1Then the wholeכָּל־kol-H3605congregationעֲדַ֨ת בְּנֵֽי־'a.Dat be.nei-H5712 H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֧לYis.ra.'ElH3478leftוַ֠יִּסְעוּVai.yis.'uH5265the Desertמִמִּדְבַּר־mi.mid.bar-H4057of Sinסִ֛יןsinH5512,moving from place to placeלְמַסְעֵיהֶ֖םle.mas.'ei.HemH4550asעַל־'al-H5921the LORDיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068commandedפִּ֣יpiH6310.They campedוַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙vai.ya.cha.NuH2583at Rephidimבִּרְפִידִ֔יםbir.fi.DimH7508,but there was noוְאֵ֥יןve.'EinH369waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325for the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971to drinkלִשְׁתֹּ֥תlish.TotH8354.

2So the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971contendedוַיָּ֤רֶבvai.Ya.revH7378withעִם־'im-H5973Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Giveתְּנוּ־te.nu-H5414uswaterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325to drinkוְנִשְׁתֶּ֑הve.nish.TehH8354.” “Whyמַה־mah-H4100do you contendתְּרִיבוּן֙te.ri.VunH7378with meעִמָּדִ֔י'i.ma.DiH5978?”Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872repliedוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559. “Whyמַה־mah-H4100do you testתְּנַסּ֖וּןte.na.SunH5254אֶת־'et-H853the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068?”

3But the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971thirstedוַיִּצְמָ֨אvai.yitz.Ma'H6770for waterלַמַּ֔יִםla.Ma.yimH4325thereשָׁ֤םshamH8033,and they grumbledוַיָּ֥לֶן הָעָ֖םvai.Ya.len ha.'AmH3885 H5971againstעַל־'al-H5921Mosesמֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיֹּ֗אמֶרmo.Sheh vai.Yo.merH4872 H559: “Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100זֶּה֙zehH2088have you brought usהֶעֱלִיתָ֣נוּhe.'e.li.Ta.nuH5927out of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֔יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714—to makeלְהָמִ֥יתle.ha.MitH4191usאֹתִ֛י'o.TiH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853our childrenבָּנַ֥יba.NaiH1121וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and livestockמִקְנַ֖יmik.NaiH4735die of thirstבַּצָּמָֽא׃ba.tza.Ma'H6772?”

4Then Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872cried outוַיִּצְעַ֤קvai.yitz.'AkH6817toאֶל־'el-H413the LORDיְהוָ֣ה לֵאמֹ֔רYah.weh le.MorH3068 H559, “Whatמָ֥הmahH4100should I doאֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה'e.'e.SehH6213with theseהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088peopleלָעָ֣םla.'AmH5971?A little moreע֥וֹד מְעַ֖טod me.'AtH5750 H4592and they will stone meוּסְקָלֻֽנִי׃u.se.ka.Lu.niH5619!”

5And the LORDיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Walk onעֲבֹר֙'a.VorH5674ahead ofלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971and takeוְקַ֥חve.KachH3947some of the eldersמִזִּקְנֵ֣יmi.zik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478with youאִתְּךָ֖'i.te.KhaH854.Take alongקַ֥חkachH3947in your handבְּיָדְךָ֖be.ya.de.KhaH3027the staffוּמַטְּךָ֗u.ma.te.KhaH4294with whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834you struckהִכִּ֤יתָhi.Ki.taH5221אֶת־'et-H853the Nileהַיְאֹ֔רhay.'OrH2975,and goוְהָלָֽכְתָּ׃ve.ha.La.khe.taH1980.

6Beholdהִנְנִ֣יhi.NiH2005,I will standעֹמֵד֩'o.MedH5975thereשָּׁ֥ם׀shamH8033beforeלְפָנֶ֨יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440youעַֽל־'al-H5921by the rockהַצּוּר֮ha.TzurH6697at Horebבְּחֹרֵב֒be.cho.RevH2722.And when you strikeוְהִכִּ֣יתָve.hi.Ki.taH5221the rockבַצּ֗וּרva.TzurH6697,waterמַ֖יִםMa.yimH4325will come outוְיָצְא֥וּve.ya.tze.'UH3318of itמִמֶּ֛נּוּmi.Me.nuH4480for the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971to drinkוְשָׁתָ֣הve.sha.TahH8354.”So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872didוַיַּ֤עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213thisכֵּן֙kenH3651in the sightלְעֵינֵ֖יle.'ei.NeiH5869of the eldersזִקְנֵ֥יzik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

7He namedוַיִּקְרָא֙ שֵׁ֣םvai.yik.Ra' shemH7121 H8034the placeהַמָּק֔וֹםha.ma.KomH4725Massahמַסָּ֖הma.SahH4532and Meribahוּמְרִיבָ֑הu.me.ri.VahH4809becauseעַל־'al-H5921the Israelitesבְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗לbe.Nei Yis.ra.'ElH1121 H3478quarreledרִ֣יב׀rivH7379,and becauseוְעַ֨לve.'AlH5921they testedנַסֹּתָ֤םna.so.TamH5254אֶת־'et-H853the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Isהֲיֵ֧שׁha.YeshH3426the LORDיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068among usבְּקִרְבֵּ֖נוּbe.kir.Be.nuH7130orאִם־'im-H518notאָֽיִן׃ פ'A.yinH369?”

