִם־'im-H518indeedנָא֩na'H4994I have foundמָצָ֨אתִיma.Tza.tiH4672favorחֵ֜ןchenH2580in Your sightבְּעֵינֶ֗יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,pleaseנָא֙na'H4994let me knowהוֹדִעֵ֤נִיho.di.'E.niH3045אֶת־'et-H853Your waysדְּרָכֶ֔ךָde.ra.Khe.khaH1870,that I may know Youוְאֵדָ֣עֲךָ֔ לְמַ֥עַןve.'e.Da.'a.kha le.Ma.'anH3045 H4616and findאֶמְצָא־'em.tza'-H4672favorחֵ֖ןchenH2580in Your sightבְּעֵינֶ֑יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.Rememberוּרְאֵ֕הu.re.'EhH7200thatכִּ֥יkiH3588thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088nationהַגּ֥וֹיha.GoyH1471is Your peopleעַמְּךָ֖'a.me.KhaH5971.”

14And the LORD answeredוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “My Presenceפָּנַ֥יpa.NaiH6440will goיֵלֵ֖כוּye.Le.khuH1980with you,and I will give you restוַהֲנִחֹ֥תִיva.ha.ni.Cho.tiH5117.”

15“Ifאִם־'im-H518Your Presenceפָּנֶ֙יךָ֙pa.Nei.khaH6440does notאֵ֤ין'einH369goהֹלְכִ֔יםho.le.KhimH1980with us,”Moses repliedוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֵלָ֑יו'e.LavH413, “do notאַֽל־'al-H408lead us upתַּעֲלֵ֖נוּta.'a.Le.nuH5927from hereמִזֶּֽה׃mi.ZehH2088.

16For how thenוּבַמֶּ֣ה׀u.va.MehH4100can it be knownיִוָּדַ֣ע אֵפ֗וֹאyi.va.Da' 'e.Fo'H3045 H645thatכִּֽי־ki-H3588Your peopleוְעַמֶּ֔ךָve.'a.Me.khaH5971and Iאֲנִ֣י'a.NiH589have foundמָצָ֨אתִיma.Tza.tiH4672favorחֵ֤ןchenH2580in Your sightבְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙be.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,unlessהֲל֖וֹאha.Lo'H3808You goבְּלֶכְתְּךָ֣be.lekh.te.KhaH1980with usעִמָּ֑נוּ'i.Ma.nuH5973? How else willweאֲנִ֣י וְעַמְּךָ֔'a.Ni ve.'a.me.KhaH589 H5971be distinguishedוְנִפְלֵ֙ינוּ֙ve.nif.Lei.nuH6395from allמִכָּ֨ל־mi.kolH3605the other peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971אֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834onעַל־'al-H5921the faceפְּנֵ֥יpe.NeiH6440of the earthהָאֲדָמָֽה׃ פha.'a.da.MahH127?”

17So the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872, “I will doאֶֽעֱשֶׂ֑ה'e.'e.SehH6213thisהַזֶּ֛הha.ZehH2088אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834veryגַּ֣םgamH1571אֶת־'et-H853thingהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697you have askedדִּבַּ֖רְתָּdi.Bar.taH1696,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588you have foundמָצָ֤אתָma.Tza.taH4672favorחֵן֙chenH2580in My sightבְּעֵינַ֔יbe.'ei.NaiH5869,and I knowוָאֵדָעֲךָ֖va.'e.da.'a.KhaH3045you by nameבְּשֵֽׁם׃be.ShemH8034.”

18Then Moses saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “Pleaseנָ֖אna'H4994אֶת־'et-H853show meהַרְאֵ֥נִיhar.'E.niH7200Your gloryכְּבֹדֶֽךָ׃ke.vo.De.khaH3519.”

19“Iאֲנִ֨י'a.NiH589will cause allכָּל־kol-H3605My goodnessטוּבִי֙tu.ViH2898to passאַעֲבִ֤יר'a.'a.VirH5674beforeעַל־'al-H5921youפָּנֶ֔יךָpa.Nei.khaH6440,” the LORDrepliedוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “and I will proclaimוְקָרָ֧אתִֽיve.ka.Ra.tiH7121Mynameבְשֵׁ֛םve.ShemH8034—the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068—in your presenceלְפָנֶ֑יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440.I will have mercyוְחַנֹּתִי֙ve.cha.no.TiH2603אֶת־'et-H853on whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I have mercyאָחֹ֔ן'a.ChonH2603,and I will have compassionוְרִחַמְתִּ֖יve.ri.cham.TiH7355אֶת־'et-H853on whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I have compassionאֲרַחֵֽם׃'a.ra.ChemH7355.”

20But He addedוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “You cannotלֹ֥א תוּכַ֖לlo' tu.KhalH3808 H3201seeלִרְאֹ֣תlir.'OtH7200אֶת־'et-H853My faceפָּנָ֑יpa.NaiH6440,forכִּ֛יkiH3588noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808oneהָאָדָ֖םha.'a.DamH120can seeיִרְאַ֥נִיyir.'A.niH7200Meand liveוָחָֽי׃va.ChaiH2421.”

21The LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068continuedוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Thereהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009is a placeמָק֖וֹםma.KomH4725near Meאִתִּ֑י'i.TiH854where you are to standוְנִצַּבְתָּ֖ve.ni.tzav.TaH5324uponעַל־'al-H5921a rockהַצּֽוּר׃ha.TzurH6697,

22and whenוְהָיָה֙ve.ha.YahH1961My gloryכְּבֹדִ֔יke.vo.DiH3519passes byבַּעֲבֹ֣רba.'a.VorH5674,I will put youוְשַׂמְתִּ֖יךָve.sam.Ti.khaH7760in a cleftבְּנִקְרַ֣תbe.nik.RatH5366of the rockהַצּ֑וּרha.TzurH6697and cover youוְשַׂכֹּתִ֥יve.sa.ko.TiH5526with My handכַפִּ֛י עָלֶ֖יךָkha.Pi 'a.Lei.khaH3709 H5921untilעַד־'ad-H5704I have passed byעָבְרִֽי׃'a.ve.RiH5674.

23Then I will take My handכַּפִּ֔יka.PiH3709awayוַהֲסִרֹתִי֙va.ha.si.ro.TiH5493אֶת־'et-H853,and you will seeוְרָאִ֖יתָve.ra.'I.taH7200אֶת־'et-H853My backאֲחֹרָ֑י'a.cho.RaiH268;but My faceוּפָנַ֖יu.fa.NaiH6440must notלֹ֥אlo'H3808be seenיֵרָאֽוּ׃ סye.ra.'UH7200.”
