2So Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175toldוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559themאֲלֵהֶם֙'a.le.HemH413, “Take offפָּֽרְקוּ֙pa.re.KuH6561the goldהַזָּהָ֔בha.za.HavH2091earringsנִזְמֵ֣יniz.MeiH5141thatאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834are onבְּאָזְנֵ֣יbe.'a.ze.NeiH241your wivesנְשֵׁיכֶ֔םne.shei.KhemH802and sonsבְּנֵיכֶ֖םbe.nei.KhemH1121and daughtersוּבְנֹתֵיכֶ֑םu.ve.no.tei.KhemH1323,and bring themוְהָבִ֖יאוּve.ha.Vi.'uH935to meאֵלָֽי׃'e.LaiH413.”

4He tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947the goldfrom their handsמִיָּדָ֗םmi.ya.DamH3027,andוַיָּ֤צַרvai.Ya.tzarH6696with an engraving toolבַּחֶ֔רֶטba.Che.retH2747he fashionedוַֽיַּעֲשֵׂ֖הוּvai.ya.'a.Se.huH6213itאֹתוֹ֙'o.ToH853into a moltenמַסֵּכָ֑הma.se.KhahH4541calfעֵ֣גֶל'E.gelH5695.And they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Theseאֵ֤לֶּה'E.lehH428,O Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,are your godsאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430,whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834brought you upהֶעֱל֖וּךָhe.'e.Lu.khaH5927out of the landמֵאֶ֥רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714!”

5When Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175saw thisוַיַּ֣רְאvai.Yar'H7200,he builtוַיִּ֥בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֖חַmiz.Be.achH4196beforeלְפָנָ֑יוle.fa.NavH6440the calfand proclaimedוַיִּקְרָ֤א אַֽהֲרֹן֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔רvai.yik.Ra' 'a.ha.Ron vai.yo.MarH7121 H175 H559: “Tomorrowמָחָֽר׃ma.CharH4279shall bea feastחַ֥גchagH2282to the LORDלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068.”

6So the next dayמִֽמָּחֳרָ֔תmi.mo.cho.RatH4283they aroseוַיַּשְׁכִּ֙ימוּ֙vai.yash.Ki.muH7925,offeredוַיַּעֲל֣וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927burnt offeringsעֹלֹ֔ת'o.LotH5930,and presentedוַיַּגִּ֖שׁוּvai.ya.Gi.shuH5066peace offeringsשְׁלָמִ֑יםshe.la.MimH8002.And the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971sat downוַיֵּ֤שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427to eatלֶֽאֱכֹ֣לle.'e.KholH398and drinkוְשָׁת֔וֹve.sha.ToH8354and got upוַיָּקֻ֖מוּvai.ya.Ku.muH6965to indulge in revelryלְצַחֵֽק׃ פle.tza.ChekH6711.

7Then the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068saidוַיְדַבֵּ֥רvay.da.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑הmo.ShehH4872, “Go down at onceלֶךְ־ רֵ֕דlekh- redH1980 H3381,forכִּ֚יkiH3588your peopleעַמְּךָ֔'a.me.KhaH5971,whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you brought upהֶעֱלֵ֖יתָhe.'e.Lei.taH5927out of the landמֵאֶ֥רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714,have corrupted themselvesשִׁחֵ֣תshi.ChetH7843.

8How quickly they haveמַהֵ֗רma.HerH4118turned asideסָ֣רוּSa.ruH5493fromמִן־min-H4480the wayהַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ha.De.rekhH1870thatאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I commanded themצִוִּיתִ֔םtzi.vi.TimH6680!They have madeעָשׂ֣וּ'a.SuH6213for themselvesa moltenמַסֵּכָ֑הma.se.KhahH4541calfעֵ֖גֶל'E.gelH5695and have bowed downוַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ־vai.yish.ta.cha.vu-H7812to it.They have sacrificedוַיִּזְבְּחוּ־vai.yiz.be.chu-H2076to itand saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, ‘Theseאֵ֤לֶּה'E.lehH428,O Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,are your godsאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430,whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834brought you upהֶֽעֱל֖וּךָhe.'e.Lu.khaH5927out of the landמֵאֶ֥רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.’”

