2Now Ahaziahאֲחַזְיָ֜ה'a.chaz.YahH274had fallenוַיִּפֹּ֨לvai.yi.PolH5307throughבְּעַ֣דbe.'AdH1157the latticeהַשְּׂבָכָ֗הha.se.va.KhahH7639of his upper roomבַּעֲלִיָּת֛וֹba.'a.li.ya.ToH5944אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834in Samariaבְּשֹׁמְר֖וֹןbe.sho.me.RonH8111and injured himselfוַיָּ֑חַלvai.Ya.chalH2470.So he sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֣חvai.yish.LachH7971messengersמַלְאָכִ֔יםmal.'a.KhimH4397and instructed themוַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙vai.Yo.mer 'a.le.HemH559H413: “Goלְכ֣וּle.KhuH1980inquireדִרְשׁ֗וּdir.ShuH1875of Baal-zebubH1176,the godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Ekronעֶקְר֔וֹןek.RonH6138,whetherאִם־'im-H518I will recoverאֶחְיֶ֖ה'ech.YehH2421from thisזֶֽה׃ סZehH2088injuryמֵחֳלִ֥יme.cho.LiH2483.”
3But the angelוּמַלְאַ֣ךְu.mal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saidדִּבֶּר֙di.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413Elijahאֵלִיָּ֣ה'e.li.YahH452the Tishbiteהַתִּשְׁבִּ֔י ק֣וּםha.tish.Bi kumH8664H6965, “Go upעֲלֵ֔ה'a.LehH5927to meetלִקְרַ֖אתlik.RatH7122the messengersמַלְאֲכֵ֣יmal.'a.KheiH4397of the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Samariaשֹׁמְר֑וֹןsho.me.RonH8111and ask themוְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵהֶ֔םve.da.Ber 'a.le.HemH1696H413, ‘Is itbecauseהַֽמִבְּלִ֤יha.mi.be.LiH1097there isnoאֵין־'ein-H369Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478that youאַתֶּם֙'a.TemH859are on your wayהֹֽלְכִ֔יםho.le.KhimH1980to inquireלִדְרֹ֕שׁlid.RoshH1875of Baal-zebubH1176,the godאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of Ekronעֶקְרֽוֹן׃ek.RonH6138?’
4Thereforeוְלָכֵן֙ve.la.KhenH3651this is whatכֹּֽה־koh-H3541the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: ‘You will notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808get upתֵרֵ֥דte.RedH3381fromמִמֶּ֖נָּה כִּ֣יmi.Me.nah kiH4480H3588the bedהַמִּטָּ֞הha.mi.TahH4296on whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you are lyingעָלִ֥יתָ שָּׁ֛ם'a.Li.ta shamH5927H8033.You will surely dieH4191.’”So Elijahאֵלִיָּֽה׃'e.li.YahH452departedוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980.
6They repliedוַיֹּאמְר֨וּvai.yo.me.RuH559אֵלָ֜יו'e.LavH413, “A manאִ֣ישׁ׀'ishH376came upעָלָ֣ה'a.LahH5927to meet usלִקְרָאתֵ֗נוּlik.ra.Te.nuH7122and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559אֵלֵינוּ֮'e.lei.NuH413, ‘Goלְכ֣וּle.KhuH1980backשׁוּבוּ֮shu.VuH7725toאֶל־'el-H413the kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834sentשָׁלַ֣חsha.LachH7971youאֶתְכֶם֒'et.KhemH853and tellוְדִבַּרְתֶּ֣םve.di.bar.TemH1696himאֵלָ֗יו'e.LavH413that this is whatכֹּ֚הkohH3541the LORDיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559:Is it becauseהַֽמִבְּלִ֤יha.mi.be.LiH1097there is noאֵין־'ein-H369Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478that you areאַתָּ֣ה'a.TahH859sendingשֹׁלֵ֔חַsho.Le.achH7971these men to inquireלִדְרֹ֕שׁlid.RoshH1875of Baal-zebubH1176,the godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Ekronעֶקְר֑וֹןek.RonH6138?Thereforeלָ֠כֵןLa.khenH3651you will notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808get upתֵרֵ֥דte.RedH3381from the bedהַמִּטָּ֞הha.mi.TahH4296on whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you are lyingעָלִ֥יתָ שָּׁ֛ם'a.Li.ta shamH5927H8033מִמֶּ֖נָּהmi.Me.nahH4480כִּֽי־ki-H3588.You will surely dieH4191.’”
7The king asked themוַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵהֶ֔םvay.da.Ber 'a.le.HemH1696H413, “Whatמֶ֚הmehH4100sortמִשְׁפַּ֣טmish.PatH4941of manהָאִ֔ישׁha.'IshH376אֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834came upעָלָ֖ה'a.LahH5927to meetלִקְרַאתְכֶ֑םlik.rat.KhemH7122you and spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696theseהָאֵֽלֶּה׃ha.'E.lehH428wordsהַדְּבָרִ֖יםha.de.va.RimH1697to youאֲלֵיכֶ֔ם'a.lei.KhemH413אֶת־'et-H853?”
