1 Samuel 9

1Now there was a manH376 of Benjamin, whose nameH8034 was KishH7027, the sonH1121 of AbielH22, the sonH1121 of Zeror, the sonH1121 of Becorath, the sonH1121 of Aphiah, the sonH1121 of a Benjamite, a mightyH1368 manH376 of valor. 2And he had a sonH1121, whose nameH8034 was SaulH7586, a youngH1121 manH376 and a goodly: and there was not among the children of IsraelH3478 a goodlier personH376 than he: from his shouldersH7926 and upwardH4605 he was higher than any of the peopleH5971. 3And the asses of KishH7027, Saul’s fatherH1, were lost. And KishH7027 saidH559 to SaulH7586 his sonH1121, TakeH3947 now oneH259 of the servantsH5288 with thee, and ariseH6965, go seekH1245 the asses. 4And he passedH5674 through the hill-country of EphraimH669, and passedH5674 through the landH776 of Shalishah, but they foundH4672 them not: then they passedH5674 through the landH776 of Shaalim, and there they were not: and he passedH5674 through the landH776 of the Benjamites, but they foundH4672 them not.

5WhenH834 they were comeH935 to the landH776 of ZuphH6689, SaulH7586 saidH559 to his servantH5288 that was with him, ComeH935, and let us returnH7725, lestH6435 my fatherH1 leave off caring for the asses, and be anxiousH1672 for us. 6And he saidH559 unto him, Behold nowH6258, there is in this cityH5892 a manH376 of GodH430, and he is a manH376 that is held in honorH3513; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: nowH6258 let us goH1980 thither; peradventure he can tellH5046 us concerning our journeyH1870 whereon we goH1980. 7Then saidH559 SaulH7586 to his servantH5288, But, behold, if we goH935, what shall we bringH935 the manH376? for the breadH3899 is spent in our vesselsH3627, and there is not a present to bringH935 to the manH376 of GodH430: what have we? 8And the servantH5288 answered SaulH7586 again, and saidH559, Behold, I have in my handH3027 the fourthH7253 part of a shekelH8255 of silverH3701: that will I giveH5414 to the manH376 of GodH430, to tellH5046 us our wayH1870. 9(Beforetime in IsraelH3478, when a manH376 went to inquire of GodH430, thusH3541 he saidH559, Come, and let us go to the seer; for he that is now calledH7121 a ProphetH5030 was beforetime calledH7121 a Seer.) 10Then saidH559 SaulH7586 to his servantH5288, Well saidH559; come, let us go. So they went unto the cityH5892 whereH834 the manH376 of GodH430 was.

11As they wentH3318 up the ascentH4608 to the cityH5892, they foundH4672 youngH5291 maidens goingH3318 out to drawH7579 waterH4325, and saidH559 unto them, Is the seer hereH2088? 12And they answered them, and saidH559, He is; behold, he is before thee: makeH4116 hasteH4116 nowH6258, for he is comeH935 to-day into the cityH5892; for the peopleH5971 have a sacrificeH2077 to-day in the highH1116 placeH1116. 13As soon as ye are comeH935 into the cityH5892, ye shall straightway findH4672 him, before he goeth up to the highH1116 placeH1116 to eatH398; for the peopleH5971 will not eatH398 until he comeH935, because he doth blessH1288 the sacrificeH2077; and afterwards they eatH398 that are bidden. NowH6258 thereforeH3651 get you up; for at this time ye shall findH4672 him. 14And they wentH3318 up to the cityH5892; and as they cameH935 within the cityH5892, behold, SamuelH8050 cameH935 out toward them, to goH3318 up to the highH1116 placeH1116.

15Now Jehovah had revealedH1540 unto SamuelH8050 a dayH3117 before SaulH7586 cameH935, sayingH559, 16To-morrow about this timeH6256 I will sendH7971 thee a manH376 out of the landH776 of BenjaminH1144, and thou shalt anointH4886 him to be princeH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478; and he shall saveH3467 my peopleH5971 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430: for I have lookedH7200 upon my peopleH5971, because their cryH6818 is comeH935 unto me. 17And whenH834 SamuelH8050 sawH7200 SaulH7586, Jehovah saidH559 unto him, Behold, the manH376 of whom I spake to thee! this same shall have authority over my peopleH5971. 18Then SaulH7586 drewH5066 near to SamuelH8050 in the gateH8179, and saidH559, TellH5046 me, I pray thee, whereH335 the seer’s houseH1004 is. 19And SamuelH8050 answered SaulH7586, and saidH559, I am the seer; goH5927 up before me unto the highH1116 placeH1116, for ye shall eatH398 with me to-day: and in the morningH1242 I will let thee goH5927, and will tellH5046 thee all that is in thy heartH3824. 20And as for thine asses that were lost threeH7969 daysH3117 ago, setH7760 not thy mind on them; for they are foundH4672. And for whom is all that is desirable in IsraelH3478? Is it not for thee, and for all thy father’sH1 houseH1004? 21And SaulH7586 answered and saidH559, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478? and my familyH4940 the least of all the familiesH4940 of the tribeH7626 of BenjaminH1144? wherefore then speakest thou to me after this mannerH1697?

22And SamuelH8050 tookH3947 SaulH7586 and his servantH5288, and broughtH935 them into the guest-chamber, and madeH5414 them sit in the chiefest placeH4725 among them that were bidden, who were about thirtyH7970 personsH376. 23And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto the cookH2876, Bring the portionH4490 which I gaveH5414 thee, of which I saidH559 unto thee, SetH7760 it by thee. 24And the cookH2876 took up the thighH7785, and that which was upon it, and setH7760 it before SaulH7586. And SamuelH8050 saidH559, Behold, that which hath been reserved! setH7760 it before thee and eatH398; because unto the appointedH4150 time hath it been keptH8104 for thee, for I saidH559, I have invited the peopleH5971. So SaulH7586 did eatH398 with SamuelH8050 that dayH3117.

25And when they were comeH3381 down from the highH1116 placeH1116 into the cityH5892, he communed with SaulH7586 upon the housetop. 26And they aroseH6965 earlyH7925: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that SamuelH8050 calledH7121 to SaulH7586 on the housetop, sayingH559, Up, that I may sendH7971 thee awayH7971. And SaulH7586 aroseH6965, and they wentH3318 out both of them, he and SamuelH8050, abroad. 27As they were goingH3381 downH3381 at the endH7097 of the cityH5892, SamuelH8050 saidH559 to SaulH7586, Bid the servantH5288 passH5674 on before us (and he passedH5674 on), but standH5975 thou stillH5975 first, that I may cause thee to hearH8085 the wordH1697 of GodH430.