9The LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068also saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑הmo.ShehH4872, “I have seenרָאִ֙יתִי֙ra.'I.tiH7200אֶת־'et-H853thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971,and theyהֽוּא׃Hu'H1931are indeedוְהִנֵּ֥הve.hi.NehH2009a stiff-neckedקְשֵׁה־ עֹ֖רֶףke.sheh- 'O.refH7186 H6203peopleעַם־'am-H5971.

10Nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258leave Mealoneהַנִּ֣יחָהha.Ni.chahH5117,so that My angerאַפִּ֥י'a.PiH639may burnוְיִֽחַר־ve.yi.char-H2734against themand consume themוַאֲכַלֵּ֑םva.'a.kha.LemH3615.Then I will makeוְאֶֽעֱשֶׂ֥הve.'e.'e.SehH6213youאוֹתְךָ֖'ot.KhaH853into a greatגָּדֽוֹל׃ga.DolH1419nationלְג֥וֹיle.GoyH1471.”

11But Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872אֶת־'et-H853sought the favorוַיְחַ֣ל פְּנֵ֖יvay.Chal pe.NeiH2470 H6440of the LORDיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068his Godאֱלֹהָ֑יו'e.lo.HavH430,sayingוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “O LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,whyלָמָ֤הla.MahH4100does Your angerאַפְּךָ֙'a.pe.KhaH639burnיֶחֱרֶ֤הye.che.RehH2734against Your peopleבְּעַמֶּ֔ךָbe.'a.Me.khaH5971,whomאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834You broughtהוֹצֵ֙אתָ֙ho.Tze.taH3318out of the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714with greatגָּד֖וֹלga.DolH1419powerבְּכֹ֥חַbe.Kho.achH3581and a mightyחֲזָקָֽה׃cha.za.KahH2389handוּבְיָ֥דu.ve.YadH3027?

12Whyלָמָּה֩la.MahH4100should the Egyptians declareמִצְרַ֜יִםmitz.Ra.yimH559 H4713, ‘He brought them outהֽוֹצִיאָם֙ho.tzi.'AmH3318with evil intentבְּרָעָ֤הbe.ra.'AhH7451,to killלַהֲרֹ֤גla.ha.RogH2026themאֹתָם֙'o.TamH853in the mountainsבֶּֽהָרִ֔יםbe.ha.RimH2022and wipe themוּ֨לְכַלֹּתָ֔םu.le.kha.lo.TamH3615fromמֵעַ֖לme.'AlH5921the faceפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440of the earthהָֽאֲדָמָ֑הha.'a.da.MahH127’?Turnשׁ֚וּבShuvH7725from Your fierceמֵחֲר֣וֹןme.cha.RonH2740angerאַפֶּ֔ךָ'a.Pe.khaH639and relentוְהִנָּחֵ֥םve.hi.na.ChemH5162from doingעַל־'al-H5921harmהָרָעָ֖הha.ra.'AhH7451to Your peopleלְעַמֶּֽךָ׃le.'a.Me.khaH5971.

14So the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068relentedוַיִּנָּ֖חֶםvai.yi.Na.chemH5162fromעַל־'al-H5921the calamityהָ֣רָעָ֔הha.ra.'AhH7451אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He had threatenedדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696to bringלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213on His peopleלְעַמּֽוֹ׃ פle.'a.MoH5971.

