5And the LORDיְהוָה֮Yah.wehH3068saidH559toאֶל־'el-H413MosesH4872, “Tellאֶֽל־'el-H559H413Aaronאַהֲרֹ֗ן'a.ha.RonH175, ‘Stretch outנְטֵ֤הne.TehH5186אֶת־'et-H853your handיָדְךָ֙ya.de.KhaH3027with your staffבְּמַטֶּ֔ךָbe.ma.Te.khaH4294overH5921the riversהַ֨נְּהָרֹ֔תha.ne.ha.RotH5104H5921and canalsH2975H5921and pondsהָאֲגַמִּ֑יםha.'a.ga.MimH98,and cause the frogsH6854H5921to come up ontoוְהַ֥עַלve.Ha.'alH5927אֶת־'et-H853the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.’”
6So Aaronאַהֲרֹן֙'a.ha.RonH175אֶת־'et-H853stretched outוַיֵּ֤טvai.YetH5186his handיָד֔וֹya.DoH3027overעַ֖ל'alH5921the watersמֵימֵ֣יmei.MeiH4325of Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,and the frogsהַצְּפַרְדֵּ֔עַha.tze.far.De.a'H6854came upוַתַּ֙עַל֙va.Ta.'alH5927and coveredוַתְּכַ֖סva.te.KhasH3680אֶת־'et-H853the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.
7But the magiciansהַֽחֲרְטֻמִּ֖יםha.char.tu.MimH2748didוַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־vai.ya.'a.su-H6213the same thingכֵ֥ןkhenH3651by their magic artsבְּלָטֵיהֶ֑םbe.la.tei.HemH3909,and they also brought frogsH6854upוַיַּעֲל֥וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927אֶת־'et-H853ontoעַל־'al-H5921the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.
8PharaohH6547summonedוַיִּקְרָ֨אvai.yik.Ra'H7121MosesH4872and AaronH175and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “Prayהַעְתִּ֣ירוּha'.Ti.ruH6279toH413the LORDH3068to takeוְיָסֵר֙ve.ya.SerH5493the frogsH6854away from meמִמֶּ֖נִּיmi.Me.niH4480and my peopleוּמֵֽעַמִּ֑יu.me.'a.MiH5971.Then I will let your peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971goוַאֲשַׁלְּחָה֙va.'a.sha.le.ChahH7971אֶת־'et-H853,that they may sacrificeוְיִזְבְּח֖וּve.yiz.be.ChuH2076to the LORDH3068.”
9MosesH4872saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Pharaohלְפַרְעֹה֮le.far.'OhH6547, “You may have the honorהִתְפָּאֵ֣רhit.pa.'ErH6286over meעָלַי֒'a.LaiH5921.Whenלְמָתַ֣י׀le.ma.TaiH4970shall I prayאַעְתִּ֣יר'a'.TirH6279for youand your officialsוְלַעֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ve.la.'a.va.Dei.khaH5650and your peopleוּֽלְעַמְּךָ֔u.le.'a.me.KhaH5971that the frogsH6854(except for thoseרַ֥ק תִּשָּׁאַֽרְנָה׃rak ti.sha.'Ar.nahH7604H7535in the Nileבַּיְאֹ֖רbay.'OrH2975)may be taken awayלְהַכְרִית֙le.hakh.RitH3772fromH4480you and your housesH1004?”
10“Tomorrowלְמָחָ֑רle.ma.CharH4279,” Pharaohansweredוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559. “May it beas you sayכִּדְבָ֣רְךָ֔kid.Va.re.khaH1697,”Moses repliedוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “so thatלְמַ֣עַןle.Ma.'anH4616you may knowתֵּדַ֔עte.Da'H3045thatכִּי־ki-H3588there is no oneאֵ֖ין'einH369like the LORDכַּיהוָ֥הka.Yah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃'e.lo.Hei.nuH430.
11The frogsהַֽצְפַרְדְּעִ֗יםhatz.far.de.'ImH6854will departוְסָר֣וּve.sa.RuH5493from youמִמְּךָ֙mi.me.KhaH4480and your housesוּמִבָּ֣תֶּ֔יךָu.mib.Ba.Tei.khaH1004and your officialsוּמֵעֲבָדֶ֖יךָu.me.'a.va.Dei.khaH5650and your peopleוּמֵעַמֶּ֑ךָu.me.'a.Me.khaH5971;they will remainתִּשָּׁאַֽרְנָה׃ti.sha.'Ar.nahH7604onlyרַ֥קrakH7535in the Nileבַּיְאֹ֖רbay.'OrH2975.”
