1Then the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֨רvay.da.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872, “Departלֵ֣ךְlekhH1980,goעֲלֵ֣ה'a.LehH5927up from hereמִזֶּ֔הmi.ZehH2088,you and the peopleוְהָעָ֔םve.ha.'AmH5971whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you have broughtהֶֽעֱלִ֖יתָhe.'e.Li.taH5927up from the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,to the landהָאָ֗רֶץha.'A.retzH776of whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I sworeנִ֠שְׁבַּעְתִּיNish.ba'.tiH7650to Abrahamלְאַבְרָהָ֨םle.'av.ra.HamH85,Isaacלְיִצְחָ֤קle.yitz.ChakH3327, andJacobוּֽלְיַעֲקֹב֙u.le.ya.'a.KoH3290,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘To yourdescendantsלְזַרְעֲךָ֖le.zar.'a.KhaH2233I will giveאֶתְּנֶֽנָּה׃'et.te.Ne.nahH5414it.’

2I will sendוְשָׁלַחְתִּ֥יve.sha.lach.TiH7971an angelמַלְאָ֑ךְmal.'AkhH4397beforeלְפָנֶ֖יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you andI will driveוְגֵֽרַשְׁתִּ֗יve.ge.rash.TiH1644out the Canaaniteהַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ha.ke.na.'a.NiH3669,the Amoriteהָֽאֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567,the Hittiteוְהַֽחִתִּי֙ve.ha.chi.TiH2850,the Perizziteוְהַפְּרִזִּ֔יve.hap.pe.ri.ZiH6522,the Hiviteהַחִוִּ֖יha.chi.ViH2340and the Jebusiteוְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃ve.hay.vu.SiH2983.

3Go upto a landאֶ֛רֶץ'E.retzH776flowingזָבַ֥תza.VatH2100with milkחָלָ֖בcha.LavH2461and honeyוּדְבָ֑שׁu.de.VashH1706;for I will not goאֶֽעֱלֶ֜ה'e.'e.LehH5927up in your midstבְּקִרְבְּךָ֗be.kir.be.ChaH7130,becauseH3588you arean obstinateקְשֵׁה־ עֹ֙רֶף֙ke.sheh- 'o.refH7186 H6203peopleעַם־'am-H5971, andI mightפֶּן־pen-H6435destroyאֲכֶלְךָ֖'a.khel.KhaH3615you on the wayבַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃ba.Da.rekhH1870.”

4When the peopleהָעָ֗םha.'AmH5971heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088sadהָרָ֛עha.Ra'H7451wordהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697,they wentH56into mourningוַיִּתְאַבָּ֑לוּvai.yit.'a.Ba.luH56,and noneוְלֹא־ אִ֥ישׁve.lo'- 'ishH3808 H376of them putשָׁ֛תוּSha.tuH7896on his ornamentsעֶדְי֖וֹed.YoH5716.

5For the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068had saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Sayאֱמֹ֤ר'e.MorH559to the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478, ‘You arean obstinateקְשֵׁה־ עֹ֔רֶףke.sheh- 'O.refH7186 H6203peopleעַם־'am-H5971;should I goאֶֽעֱלֶ֥ה'e.'e.LehH5927up in your midstבְקִרְבְּךָ֖ve.kir.be.ChaH7130for oneאֶחָ֛ד'e.ChadH259momentרֶ֧גַעRe.ga'H7281,I would destroyוְכִלִּיתִ֑יךָve.khi.li.Ti.khaH3615you. Nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258therefore, putH3381offH3381your ornamentsעֶדְיְךָ֙'ed.ye.KhaH5716from you, that I may knowוְאֵדְעָ֖הve.'e.de.'AhH3045whatמָ֥הmahH4100I shall doאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־'e.'e.seh-H6213with you.’”

6So the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֛לYis.ra.'ElH3478strippedוַיִּֽתְנַצְּל֧וּvai.yit.na.tze.LuH5337themselves of their ornamentsעֶדְיָ֖ם'ed.YamH5716,from Mountמֵהַ֥רme.HarH2022Horebחוֹרֵֽב׃cho.RevH2722onward.

7Now Mosesוּמֹשֶׁה֩u.mo.ShehH4872used to takeיִקַּ֨חyi.KachH3947the tentהָאֹ֜הֶלha.'O.helH168and pitchוְנָֽטָה־ve.na.tah-H5186it outsideמִח֣וּץmi.ChutzH4480 H2351the campלַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗הla.ma.cha.NehH4264,a goodH7368distanceהַרְחֵק֙har.ChekH7368from the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264,and he calledוְקָ֥רָאve.Ka.ra'H7121it the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֑דmo.'EdH4150. Andeveryoneכָּל־kol-H3605who soughtמְבַקֵּ֣שׁme.va.KeshH1245the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068would goיֵצֵא֙ye.Tze'H3318out to the tentאֹ֣הֶל'O.helH168of meetingמוֹעֵ֔דmo.'EdH4150whichאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834was outsideמִח֥וּץmi.ChutzH4480 H2351the campלַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃La.ma.cha.NehH4264.