15Then Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872turnedוַיִּ֜פֶןvai.Yi.fenH6437and went downוַיֵּ֤רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381מִן־min-H4480the mountainהָהָ֔רha.HarH2022with the twoוּשְׁנֵ֛יu.she.NeiH8147tabletsלֻחֹ֥תlu.ChotH3871of the Testimonyהָעֵדֻ֖תha.'e.DutH5715in his handsבְּיָד֑וֹ לֻחֹ֗תbe.ya.Do lu.ChotH3027 H3871.They were inscribedכְּתֻבִים֙ke.tu.VimH3789on bothמִשְּׁנֵ֣יmi.she.NeiH8147sidesעֶבְרֵיהֶ֔ם'ev.rei.HemH5676הֵ֥םhemH1992כְּתֻבִֽים׃ke.tu.VimH3789,frontמִזֶּ֥הmi.ZehH2088and backוּמִזֶּ֖הu.mi.ZehH2088.

16The tabletsוְהַ֨לֻּחֹ֔תve.Ha.lu.ChotH3871were the workמַעֲשֵׂ֥הma.'a.SehH4639of Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים הֵ֑מָּה'E.lo.Him He.mahH430 H1992,and the writingוְהַמִּכְתָּ֗בve.ha.mikh.TavH4385wasthe writingמִכְתַּ֤בmikh.TavH4385of Godאֱלֹהִים֙ ה֔וּא'E.lo.Him Hu'H430 H1931,engravedחָר֖וּתcha.RutH2801onעַל־'al-H5921the tabletsהַלֻּחֹֽת׃ha.lu.ChotH3871.

17When Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091אֶת־'et-H853heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֧עvai.yish.Ma'H8085the soundק֥וֹלKolH6963of the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971shoutingבְּרֵע֑וֹbe.re.'OH7452,he saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872, “The soundק֥וֹלKolH6963of warמִלְחָמָ֖הmil.cha.MahH4421isin the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶה׃Ba.ma.cha.nehH4264.”

18But Moses repliedוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559: “It is neitherאֵ֥ין'einH369the cryקוֹל֙ עֲנ֣וֹתkOl a.NotH6963 H6030of victoryגְּבוּרָ֔הge.vu.RahH1369norוְאֵ֥יןve.'EinH369the cryק֖וֹל עֲנ֣וֹתKol a.NotH6963 H6030of defeatחֲלוּשָׁ֑הcha.lu.ShahH2476;Iאָנֹכִ֖י'a.no.KhiH595hearשֹׁמֵֽעַ׃sho.Me.a'H8085the soundק֣וֹלKolH6963of singingעַנּ֔וֹתa.NotH6030!”

19וַֽיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961Asכַּאֲשֶׁ֤רka.'a.SherH834Mosesapproachedקָרַב֙ אֶל־ka.Rav 'el-H7126 H413the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264and sawוַיַּ֥רְאvai.Yar'H7200אֶת־'et-H853the calfהָעֵ֖גֶלha.'E.gelH5695and the dancingוּמְחֹלֹ֑תu.me.cho.LotH4246,heמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872burnedוַיִּֽחַר־vai.yi.char-H2734with angerאַ֣ף'afH639and threwוַיַּשְׁלֵ֤ךְvai.yash.LekhH7993the tabletsהַלֻּחֹ֔תha.lu.ChotH3871out of his handsמִיָּדָיו֙mi.ya.dovH3027אֶת־'et-H853,shatteringוַיְשַׁבֵּ֥רvay.sha.BerH7665themאֹתָ֖ם'o.TamH853at the base ofתַּ֥חַתTa.chatH8478the mountainהָהָֽר׃ha.HarH2022.

20Then he tookוַיִּקַּ֞חvai.yi.KachH3947אֶת־'et-H853the calfהָעֵ֨גֶלha.'E.gelH5695אֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834they had madeעָשׂוּ֙'a.SuH6213,burned itוַיִּשְׂרֹ֣ףvai.yis.RofH8313in the fireבָּאֵ֔שׁba.'EshH784,groundוַיִּטְחַ֖ןvai.yit.ChanH2912ittoעַ֣ד'adH5704אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834powderדָּ֑קDakH1854,and scatteredוַיִּ֙זֶר֙vai.Yi.zerH2219the powderoverעַל־'al-H5921the faceפְּנֵ֣יpe.NeiH6440of the waterהַמַּ֔יִםha.Ma.yimH4325.Then he forcedבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121the Israelitesיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478to drinkוַיַּ֖שְׁקְvai.YashkH8248itאֶת־'et-H853.

