25And whenG5613 they had tied him up with the thongs, PaulG3972 saidG3004 unto the centurionG1543 that stoodG2476 by, Is it lawfulG1832 for you to scourge a manG444 that is a RomanG4514, and uncondemnedG178? 26And when the centurionG1543 heardG191 it, he went to the chief captain and toldG3004 him, sayingG3004, What art thou about to do? for this manG444 isG1510 a RomanG4514. 27And the chief captain cameG4334 and saidG3004 unto him, TellG3004 me, art thou a RomanG4514? And he saidG3004, Yea. 28And the chief captain answeredG611, With a greatG4183 sumG2774 obtained I this citizenship. And PaulG3972 saidG5346, But I am a Roman bornG1080. 29They then that wereG1510 about to examine him straightway departedG868 from him: and the chief captain alsoG2532 wasG1510 afraidG5399 when he knewG1921 that he wasG1510 a RomanG4514, and because he had boundG1210 him.
30But on the morrow, desiring to knowG1097 the certainty wherefore he was accusedG2723 of the JewsG2453, he loosedG3089 him, and commandedG2753 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and all the councilG4892 to comeG4905 togetherG4905, and broughtG2609 PaulG3972 downG2609 and setG2476 him before them.