12After MosesH4872and AaronH175had leftוַיֵּצֵ֥א מֵעִ֣םvai.ye.Tze' me.'ImH3318H5973Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֑הpar.'OhH6547,MosesH4872cried out toH413the LORDH3068for helpוַיִּצְעַ֤קvai.yitz.'AkH6817עַל־'al-H5921withדְּבַ֥רde.VarH1697the frogsהַֽצְפַרְדְּעִ֖יםhatz.far.de.'ImH6854thatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834He had broughtשָׂ֥םsamH7760against Pharaohלְפַרְעֹֽה׃le.far.'OhH6547.
13And the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068didH6213as Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑הmo.ShehH4872requestedכִּדְבַ֣רkid.VarH1697,and the frogsהַֽצְפַרְדְּעִ֔יםhatz.far.de.'ImH6854inמִן־min-H4480the housesהַבָּתִּ֥ים מִן־ha.ba.Tim min-H1004H4480,the courtyardsהַחֲצֵרֹ֖ת וּמִן־ha.cha.tze.Rot u.min-H2691H4480,and the fieldsהַשָּׂדֹֽת׃ha.sa.DotH7704diedוַיָּמֻ֙תוּ֙vai.ya.Mu.tuH4191.
The Third Plague: Gnats
16Then the LORDH3068saidH559toH413MosesH4872, “TellH559H413Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175, ‘Stretch outנְטֵ֣הne.TehH5186אֶֽת־'et-H853your staffמַטְּךָ֔ma.te.KhaH4294and strikeוְהַ֖ךְve.HakhH5221אֶת־'et-H853the dustעֲפַ֣ר'a.FarH6083of the earthהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776,that it may turn intoוְהָיָ֥הve.ha.YahH1961swarms of gnatsלְכִנִּ֖םle.khi.NimH3654throughoutבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.’”
17This they didוַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־ כֵ֗ןvai.ya.'a.su- KhenH6213H3651,and when Aaronאַהֲרֹ֨ן'a.ha.RonH175H853stretched outוַיֵּט֩vai.YetH5186his handיָד֤וֹya.DoH3027with his staffבְמַטֵּ֙הוּ֙ve.ma.Te.huH4294and struckוַיַּךְ֙vai.yaKhH5221H853the dustעֲפַ֣ר'a.FarH6083of the earthהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776,gnatsהַכִּנָּ֔םha.ki.NamH3654came uponוַתְּהִי֙va.te.HiH1961manבָּאָדָ֖םba.'a.DamH120and beastוּבַבְּהֵמָ֑הu.va.be.he.MahH929.Allכָּל־kol-H3605the dustעֲפַ֥ר'a.FarH6083of the earthהָאָ֛רֶץha.'A.retzH776turned intoהָיָ֥הha.YahH1961gnatsכִנִּ֖יםkhi.NimH3654throughoutבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.
18The magiciansהַחַרְטֻמִּ֧יםha.char.tu.MimH2748triedוַיַּעֲשׂוּ־ כֵ֨ןvai.ya.'a.su- khenH6213H3651to produceלְהוֹצִ֥יאle.ho.Tzi'H3318H853gnatsהַכִּנִּ֖יםha.ki.NimH3654using their magic artsבְּלָטֵיהֶ֛םbe.la.tei.HemH3909,but they couldיָכֹ֑לוּya.Kho.luH3201notוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808.And the gnatsהַכִּנָּ֔םha.ki.NamH3654remainedH1961on manבָּאָדָ֖םba.'a.DamH120and beastוּבַבְּהֵמָֽה׃u.va.be.he.MahH929.
19“Thisהִ֑ואhi'H1931is the fingerאֶצְבַּ֥ע'etz.Ba'H676of Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430,”the magiciansהַֽחַרְטֻמִּים֙ha.char.tu.MimH2748saidוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559toאֶל־'el-H413Pharaohפַּרְעֹ֔הpar.'OhH6547.But Pharaoh’sפַּרְעֹה֙par.'OhH6547heartלֵב־lev-H3820was hardenedוַיֶּחֱזַ֤קvai.ye.che.ZakH2388,and he would notוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808listenשָׁמַ֣עsha.Ma'H8085to themאֲלֵהֶ֔ם'a.le.HemH413,just asכַּאֲשֶׁ֖רka.'a.SherH834the LORDיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068had saidדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696.
The Fourth Plague: Flies
20Then the LORDH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Get up earlyהַשְׁכֵּ֤םhash.KemH7925in the morningבַּבֹּ֙קֶר֙ba.Bo.kerH1242,and when PharaohH6547goes outהִנֵּ֖ה יוֹצֵ֣אhi.Neh yo.Tze'H2009H3318to the waterהַמָּ֑יְמָהha.Ma.ye.mahH4325,standוְהִתְיַצֵּב֙ve.hit.ya.TzevH3320before himH6440and tell himוְאָמַרְתָּ֣ve.'a.mar.TaH559thatאֵלָ֗יו'e.LavH413this is whatכֹּ֚הkohH3541the LORDH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: ‘Let My peopleעַמִּ֖י'a.MiH5971goשַׁלַּ֥חsha.LachH7971,so that they may worship Meוְיַֽעַבְדֻֽנִי׃ve.Ya.'av.Du.niH5647.