21“Whatמֶֽה־meh-H4100did thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971doעָשָׂ֥ה'a.SahH6213to you,”Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙ אֶֽל־mo.Sheh 'el-H4872 H413askedוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175, “thatכִּֽי־ki-H3588you have led themהֵבֵ֥אתָhe.Ve.taH935intoעָלָ֖יו'a.LavH5921so greatגְדֹלָֽה׃ge.do.LahH1419a sinחֲטָאָ֥הcha.ta.'AhH2401?”

22“Do notאַל־'al-H408be enragedיִ֥חַר אַ֖ףYi.char 'afH2734 H639,my lordאֲדֹנִ֑י'a.do.NiH113,”Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175repliedוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559. “Youאַתָּה֙'a.TahH859yourself knowיָדַ֣עְתָּya.Da'.taH3045אֶת־'et-H853that the peopleהָעָ֔ם כִּ֥יha.'Am kiH5971 H3588are intent on evilבְרָ֖ע הֽוּא׃ve.Ra' Hu'H7451 H1931.

23They toldוַיֹּ֣אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559me, ‘Makeעֲשֵׂה־'a.seh-H6213usgodsאֱלֹהִ֔ים'E.lo.HimH430whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834will goיֵלְכ֖וּye.le.KhuH1980before usלְפָנֵ֑ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440.As forכִּי־ki-H3588thisזֶ֣ה׀zehH2088Mosesמֹשֶׁ֣הmo.ShehH4872הָאִ֗ישׁha.'IshH376whoאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834brought us upהֶֽעֱלָ֙נוּ֙he.'e.La.nuH5927out of the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַ֔יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,we do notלֹ֥אlo'H3808knowיָדַ֖עְנוּya.Da'.nuH3045whatמֶה־meh-H4100has happenedהָ֥יָהHa.yahH1961to him!’

24So I saidוָאֹמַ֤רva.'o.MarH559to them, ‘Whoeverלְמִ֣יle.MiH4310has goldזָהָ֔בza.HavH2091,let him take it offהִתְפָּרָ֖קוּhit.pa.Ra.kuH6561,’and they gave itוַיִּתְּנוּ־vai.yi.te.nu-H5414to me.And when I threw itוָאַשְׁלִכֵ֣הוּva.'ash.li.Khe.huH7993into the fireבָאֵ֔שׁva.'EshH784,out cameוַיֵּצֵ֖אvai.ye.Tze'H3318thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088calfהָעֵ֥גֶלha.'E.gelH5695!”

25Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872אֶת־'et-H853sawוַיַּ֤רְאvai.Yar'H7200that the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971were out of controlכִּ֥י פָרֻ֖עַ ה֑וּאki fa.Ru.a' Hu'H6544 H1931 H3588,forכִּֽי־ki-H3588Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175had let them run wildפְרָעֹ֣הfe.ra.'OhH6544and become a laughingstockלְשִׁמְצָ֖הle.shim.TzahH8103to their enemiesבְּקָמֵיהֶֽם׃be.ka.mei.HemH6965.

26So Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872stoodוַיַּעֲמֹ֤דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975at the entranceבְּשַׁ֣עַרbe.Sha.'arH8179to the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whoeverמִ֥יmiH4310is for the LORDלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068,come to meאֵלָ֑י'e.LaiH413.”And allכָּל־kol-H3605the Levitesבְּנֵ֥י לֵוִֽי׃be.Nei le.ViH1121 H3878gatheredוַיֵּאָסְפ֥וּvai.ye.'a.se.FuH622around himאֵלָ֖יו'e.LavH413.
