2“Consecrateקַדֶּשׁ־ka.desh-H6942to Meeveryכָל־khol-H3605firstborn maleבְּכ֜וֹרbe.KhorH1060.The firstbornפֶּ֤טֶרPe.terH6363from everyכָּל־kol-H3605wombרֶ֙חֶם֙re.chemH7358among the Israelitesבִּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbiv.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478belongsהֽוּא׃Hu'H1931to Me, bothof manבָּאָדָ֖םba.'a.DamH120and beastוּבַבְּהֵמָ֑הu.va.be.he.MahH929.”

3So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֜הmo.ShehH4872toldוַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֶל־vai.Yo.mer 'el-H559 H413the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971, “Rememberזָכ֞וֹרza.KhorH2142אֶת־'et-H853thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֤וֹםhai.YomH3117, the dayאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834you came outיְצָאתֶ֤םye.tza.TemH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,out of the houseמִבֵּ֣יתmi.BeitH1004of slaveryעֲבָדִ֔ים'a.va.DimH5650;forכִּ֚יkiH3588the LORDיְהֹוָ֛הYah.wehH3068אֶתְכֶ֖ם'et.KhemH853brought you outהוֹצִ֧יאho.Tzi'H3318of itמִזֶּ֑הmi.ZehH2088by the strengthבְּחֹ֣זֶקbe.Cho.zekH2392of His handיָ֔דYadH3027.And nothingוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808leavenedחָמֵֽץ׃cha.MetzH2557shall be eatenיֵאָכֵ֖לye.'a.KhelH398.

4Todayהַיּ֖וֹםhai.YomH3117,in the monthבְּחֹ֖דֶשׁbe.Cho.deshH2320of Abibהָאָבִֽיב׃ha.'a.VivH24,youאַתֶּ֣ם'a.TemH859are leavingיֹצְאִ֑יםyo.tze.'ImH3318.

5Andוְהָיָ֣הve.ha.YahH1961whenכִֽי־khi-H3588the LORDיְהוָ֡הYah.wehH3068bringsיְבִֽיאֲךָ֣ye.vi.'a.KhaH935you intoאֶל־'el-H413the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of the Canaanitesהַֽ֠כְּנַעֲנִיHa.ke.na.'a.niH3669,Hittitesוְהַחִתִּ֨יve.ha.chi.TiH2850,Amoritesוְהָאֱמֹרִ֜יve.ha.'e.mo.RiH567,Hivitesוְהַחִוִּ֣יve.ha.chi.ViH2340,and Jebusitesוְהַיְבוּסִ֗יve.hay.vu.SiH2983—the landאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834He sworeנִשְׁבַּ֤עnish.Ba'H7650to your fathersלַאֲבֹתֶ֙יךָ֙la.'a.vo.Tei.khaH1that He would giveלָ֣תֶתLa.tetH5414you,a landאֶ֛רֶץ'E.retzH776flowingזָבַ֥תza.VatH2100with milkחָלָ֖בcha.LavH2461and honeyוּדְבָ֑שׁu.de.VashH1706—you shall keepוְעָבַדְתָּ֛ve.'a.vad.TaH5647אֶת־'et-H853thisהַזֹּ֖אתha.ZotH2063serviceהָעֲבֹדָ֥הha.'a.vo.DahH5656in thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088monthבַּחֹ֥דֶשׁba.Cho.deshH2320.

6For sevenשִׁבְעַ֥תshiv.'AtH7651daysיָמִ֖יםya.MimH3117you are to eatתֹּאכַ֣לto.KhalH398unleavened breadמַצֹּ֑תma.TzotH4682,and on the seventhהַשְּׁבִיעִ֔יha.she.vi.'IH7637dayוּבַיּוֹם֙u.vai.yOmH3117there shall be a feastחַ֖גchagH2282to the LORDלַיהוָֽה׃la.Yah.wehH3068.

