1 Samuel 12

American Standard Version

1And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto all IsraelH3478, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voiceH6963 in all that ye saidH559 unto me, and have made a kingH4428 over you. 2And nowH6258, behold, the kingH4428 walketh before you; and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sonsH1121 are with you: and I have walkedH1980 before you from my youthH5271 unto this dayH3117. 3HereH2005 I am: witness against me before Jehovah, and before his anointedH4899: whose oxH7794 have I takenH3947? or whose ass have I takenH3947? or whom have I defraudedH6231? whom have I oppressedH6231? or of whose handH3027 have I takenH3947 a ransomH3724 to blind mine eyesH5869 therewith? and I will restoreH7725 it you. 4And they saidH559, Thou hast not defraudedH6231 us, nor oppressedH6231 us, neither hast thou takenH3947 aught of any man’sH376 handH3027. 5And he saidH559 unto them, Jehovah is witnessH5707 against you, and his anointedH4899 is witnessH5707 this dayH3117, that ye have not foundH4672 aught in my handH3027. And they saidH559, He is witnessH5707.

6And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto the peopleH5971, It is Jehovah that appointed MosesH4872 and AaronH175, and that broughtH5927 your fathersH1 up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 7NowH6258 thereforeH6258 standH3320 still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous actsH6213 of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathersH1. 8WhenH834 JacobH3290 was comeH935 into EgyptH4714, and your fathersH1 criedH2199 unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sentH7971 MosesH4872 and AaronH175, who broughtH935 forthH3318 your fathersH1 out of EgyptH4714, and made them to dwellH3427 in this placeH4725. 9But they forgat Jehovah their GodH430; and he soldH4376 them into the handH3027 of SiseraH5516, captain of the hostH6635 of HazorH2674, and into the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430, and into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of MoabH4124; and they foughtH3898 against them. 10And they criedH2199 unto Jehovah, and saidH559, We have sinnedH2398, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have servedH5647 the Baalim and the AshtarothH6252: but nowH6258 deliverH5337 us out of the handH3027 of our enemiesH341, and we will serveH5647 thee. 11And Jehovah sentH7971 JerubbaalH3378, and BedanH917, and JephthahH3316, and SamuelH8050, and deliveredH5337 you out of the handH3027 of your enemiesH341 on every side; and ye dweltH3427 in safety. 12And when ye sawH7200 that NahashH5176 the kingH4428 of the children of AmmonH5983 cameH935 against you, ye saidH559 unto me, Nay, but a kingH4428 shall reignH4427 over us; when Jehovah your GodH430 was your kingH4428. 13NowH6258 thereforeH6258 behold the kingH4428 whom ye have chosenH977, and whom ye have askedH7592 for: and, behold, Jehovah hath setH5414 a kingH4428 over you. 14If ye will fearH3372 Jehovah, and serveH5647 him, and hearken unto his voiceH6963, and not rebelH4784 against the commandment of Jehovah, and both ye and alsoH1571 the kingH4428 that reigneth over you beH1961 followers of Jehovah your GodH430, wellH1571: 15but if ye will not hearken unto the voiceH6963 of Jehovah, but rebelH4784 against the commandment of Jehovah, then will the handH3027 of Jehovah beH1961 against you, as it wasH1961 against your fathersH1. 16NowH6258 thereforeH6258 standH3320 still and seeH7200 this greatH1419 thingH1697, which Jehovah will do before your eyesH5869. 17Is it not wheatH2406 harvestH7105 to-day? I will callH7121 unto Jehovah, that he may send thunderH6963 and rainH4306; and ye shall knowH3045 and seeH7200 that your wickednessH7451 is greatH7227, which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah, in askingH7592 you a kingH4428. 18So SamuelH8050 calledH7121 unto Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunderH6963 and rainH4306 that dayH3117: and all the peopleH5971 greatly fearedH3372 Jehovah and SamuelH8050.

19And all the peopleH5971 saidH559 unto SamuelH8050, PrayH6419 for thy servantsH5650 unto Jehovah thy GodH430, that we dieH4191 not; for we have addedH3254 unto all our sinsH2403 this evilH7451, to askH7592 us a kingH4428. 20And SamuelH8050 saidH559 unto the peopleH5971, FearH3372 not: ye have indeed done all this evilH7451; yet turnH5493 not asideH5493 from following Jehovah, but serveH5647 Jehovah with all your heartH3824: 21and turnH5493 ye not asideH5493; for then would ye go after vain things which cannot profitH3276 nor deliverH5337, for they are vain. 22For Jehovah will not forsake his peopleH5971 for his greatH1419 name’sH8034 sakeH5668, because it hath pleased Jehovah to makeH6213 you a peopleH5971 unto himself. 23Moreover as for me, farH2486 be it from me that I should sinH2398 against Jehovah in ceasingH2308 to prayH6419 for you: but I will instructH3384 you in the goodH2896 and the rightH3477 wayH1870. 24OnlyH389 fearH3372 Jehovah, and serveH5647 him in truthH571 with all your heartH3824; for considerH7200 how greatH1431 things he hath done for you. 25But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your kingH4428.