8“He wasa hairyשֵׂעָ֔רse.'ArH8181manאִ֚ישׁ בַּ֣עַל'ish Ba.'alH376H1167,”they answeredוַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗יוvai.yo.me.Ru 'e.LavH559H413, “with a leatherע֖וֹר אָז֣וּרor 'a.ZurH5785H247beltוְאֵז֥וֹרve.'e.ZorH232around his waistבְּמָתְנָ֑יוbe.ma.te.NavH4975.” “Itהֽוּא׃Hu'H1931wasElijahאֵלִיָּ֥ה'e.li.YahH452the Tishbiteהַתִּשְׁבִּ֖יha.tish.BiH8664,”saidוַיֹּאמַ֕רvai.yo.MarH559the king.
9Then King Ahaziah sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971to Elijahאֵלָ֛יו'e.LavH413a captainשַׂר־sar-H8269with his company of fifty menH2572.So the captain went upוַיַּ֣עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927toאֵלָ֗יו וְהִנֵּה֙'e.Lav ve.hi.NehH413H2009Elijah,who was sittingיֹשֵׁב֙yo.ShevH3427onעַל־'al-H5921topרֹ֣אשׁroshH7218of a hillהָהָ֔רha.HarH2022,and saidוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696to himאֵלָ֔יו'e.LavH413, “Manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,the kingהַמֶּ֥לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428declaresדִּבֶּ֖רdi.BerH1696, ‘Come downרֵֽדָה׃Re.dahH3381!’”
10Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ וַיְדַבֵּר֮'e.li.Ya.hu vay.da.BerH452H1696answeredוַיַּעֲנֶ֣ה אֶל־vai.ya.'a.Neh 'el-H6030H413the captainשַׂ֣ר הַחֲמִשִּׁים֒sar ha.cha.mi.ShimH8269H2572, “Ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518Iאָ֔נִי'A.niH589am a manאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430,may fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784come downתֵּ֤רֶדTe.redH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumeוְתֹאכַ֥לve.to.KhalH398youאֹתְךָ֖'o.te.KhaH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853yourfiftyחֲמִשֶּׁ֑יךָcha.mi.Shei.khaH2572men.”And fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784came downוַתֵּ֤רֶדva.Te.redH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumedוַתֹּ֥אכַלva.To.khalH398the captainאֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853hisfifty menחֲמִשָּֽׁיו׃cha.mi.ShavH2572.
11וַיָּ֜שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725So the king sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֥חvai.yish.LachH7971to Elijahאֵלָ֛יו'e.LavH413anotherאַחֵ֖ר'a.CherH312captainשַׂר־ חֲמִשִּׁ֥יםsar- cha.mi.ShimH8269H2572with hisfiftyוַחֲמִשָּׁ֑יוva.cha.mi.ShavH2572men.Andוַיַּ֙עַן֙vai.Ya.'anH6030the captainsaidוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696toאֵלָ֔יו'e.LavH413Elijah, “Manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430כֹּֽה־koh-H3541,the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428declaresאָמַ֥ר'a.MarH559, ‘Come downרֵֽדָה׃Re.dahH3381at onceמְהֵרָ֥הme.he.RahH4120!’”
12Again Elijahאֵלִיָּה֮ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵיהֶם֒'e.li.Yah vay.da.Ber 'a.lei.HemH452H1696H413repliedוַיַּ֣עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030, “Ifאִם־'im-H518Iאָ֔נִי'A.niH589am a manאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430,may fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784come downתֵּ֤רֶדTe.redH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumeוְתֹאכַ֥לve.to.KhalH398youאֹתְךָ֖'o.te.KhaH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853yourfiftyחֲמִשֶּׁ֑יךָcha.mi.Shei.khaH2572men.”And the fireאֵשׁ־'esh-H784of Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430came downוַתֵּ֤רֶדva.Te.redH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumedוַתֹּ֥אכַלva.To.khalH398the captainאֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH853andוְאֶת־ve.'EtH853hisfifty menחֲמִשָּֽׁיו׃cha.mi.ShavH2572.