8After this, the Amalekitesעֲמָלֵ֑ק'a.ma.LekH6002cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935and attackedוַיִּלָּ֥חֶם עִם־vai.yi.La.chem 'im-H3898 H5973the Israelitesיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478at Rephidimבִּרְפִידִֽם׃bir.fi.DimH7508.

9So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֤הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ye.ho.Shu.a'H3091, “Chooseבְּחַר־be.char-H977some of our menאֲנָשִׁ֔ים'a.na.ShimH582and go outוְצֵ֖אve.Tze'H3318to fightהִלָּחֵ֣םhi.la.ChemH3898the Amalekitesבַּעֲמָלֵ֑קba.'a.ma.LekH6002.Tomorrowמָחָ֗רma.CharH4279Iאָנֹכִ֤י'a.no.KhiH595will standנִצָּב֙ni.TzavH5324onעַל־'al-H5921the hilltopרֹ֣אשׁ הַגִּבְעָ֔הrosh ha.giv.'AhH7218 H1389with the staffוּמַטֵּ֥הu.ma.TehH4294of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430in my handבְּיָדִֽי׃be.ya.DiH3027.”

10Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091didוַיַּ֣עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213asכַּאֲשֶׁ֤רka.'a.SherH834Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872had instructedאָֽמַר־'a.mar-H559himand foughtלְהִלָּחֵ֖םle.hi.la.ChemH3898against the Amalekitesבַּעֲמָלֵ֑קba.'a.ma.LekH6002,while Mosesוּמֹשֶׁה֙u.mo.ShehH4872,Aaronאַהֲרֹ֣ן'a.ha.RonH175,and Hurוְח֔וּרve.ChurH2354went upעָל֖וּ'a.LuH5927to the topרֹ֥אשׁroshH7218of the hillהַגִּבְעָֽה׃ha.giv.'AhH1389.

11וְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961As long asכַּאֲשֶׁ֨רka.'a.SherH834Mosesמֹשֶׁ֛הmo.ShehH4872held upיָרִ֥יםya.RimH7311his handsיָד֖וֹya.DoH3027,Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478prevailedוְגָבַ֣רve.ga.VarH1396;but whenוְכַאֲשֶׁ֥רve.kha.'a.SherH834he loweredיָנִ֛יחַya.Ni.achH5117themיָד֖וֹya.DoH3027,Amalekעֲמָלֵֽק׃'a.ma.LekH6002prevailedוְגָבַ֥רve.ga.VarH1396.

12When Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872’handsוִידֵ֤יvi.DeiH3027grew heavyכְּבֵדִ֔יםke.ve.DimH3515,they tookוַיִּקְחוּ־vai.yik.chu-H3947a stoneאֶ֛בֶן'E.venH68and putוַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּvai.ya.Si.muH7760it under himתַחְתָּ֖יוtach.TavH8478,and he satוַיֵּ֣שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427on itעָלֶ֑יהָ'a.Lei.haH5921.Then Aaronוְאַהֲרֹ֨ןve.'a.ha.RonH175and Hurוְח֜וּרve.ChurH2354heldתָּֽמְכ֣וּta.me.KhuH8551his hands upבְיָדָ֗יוve.ya.DavH3027,oneמִזֶּ֤הmi.ZehH2088on eachאֶחָד֙ וּמִזֶּ֣ה'e.Chad u.mi.ZehH259 H2088sideאֶחָ֔ד'e.ChadH259,so that his handsיָדָ֛יוya.DavH3027remainedוַיְהִ֥יvay.HiH1961steadyאֱמוּנָ֖ה'e.mu.NahH530untilעַד־'ad-H5704the sunהַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ha.Sha.meshH8121went downבֹּ֥אbo'H935.

13So Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091אֶת־'et-H853overwhelmedוַיַּחֲלֹ֧שׁvai.ya.cha.LoshH2522Amalekעֲמָלֵ֥ק'a.ma.LekH6002וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and his armyעַמּ֖וֹ לְפִי־a.Mo le.fi-H5971 H6310with the swordחָֽרֶב׃ פCha.revH2719.

14Then the LORDיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Write thisכְּתֹ֨ב זֹ֤אתke.To zotH3789 H2063on a scrollבַּסֵּ֔פֶרba.Se.ferH5612as a reminderזִכָּרוֹן֙zi.ka.rOnH2146and reciteוְשִׂ֖ים בְּאָזְנֵ֣יve.Sim be.'a.ze.NeiH7760 H241it to Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588I will utterly blot outH4229אֶת־'et-H853the memoryזֵ֣כֶרZe.kherH2143of Amalekעֲמָלֵ֔ק'a.ma.LekH6002from underמִתַּ֖חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478heavenהַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ha.sha.Ma.yimH8064.”

15And Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872builtוַיִּ֥בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֑חַmiz.Be.achH4196and namedוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121itשְׁמ֖וֹshe.MoH8034The LORDיְהוָ֥ה׀Yah.wehH3068Is My Bannerנִסִּֽי׃ni.SiH5251.

16“Indeedכִּֽי־ki-H3588,”he saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “a handיָד֙yadH3027was lifted up towardעַל־'al-H5921the throneכֵּ֣סkesH3676of the LORDיָ֔הּYahH3050.The LORDלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068will warמִלְחָמָ֥הmil.cha.MahH4421against Amalekבַּֽעֲמָלֵ֑קba.'a.ma.LekH6002from generationמִדֹּ֖רmi.DorH1755to generationדֹּֽר׃ פDorH1755.”