7Unleavened breadמַצּוֹת֙ma.tzOtH4682shall be eatenיֵֽאָכֵ֔לye.'a.KhelH398אֵ֖ת'etH853during those sevenשִׁבְעַ֣תshiv.'AtH7651daysהַיָּמִ֑יםhai.ya.MimH3117.Nothingוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808leavenedחָמֵ֗ץcha.MetzH2557may be foundיֵרָאֶ֨הye.ra.'EhH7200among you,nor shallוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808leavenשְׂאֹ֖רse.'OrH7603be foundיֵרָאֶ֥הye.ra.'EhH7200anywhere withinבְּכָל־be.kholH3605yourbordersגְּבֻלֶֽךָ׃ge.vu.Le.khaH1366.

8And on thatהַה֖וּא לֵאמֹ֑רha.Hu' le.MorH1931 H559dayבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117you are to explainוְהִגַּדְתָּ֣ve.hi.gad.TaH5046to your sonלְבִנְךָ֔le.vin.KhaH1121, ‘This is because ofבַּעֲב֣וּרba.'a.VurH5668whatזֶ֗הZehH2088the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068didעָשָׂ֤ה'a.SahH6213for mewhen I came outבְּצֵאתִ֖יbe.tze.TiH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.’

9It shall beוְהָיָה֩ve.ha.YahH1961a signלְא֜וֹתle.'otH226for youonעַל־'al-H5921your handיָדְךָ֗ya.de.KhaH3027and a reminderוּלְזִכָּרוֹן֙u.le.zi.ka.rOnH2146on your foreheadבֵּ֣ין עֵינֶ֔יךָbein 'ei.Nei.khaH996 H5869thatלְמַ֗עַןle.Ma.'anH4616the Lawתּוֹרַ֥תto.RatH8451of the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068is to beתִּהְיֶ֛הtih.YehH1961on your lipsבְּפִ֑יךָbe.Fi.khaH6310.Forכִּ֚יkiH3588with a mightyחֲזָקָ֔הcha.za.KahH2389handבְּיָ֣דbe.YadH3027the LORDיְהֹוָ֖הYah.wehH3068brought you outהוֹצִֽאֲךָ֥ho.tzi.'a.KhaH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

10Therefore you shall keepוְשָׁמַרְתָּ֛ve.sha.mar.TaH8104אֶת־'et-H853thisהַזֹּ֖אתha.ZotH2063statuteהַחֻקָּ֥הha.chu.KahH2708at the appointed timeלְמוֹעֲדָ֑הּle.mo.'a.DahH4150yearמִיָּמִ֖יםmi.ya.MimH3117after yearיָמִֽימָה׃ סya.Mi.mahH3117.

11Andוְהָיָ֞הve.ha.YahH1961afterכִּֽי־ki-H3588the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068bringsיְבִֽאֲךָ֤ye.vi.'a.KhaH935you intoאֶל־'el-H413the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of the Canaanitesהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔יha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669and gives itוּנְתָנָ֖הּu.ne.ta.NahH5414to you,asכַּאֲשֶׁ֛רka.'a.SherH834He sworeנִשְׁבַּ֥עnish.Ba'H7650to youand your fathersוְלַֽאֲבֹתֶ֑יךָve.la.'a.vo.Tei.khaH1,

12you are to presentוְהַעֲבַרְתָּ֥ve.ha.'a.var.TaH5674to the LORDלַֽיהֹוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068the firstborn maleפֶּֽטֶר־pe.ter-H6363of everyכָל־khol-H3605wombרֶ֖חֶםRe.chemH7358.Allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the firstbornפֶּ֣טֶר׀ שֶׁ֣גֶרPe.ter She.gerH6363 H7698אֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834malesהַזְּכָרִ֖יםha.ze.kha.RimH2145of yourיִהְיֶ֥הyih.YehH1961livestockבְּהֵמָ֗הbe.he.MahH929belong tothe LORDלַיהוָֽה׃la.Yah.wehH3068.