21Butכִּ֣יkiH3588ifאִם־'im-H518you will notאֵינְךָ֮'ei.ne.KhaH369let My peopleעַמִּי֒ הִנְנִי֩'a.Mi hi.NiH5971H2005goמְשַׁלֵּ֣חַme.sha.Le.achH7971אֶת־'et-H853,I will sendמַשְׁלִ֨יחַmash.Li.achH7971swarmsהֶעָרֹ֑בhe.'a.RoH6157of flies upon youand your officialsוּבַעֲבָדֶ֧יךָu.va.'a.va.Dei.khaH5650and your peopleוּֽבְעַמְּךָ֛u.ve.'a.me.KhaH5971and your housesוּבְבָתֶּ֖יךָu.ve.va.Tei.khaH1004אֶת־'et-H853.The housesבָּתֵּ֤יba.TeiH1004of the Egyptiansמִצְרַ֙יִם֙mitz.Ra.yimH4713אֶת־'et-H853and evenוְגַ֥םve.GamH1571the groundהָאֲדָמָ֖הha.'a.da.MahH127אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834where theyהֵ֥םhemH1992standwill be fullוּמָ֨לְא֜וּu.Mal.'UH4390of fliesהֶ֣עָרֹ֔ב עָלֶֽיהָ׃he.'a.Ro 'a.Lei.haH6157H5921.

24And the LORDH3068didוַיַּ֤עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213soכֵּ֔ןKenH3651.Thickכָּבֵ֔דka.VedH3515swarmsעָרֹ֣בa.RoH6157of fliespouredוַיָּבֹא֙vai.ya.Vo'H935into Pharaoh’sH6547palaceבֵּ֥יתָהBei.tahH1004and into the housesוּבֵ֣יתu.VeitH1004of his officialsעֲבָדָ֑יו'a.va.DavH5650.Throughoutוּבְכָל־u.ve.Khol-H3605Egyptמִצְרַ֛יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714the landאֶ֧רֶץ'E.retzH776was ruinedתִּשָּׁחֵ֥ת הָאָ֖רֶץti.sha.Chet ha.'A.retzH7843H776byמִפְּנֵ֥יmi.pe.NeiH6440swarmsהֶעָרֹֽב׃he.'a.RoH6157of flies.
26But MosesH4872repliedוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “It would notלֹ֤אlo'H3808be rightנָכוֹן֙na.khOnH3559to doלַעֲשׂ֣וֹתla.'a.SotH6213thatכֵּ֔ןKenH3651,becauseכִּ֚יkiH3588the sacrifices we offerנִזְבַּ֖חniz.BachH2076to the LORDH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430would be detestableתּוֹעֲבַ֣תto.'a.VatH8441to the Egyptiansמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714.Ifהֵ֣ןhenH2005we offer sacrificesנִזְבַּ֞חniz.BachH2076that areאֶת־'et-H853detestableתּוֹעֲבַ֥תto.'a.VatH8441beforeלְעֵינֵיהֶ֖םle.'ei.nei.HemH5869the Egyptiansמִצְרַ֛יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,will they notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808stone usיִסְקְלֻֽנוּ׃yis.ke.Lu.nuH5619?
27We must makeנֵלֵ֖ךְne.LekhH1980a three-dayשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת יָמִ֔יםshe.Lo.shet ya.MimH7969H3117journeyדֶּ֚רֶךְDe.rekhH1870into the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּ֑רba.mid.BarH4057and sacrificeוְזָבַ֙חְנוּ֙ve.za.Vach.nuH2076to the LORDH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430asכַּאֲשֶׁ֖רka.'a.SherH834He commands usיֹאמַ֥ר אֵלֵֽינוּ׃yo.Mar 'e.Lei.nuH559H413.”
28PharaohH6547answeredוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Iאָנֹכִ֞י'a.no.KhiH595will let you goH7971H853and sacrificeוּזְבַחְתֶּ֞םu.ze.vach.TemH2076to the LORDלַיהוָ֤הla.Yah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙'e.lo.hei.KhemH430in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּ֔רba.mid.BarH4057,butרַ֛קrakH7535you must notH3808goלָלֶ֑כֶתla.Le.khetH1980very farH7368.Now prayהַעְתִּ֖ירוּha'.Ti.ruH6279for meבַּעֲדִֽי׃ba.'a.DiH1157.”
