1 Samuel 31
1Now the PhilistinesH6430 foughtH3898 against IsraelH3478: and the menH376 of IsraelH3478 fledH5127 from before the PhilistinesH6430, and fellH5307 downH5307 slainH2491 in mount GilboaH1533. 2And the PhilistinesH6430 followed hard upon SaulH7586 and upon his sonsH1121; and the PhilistinesH6430 slew JonathanH3083, and AbinadabH41, and Malchi-shuaH4444, the sonsH1121 of SaulH7586. 3And the battleH4421 went sore against SaulH7586, and the archersH3384 overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archersH3384. 4Then saidH559 SaulH7586 to his armorbearer, DrawH8025 thy swordH2719, and thrust me through therewith, lestH6435 these uncircumcisedH6189 comeH935 and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armorbearer wouldH14 not; for he was sore afraidH3372. Therefore SaulH7586 tookH3947 his swordH2719, and fellH5307 upon it. 5And when his armorbearer sawH7200 that SaulH7586 was deadH4191, he likewise fellH5307 upon his swordH2719, and diedH4191 with him. 6So SaulH7586 diedH4191, and his threeH7969 sonsH1121, and his armorbearer, and all his menH376, that same dayH3117 togetherH3162.
7And when the menH376 of IsraelH3478 that were on the otherH5676 sideH5676 of the valleyH6010, and they that were beyond the JordanH3383, sawH7200 that the menH376 of IsraelH3478 fledH5127, and that SaulH7586 and his sonsH1121 were deadH4191, they forsook the citiesH5892, and fledH5127; and the PhilistinesH6430 cameH935 and dweltH3427 in them. 8And it cameH935 to pass on the morrow, when the PhilistinesH6430 cameH935 to stripH6584 the slainH2491, that they foundH4672 SaulH7586 and his threeH7969 sonsH1121 fallenH5307 in mount GilboaH1533. 9And they cutH3772 off his headH7218, and strippedH6584 off his armorH3627, and sentH7971 into the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430 roundH5439 about, to carry the tidings unto the houseH1004 of their idolsH6091, and to the peopleH5971. 10And they putH7760 his armorH3627 in the houseH1004 of the AshtarothH6252; and they fastened his body to the wallH2346 of Beth-shanH1052. 11And whenH834 the inhabitantsH3427 of Jabesh-gilead heardH8085 concerningH413 him that which the PhilistinesH6430 had done to SaulH7586, 12all the valiant menH376 aroseH6965, and wentH935 all nightH3915, and tookH3947 the body of SaulH7586 and the bodiesH1472 of his sonsH1121 from the wallH2346 of Beth-shanH1052; and they cameH935 to JabeshH3003, and burnt them there. 13And they tookH3947 their bonesH6106, and buriedH6912 them under the tamarisk-tree in JabeshH3003, and fastedH6684 sevenH7651 daysH3117.
