1 Samuel 6

1And the arkH727 of Jehovah wasH1961 in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430 sevenH7651 monthsH2320. 2And the PhilistinesH6430 calledH7121 for the priestsH3548 and the divinersH7080, sayingH559, What shall we do with the arkH727 of Jehovah? show us wherewith we shall sendH7971 it to its placeH4725. 3And they saidH559, If ye sendH7971 awayH5493 the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, sendH7971 it not emptyH7387; but by all means returnH7725 him a trespass-offering: thenH227 ye shall be healedH7495, and it shall be knownH3045 to you whyH4100 his handH3027 is not removedH5493 from you. 4Then saidH559 they, What shall be the trespass-offering which we shall returnH7725 to him? And they saidH559, FiveH2568 golden tumors, and fiveH2568 golden miceH5909, according to the numberH4557 of the lords of the PhilistinesH6430; for oneH259 plagueH4046 was on you all, and on your lords. 5Wherefore ye shall makeH5414 imagesH6754 of your tumors, and imagesH6754 of your miceH5909 that mar the landH776; and ye shall giveH5414 gloryH3519 unto the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: peradventure he will lightenH7043 his handH3027 from off you, and from off your godsH430, and from off your landH776. 6Wherefore then do ye harden your heartsH3820, as the EgyptiansH4713 and PharaohH6547 hardened their heartsH3820? WhenH834 he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people goH7971, and they departed? 7NowH6258 thereforeH6258 takeH3947 and prepare you a newH2319 cartH5699, and twoH8147 milch kine, on which there hath comeH5927 no yokeH5923; and tie the kine to the cartH5699, and bringH7725 their calves home from them; 8and takeH3947 the arkH727 of Jehovah, and lay it upon the cartH5699; and putH5414 the jewels of goldH2091, which ye returnH7725 him for a trespass-offering, in a coffer by the sideH6654 thereof; and sendH7971 it awayH7971, that it may goH1980. 9And seeH7200; if it goeth up by the wayH1870 of its own borderH1366 to Beth-shemeshH1053, then he hath done us this greatH1419 evilH7451: but if not, then we shall knowH3045 that it is not his handH3027 that smote us; it wasH1961 a chanceH4745 that happened to us.

10And the menH376 did soH3651, and tookH3947 twoH8147 milch kine, and tied them to the cartH5699, and shutH3607 up their calves at home; 11and they putH7760 the arkH727 of Jehovah upon the cartH5699, and the coffer with the miceH5909 of goldH2091 and the imagesH6754 of their tumorsH2914. 12And the kine took the straightH3474 wayH1870 by the wayH1870 to Beth-shemeshH1053; they wentH1980 along the highwayH4546, lowing as they wentH1980, and turnedH5493 not asideH5493 to the rightH3225 handH3225 or to the left; and the lords of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH1980 after them unto the borderH1366 of Beth-shemeshH1053. 13And they of Beth-shemeshH1053 were reaping their wheatH2406 harvestH7105 in the valleyH6010; and they liftedH5375 up their eyesH5869, and sawH7200 the arkH727, and rejoicedH8055 to seeH7200 it. 14And the cartH5699 cameH935 into the fieldH7704 of JoshuaH3091 the Beth-shemite, and stoodH5975 there, where there was a greatH1419 stoneH68: and they clave the woodH6086 of the cartH5699, and offeredH5927 up the kine for a burnt-offering unto Jehovah. 15And the LevitesH3881 took down the arkH727 of Jehovah, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of goldH2091 were, and putH7760 them on the greatH1419 stoneH68: and the menH376 of Beth-shemeshH1053 offeredH5927 burnt-offerings and sacrificedH2076 sacrificesH2077 the same dayH3117 unto Jehovah. 16And when the fiveH2568 lords of the PhilistinesH6430 had seenH7200 it, they returnedH7725 to EkronH6138 the same dayH3117.

17And these are the golden tumorsH2914 which the PhilistinesH6430 returnedH7725 for a trespass-offering unto Jehovah: for AshdodH795 oneH259, for GazaH5804 oneH259, for AshkelonH831 oneH259, for GathH1661 oneH259, for EkronH6138 oneH259; 18and the golden miceH5909, according to the numberH4557 of all the citiesH5892 of the PhilistinesH6430 belonging to the fiveH2568 lords, both of fortified citiesH5892 and of countryH7704 villages, even unto the greatH1419 stone, whereon they set down the arkH727 of Jehovah, which stone remaineth unto this dayH3117 in the fieldH7704 of JoshuaH3091 the Beth-shemite.

19And he smote of the menH376 of Beth-shemeshH1053, because they had lookedH7200 into the arkH727 of Jehovah, he smote of the peopleH5971 seventyH7657 menH376, andfiftyH2572 thousandH505 menH376; and the peopleH5971 mournedH56, because Jehovah had smitten the peopleH5971 with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347. 20And the menH376 of Beth-shemeshH1053 saidH559, Who is ableH3201 to standH5975 before Jehovah, this holyH6918 GodH430? and to whom shall he goH5927 up from us? 21And they sentH7971 messengersH4397 to the inhabitantsH3427 of Kiriath-jearimH7157, sayingH559, The PhilistinesH6430 have broughtH5927 backH7725 the arkH727 of Jehovah; comeH5927 ye downH3381, and fetch it up to you.