13You must redeemתִּפְדֶּ֣הtif.DehH6299everyוְכָל־ve.kholH3605firstbornפֶּ֤טֶרPe.terH6363donkeyחֲמֹר֙cha.MorH2543with a lambבְשֶׂ֔הve.SehH7716,and ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you do notלֹ֥אlo'H3808redeem itתִפְדֶּ֖הtif.DehH6299,you are to break its neckוַעֲרַפְתּ֑וֹva.'a.raf.ToH6202.And everyוְכֹ֨לve.KholH3605firstbornבְּכ֥וֹר אָדָ֛םbe.Khor 'a.DamH1060 H120of your sonsבְּבָנֶ֖יךָbe.va.Nei.khaH1121you must redeemתִּפְדֶּֽה׃tif.DehH6299.

14וְהָיָ֞הve.ha.YahH1961In the futureמָחָ֖רma.CharH4279,whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588your sonבִנְךָ֛vin.KhaH1121asks youיִשְׁאָלְךָ֥yish.'a.le.KhaH7592, ‘Whatמַה־mah-H4100does thisזֹּ֑אתZotH2063meanלֵאמֹ֣רle.MorH559?’you are to tellוְאָמַרְתָּ֣ve.'a.mar.TaH559himאֵלָ֔יו'e.LavH413, ‘With a mightyבְּחֹ֣זֶקbe.Cho.zekH2392handיָ֗דYadH3027the LORDיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068brought us outהוֹצִיאָ֧נוּho.tzi.'A.nuH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֖יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,out of the houseמִבֵּ֥יתmi.BeitH1004of slaveryעֲבָדִֽים׃'a.va.DimH5650.

15Andוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588Pharaohפַרְעֹה֮far.'OhH6547stubbornly refusedהִקְשָׁ֣הhik.ShahH7185to let us goלְשַׁלְּחֵנוּ֒le.sha.le.che.NuH7971,the LORDיְהֹוָ֤הYah.wehH3068killedוַיַּהֲרֹ֨גvai.ya.ha.RogH2026everyכָּל־kol-H3605firstbornבְּכוֹר֙be.khOrH1060in the landבְּאֶ֣רֶץbe.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,bothמִבְּכֹ֥רmi.be.KhorH1060of manאָדָ֖ם'a.DamH120andוְעַד־ve.'ad-H5704בְּכ֣וֹרbe.KhorH1060beastבְּהֵמָ֑הbe.he.MahH929.This is whyעַל־ כֵּן֩'al- kenH5921 H3651Iאֲנִ֨י'a.NiH589sacrificeזֹבֵ֜חַzo.Ve.achH2076to the LORDלַֽיהוָ֗הla.Yah.wehH3068the firstbornפֶּ֤טֶרPe.terH6363maleהַזְּכָרִ֔יםha.ze.kha.RimH2145of everyכָּל־kol-H3605wombרֶ֙חֶם֙re.chemH7358,but I redeemאֶפְדֶּֽה׃'ef.DehH6299allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the firstbornבְּכ֥וֹרbe.KhorH1060of my sonsבָּנַ֖יba.NaiH1121.’

16So it shall serve asוְהָיָ֤הve.ha.YahH1961a signלְאוֹת֙le.'OtH226onעַל־'al-H5921your handיָ֣דְכָ֔הya.de.KhahH3027and a symbolוּלְטוֹטָפֹ֖תu.le.to.ta.FotH2903on your foreheadבֵּ֣ין עֵינֶ֑יךָbein 'ei.Nei.khaH996 H5869,forכִּ֚יkiH3588with a mightyבְּחֹ֣זֶקbe.Cho.zekH2392handיָ֔דYadH3027the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068brought us outהוֹצִיאָ֥נוּho.tzi.'A.nuH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ סmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714.”