8And it cameוְהָיָ֗הve.ha.YahH1961about, whenever Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872wentכְּצֵ֤אתke.TzetH3318out to the tentהָאֹ֔הֶלha.'O.helH168,that allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971would ariseיָק֙וּמוּ֙ya.Ku.muH6965and standוְנִ֨צְּב֔וּve.Ni.tze.VuH5324,eachאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376at the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607of his tentאָהֳל֑וֹ'o.ho.LoH168,and gazeוְהִבִּ֙יטוּ֙ve.hi.Bi.tuH5027afterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872untilעַד־'ad-H5704he enteredבֹּא֖וֹbo.'OH935the tentהָאֹֽהֱלָה׃ha.'O.he.lahH168.

9Whenever Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872enteredכְּבֹ֤אke.Vo'H935the tentהָאֹ֔הֱלָהha.'O.he.lahH168,the pillarעַמּ֣וּד'a.MudH5982of cloudהֶֽעָנָ֔ןhe.'a.NanH6051would descendיֵרֵד֙ye.RedH3381and standוְעָמַ֖דve.'a.MadH5975at the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607of the tentהָאֹ֑הֶלha.'O.helH168; and the Lordwould speakוְדִבֶּ֖רve.di.BerH1696with Mosesמֹשֶֽׁה׃mo.ShehH4872.

10When allכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971sawוְרָאָ֤הve.ra.'AhH7200the pillarעַמּ֣וּד'a.MudH5982of cloudהֶֽעָנָ֔ןhe.'a.NanH6051standingעֹמֵ֖ד'o.MedH5975at the entranceפֶּ֣תַחPe.tachH6607of the tentהָאֹ֑הֶלha.'O.helH168,allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971would ariseוְקָ֤םve.KamH6965and worshipוְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֔וּve.hish.ta.cha.VuH7812,eachאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376at the entranceפֶּ֥תַחPe.tachH6607of his tentאָהֳלֽוֹ׃'o.ho.LoH168.

11Thusthe Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068used to speakוְדִבֶּ֨רve.di.BerH1696to Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872faceפָּנִ֣יםpa.NimH6440to faceפָּנִ֔יםpa.NimH6440,justH3512as a manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376speaksיְדַבֵּ֥רye.da.BerH1696to his friendרֵעֵ֑הוּre.'E.huH7453. WhenMoses returnedוְשָׁב֙ve.ShavH7725to the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264,his servantוּמְשָׁ֨רְת֜וֹu.me.Sha.re.ToH8334Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091,the sonבִּן־bin-H1121of Nunנוּן֙nunH5126,a youngנַ֔עַרNa.'arH5288manH5288,would not departיָמִ֖ישׁya.MishH4185from the tentהָאֹֽהֶל׃ סha.'O.helH168.

Moses Intercedes

12Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֜הmo.ShehH4872saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068, “Seeרְ֠אֵהRe.'ehH7200,You sayאֹמֵ֤ר'o.MerH559to me, ‘Bringהַ֚עַלHa.'alH5927up thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971!’But You YourselfH859have not let me knowהֽוֹדַעְתַּ֔נִיho.da'.Ta.niH3045whomאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834You will sendתִּשְׁלַ֖חtish.LachH7971with me.Moreover, You have saidאָמַ֙רְתָּ֙'a.Mar.taH559, ‘I have knownיְדַעְתִּ֣יךָֽye.da'.Ti.khaH3045you by nameבְשֵׁ֔םve.ShemH8034,and you have alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571foundמָצָ֥אתָma.Tza.taH4672favorחֵ֖ןchenH2580in My sightבְּעֵינָֽי׃be.'ei.NaiH5869.’

13Nowוְעַתָּ֡הve.'a.TahH6258therefore, I prayH4994You, ifאִם־'im-H518I have foundמָצָ֨אתִיma.Tza.tiH4672favorחֵ֜ןchenH2580in Your sightבְּעֵינֶ֗יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,let me knowהוֹדִעֵ֤נִיho.di.'E.niH3045Your waysדְּרָכֶ֔ךָde.ra.Khe.khaH1870that I may knowוְאֵדָ֣עֲךָ֔ve.'e.Da.'a.khaH3045You, soלְמַ֥עַןle.Ma.'anH4616that I may findאֶמְצָא־'em.tza'-H4672favorחֵ֖ןchenH2580in Your sightבְּעֵינֶ֑יךָbe.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.Considerוּרְאֵ֕הu.re.'EhH7200too, that thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088nationהַגּ֥וֹיha.GoyH1471is Your peopleעַמְּךָ֖'a.me.KhaH5971.”