13Soוַיָּ֗שָׁבvai.Ya.shovH7725the king sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֛חvai.yish.LachH7971a thirdשְׁלִשִׁ֖יםshe.li.ShimH7992captainשַׂר־sar-H8269with his fifty menחֲמִשִּׁ֥יםcha.mi.ShimH2572.And the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֜יha.she.li.ShiH7992captainשַׂר־sar-H8269וַחֲמִשָּׁ֑יוva.cha.mi.ShavH2572הַחֲמִשִּׁ֨יםha.cha.mi.ShimH2572went upוַיַּ֡עַל וַיָּבֹא֩vai.Ya.'al vai.ya.Vo'H5927H935,fellוַיִּכְרַ֥עvai.yikh.Ra'H3766onעַל־'al-H5921his kneesבִּרְכָּ֣יו׀bir.KavH1290beforeלְנֶ֣גֶדle.Ne.gedH5048Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452,and begged himוַיִּתְחַנֵּ֤ן וַיְדַבֵּ֣רvai.yit.cha.Nen vay.da.BerH2603H413H1696, “Manאִ֚ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,may my lifeנַפְשִׁ֗יnaf.ShiH5315and the livesוְנֶ֨פֶשׁve.Ne.feshH5315of theseאֵ֛לֶּה'E.lehH428fiftyחֲמִשִּׁ֖יםcha.mi.ShimH2572servants of yoursעֲבָדֶ֥יךָֽ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650pleaseנָ֣אna'H4994be preciousתִּֽיקַר־ti.kar-H3365in your sightבְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃be.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.
14Beholdהִ֠נֵּהHi.nehH2009,fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784has come downיָ֤רְדָהYa.re.dahH3381fromמִן־min-H4480heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumedוַ֠תֹּאכַלVa.to.khalH398אֶת־'et-H853the firstהָרִאשֹׁנִ֖יםha.ri.sho.NimH7223וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853twoשְׁנֵ֞יshe.NeiH8147captainsשָׂרֵ֧יsa.ReiH8269of fiftyהַחֲמִשִּׁ֛יםha.cha.mi.ShimH2572,with all their menחֲמִשֵּׁיהֶ֑םcha.mi.shei.HemH2572.But nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258may my lifeנַפְשִׁ֖יnaf.ShiH5315be preciousתִּיקַ֥רti.KarH3365in your sightבְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ סbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.”
15Then the angelמַלְאַ֤ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיְדַבֵּ֞רvay.da.BerH1696toאֶל־'el-H413Elijahאֵ֣לִיָּ֔הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452, “Go downרֵ֣דredH3381with himאוֹת֔וֹ'o.ToH854.Do notאַל־'al-H408be afraidתִּירָ֖אti.Ra'H3372of himמִפָּנָ֑יוmi.pa.NavH6440.”So Elijah got upוַיָּ֛קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and went downוַיֵּ֥רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381with himאוֹת֖וֹ'o.ToH854toאֶל־'el-H413the kingהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428.
16And Elijah saidוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696to King Ahaziahאֵלָ֜יו'e.LavH413, “This is whatכֹּֽה־koh-H3541the LORDיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559:Is there really noהַֽמִבְּלִ֤י אֵין־ha.mi.be.Li 'ein-H1097H369Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478for you to inquireלִדְרֹשׁ֮lid.RoshH1875of His wordבִּדְבָר֑וֹbid.va.RoH1697?Is that whyיַ֜עַןYa.'anH3282אֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you have sentשָׁלַ֣חְתָּsha.Lach.taH7971messengersמַלְאָכִים֮mal.'a.KhimH4397to inquireלִדְרֹ֖שׁlid.RoshH1875of Baal-zebubH1176,the godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430of Ekronעֶקְרוֹן֒'ek.rOnH6138?Thereforeלָ֠כֵןLa.khenH3651you will notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808get up fromתֵרֵ֥דte.RedH3381the bedהַמִּטָּ֞הha.mi.TahH4296on whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you are lyingעָלִ֥יתָ שָּׁ֛ם'a.Li.ta shamH5927H8033מִמֶּ֖נָּהmi.Me.nahH4480כִּֽי־ki-H3588.You will surely dieH4191.”
Jehoram Succeeds Ahaziah
17So Ahaziah diedוַיָּ֜מָתvai.Ya.motH4191according to the wordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of the LORDיְהוָ֣ה׀Yah.wehH3068thatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Elijahאֵלִיָּ֗הוּ'e.li.Ya.huH452had spokenדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696.And sinceכִּ֛יkiH3588he hadהָ֥יָהHa.yahH1961noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808sonבֶּן־ben-H1121,Jehoramיְהוֹרָם֙ye.ho.RamH3088succeeded himוַיִּמְלֹ֤ךְvai.yim.LokhH4427תַּחְתָּ֔יו פtach.TavH8478in the secondשְׁתַּ֔יִםshe.Ta.yimH8147yearבִּשְׁנַ֣תbish.NatH8141of the reignמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Jehoramלִיהוֹרָ֥םli.ho.RamH3088sonבֵּֽן׃BenH1121of Jehoshaphatיְהוֹשָׁפָ֖טye.ho.sha.FatH3092over Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063.
