Moses Comforts the People

(Deuteronomy 5:22–33; Hebrews 12:18–29)

19“Speakדַּבֵּר־da.ber-H1696to usעִמָּ֖נוּ'i.Ma.nuH5973yourselfאַתָּ֥ה'a.TahH859and we will listenוְנִשְׁמָ֑עָהve.nish.Ma.'ahH8085,”they saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559toאֶל־'el-H413Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872. “But do notוְאַל־ve.'al-H408let Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430speakיְדַבֵּ֥רye.da.BerH1696to usעִמָּ֛נוּ'i.Ma.nuH5973,orפֶּן־pen-H6435we will dieנָמֽוּת׃na.MutH4191.”

Idolatry Forbidden

25Now ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you makeתַּֽעֲשֶׂה־ta.'a.seh-H6213an altarמִזְבַּ֤חmiz.BachH4196of stonesאֲבָנִים֙'a.va.NimH68for Me,you must notלֹֽא־lo'-H3808buildתִבְנֶ֥הtiv.NehH1129itאֶתְהֶ֖ן'et.HenH853with stones shaped by toolsגָּזִ֑יתga.ZitH1496;for ifכִּ֧יkiH3588you useהֵנַ֥פְתָּhe.Naf.taH5130a chiselחַרְבְּךָ֛char.be.KhaH2719on itעָלֶ֖יהָ'a.Lei.haH5921,you will defile itוַתְּחַֽלְלֶֽהָ׃va.te.Cha.Le.haH2490.

26And you must notוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808go upתַעֲלֶ֥הta.'a.LehH5927toעַֽל־'al-H5921My altarמִזְבְּחִ֑יmiz.be.ChiH4196on stepsבְמַעֲלֹ֖תve.ma.'a.LotH4609,lestאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834לֹֽא־lo'-H3808your nakednessעֶרְוָתְךָ֖'er.va.te.KhaH6172be exposedתִגָּלֶ֥הti.ga.LehH1540on itעָלָֽיו׃ פ'a.LavH5921.’