14And He saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “My presenceפָּנַ֥יpa.NaiH6440shall goיֵלֵ֖כוּye.Le.khuH1980with you, andI will giveוַהֲנִחֹ֥תִיva.ha.ni.Cho.tiH5117you restH5117.”

15Then he saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Him, “Ifאִם־'im-H518Your presenceפָּנֶ֙יךָ֙pa.Nei.khaH6440does not goהֹלְכִ֔יםho.le.KhimH1980with us,do not leadתַּעֲלֵ֖נוּta.'a.Le.nuH5927us up from hereמִזֶּֽה׃mi.ZehH2088.

16For howוּבַמֶּ֣ה׀u.va.MehH4100thenאֵפ֗וֹא'e.Fo'H645can it be knownיִוָּדַ֣עyi.va.Da'H3045that I have foundמָצָ֨אתִיma.Tza.tiH4672favorחֵ֤ןchenH2580in Your sightבְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙be.'ei.Nei.khaH5869,I and Your peopleוְעַמֶּ֔ךָve.'a.Me.khaH5971?Is it not by Your goingבְּלֶכְתְּךָ֣be.lekh.te.KhaH1980with us, so thatwe, I and Your peopleוְעַמְּךָ֔ve.'a.me.KhaH5971,may be distinguishedוְנִפְלֵ֙ינוּ֙ve.nif.Lei.nuH6395from allמִכָּ֨ל־mi.kolH3605the otherpeopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834are upon the faceפְּנֵ֥יpe.NeiH6440of theearthהָאֲדָמָֽה׃ פha.'a.da.MahH127?”

17The Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872, “I will alsoגַּ֣םgamH1571doאֶֽעֱשֶׂ֑ה'e.'e.SehH6213thisהַזֶּ֛הha.ZehH2088thingהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697of whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you have spokenדִּבַּ֖רְתָּdi.Bar.taH1696;for you have foundמָצָ֤אתָma.Tza.taH4672favorחֵן֙chenH2580in My sightבְּעֵינַ֔יbe.'ei.NaiH5869and I have knownוָאֵדָעֲךָ֖va.'e.da.'a.KhaH3045you by nameבְּשֵֽׁם׃be.ShemH8034.”

18ThenMoses saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “I prayנָ֖אna'H4994You, showהַרְאֵ֥נִיhar.'E.niH7200me Your gloryכְּבֹדֶֽךָ׃ke.vo.De.khaH3519!”

19And He saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I Myselfאֲנִ֨י'a.NiH589will make allכָּל־kol-H3605My goodnessטוּבִי֙tu.ViH2898passאַעֲבִ֤יר'a.'a.VirH5674beforeעַל־ פָּנֶ֔יךָ'al- pa.Nei.khaH5921 H6440you, and will proclaimוְקָרָ֧אתִֽיve.ka.Ra.tiH7121the nameבְשֵׁ֛םve.ShemH8034of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068beforeלְפָנֶ֑יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you; andI will be graciousוְחַנֹּתִי֙ve.cha.no.TiH2603to whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I will be graciousאָחֹ֔ן'a.ChonH2603,and will showH7355compassionוְרִחַמְתִּ֖יve.ri.cham.TiH7355on whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I will showH7355compassionאֲרַחֵֽם׃'a.ra.ChemH7355.”

20But He saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “You cannotלֹ֥א תוּכַ֖לlo' tu.KhalH3201 H3808seeלִרְאֹ֣תlir.'OtH7200My faceפָּנָ֑יpa.NaiH6440,for noלֹֽא־lo'-H3808manהָאָדָ֖םha.'a.DamH120can seeיִרְאַ֥נִיyir.'A.niH7200Me and liveוָחָֽי׃va.ChaiH2421!”

21Then the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,there is a placeמָק֖וֹםma.KomH4725by Me, andyou shall standוְנִצַּבְתָּ֖ve.ni.tzav.TaH5324thereon the rockהַצּֽוּר׃ha.TzurH6697;

22and it will comeוְהָיָה֙ve.ha.YahH1961about, while My gloryכְּבֹדִ֔יke.vo.DiH3519is passingבַּעֲבֹ֣רba.'a.VorH5674by, that I will putוְשַׂמְתִּ֖יךָve.sam.Ti.khaH7760you in the cleftבְּנִקְרַ֣תbe.nik.RatH5366of the rockהַצּ֑וּרha.TzurH6697andcoverH7917you with My handכַפִּ֛יkha.PiH3709untilעַד־'ad-H5704I have passedעָבְרִֽי׃'a.ve.RiH5674by.

23Then I will takeH5493My handכַּפִּ֔יka.PiH3709awayH5493and you shall seeוְרָאִ֖יתָve.ra.'I.taH7200My backאֲחֹרָ֑י'a.cho.RaiH268, butMy faceוּפָנַ֖יu.fa.NaiH6440shall not be seenיֵרָאֽוּ׃ סye.ra.'UH7200.”