The Pillars of Cloud and Fire

17וַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961When Pharaohפַּרְעֹה֮par.'OhH6547אֶת־'et-H853let the peopleהָעָם֒ha.'AmH5971goבְּשַׁלַּ֣חbe.sha.LachH7971,Godאֱלֹהִ֗ים'E.lo.HimH430did notוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808lead themנָחָ֣םna.ChamH5148along the roadדֶּ֚רֶךְDe.rekhH1870through the landאֶ֣רֶץ'E.retzH776of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430,thoughכִּ֥יkiH3588itה֑וּאHu'H1931was shorterקָר֖וֹבka.RovH7138.Forכִּ֣י׀kiH3588Godאֱלֹהִ֗ים פֶּֽן־'E.lo.Him pen-H430 H6435saidאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559, “If the people faceבִּרְאֹתָ֥םbir.'o.TamH7200warמִלְחָמָ֖הmil.cha.MahH4421, theyהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971might change their mindsיִנָּחֵ֥םyi.na.ChemH5162and returnוְשָׁ֥בוּve.Sha.vuH7725to Egyptמִצְרָֽיְמָה׃mitz.Ra.ye.mahH4714.”

18So Godאֱלֹהִ֧ים׀'E.lo.HimH430led the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971aroundוַיַּסֵּ֨בvai.ya.SevH5437by the wayדֶּ֥רֶךְDe.rekhH1870of the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֖רha.mid.BarH4057אֶת־'et-H853toward the Redס֑וּףSufH5488Seaיַם־yam-H3220.And the Israelitesבְנֵי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖לve.nei- Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478leftעָל֥וּ'a.LuH5927the landמֵאֶ֥רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714arrayed for battleוַחֲמֻשִׁ֛יםva.cha.mu.ShimH2571.

19Mosesמֹשֶׁ֛הmo.ShehH4872אֶת־'et-H853tookוַיִּקַּ֥חvai.yi.KachH3947the bonesעַצְמ֥וֹתatz.MotH6106of Josephיוֹסֵ֖ףyo.SefH3130with himעִמּ֑וֹi.MoH5973becauseכִּי֩kiH3588Joseph had made the sonsבְּנֵ֤יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478swear a solemn oathH7650אֶת־'et-H853when he saidלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430will surely attend toH6485youאֶתְכֶ֔ם'et.KhemH853,and then you must carryוְהַעֲלִיתֶ֧םve.ha.'a.li.TemH5927אֶת־'et-H853my bonesעַצְמֹתַ֛י'atz.mo.TaiH6106with youאִתְּכֶֽם׃'i.te.KhemH854from this placeמִזֶּ֖הmi.ZehH2088.”

20They set outוַיִּסְע֖וּvai.yis.'UH5265from Succothמִסֻּכֹּ֑תmi.su.KotH5523and campedוַיַּחֲנ֣וּvai.ya.cha.NuH2583at Ethamבְאֵתָ֔םve.'e.TamH864on the edgeבִּקְצֵ֖הbik.TzehH7097of the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּֽר׃ha.mid.BarH4057.

21And the LORDוַֽיהוָ֡הva.Yah.wehH3068wentהֹלֵךְ֩ho.leKhH1980before themלִפְנֵיהֶ֨םlif.nei.HemH6440in a pillarבְּעַמּ֤וּדbe.'a.MudH5982of cloudעָנָן֙'a.NanH6051to guideלַנְחֹתָ֣םlan.cho.TamH5148their wayהַדֶּ֔רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870by dayיוֹמָ֜םyo.MamH3119,and in a pillarבְּעַמּ֥וּדbe.'a.MudH5982of fireאֵ֖שׁ'eshH784to give them lightלְהָאִ֣ירle.ha.'IrH215by nightוְלַ֛יְלָהve.Lay.lahH3915,so that they could travelלָלֶ֖כֶתla.Le.khetH1980by dayיוֹמָ֥םyo.MamH3119or nightוָלָֽיְלָה׃va.La.ye.lahH3915.
