28ThenοὖνounG3767they broughtἌγουσινAgousinG71JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424fromCaiaphasΚαϊάφαKaiaphaG2533into thePraetoriumπραιτώριον·praitōrionG4232,and it was earlyπρωΐ.prōiG4404;and they themselvesαὐτοὶautoiG846did not enterεἰσῆλθονeisēlthonG1525thePraetoriumπραιτώριον,praitōrionG4232,soἵναinaG2443thatG2443they would not be defiledμιανθῶσινmianthōsinG3392,but might eatG2068the Passoverπάσχα.paschaG3957.

29ThereforeοὖνounG3767PilateΠιλᾶτοςPilatosG4091cameG1831outG1831to them and saidφησίν·phēsinG5346, “WhatτίναtinaG5101accusationκατηγορίανkatēgorianG2724are you bringingφέρετεphereteG5342against thisτούτου;¶toutouG3778ManἀνθρώπουanthrōpouG444?”

30They answeredἀπεκρίθησανapekrithēsanG611and saidG3004to him, “IfεἰeiG1487thisG3778ManG3778were nota criminalκακὸνkakonG2556,we would not have handedG3860Him overG3860to you.”

31SoοὖνounG3767PilateΠιλᾶτος·PilatosG4091saidG3004to them, “TakeλάβετεlabeteG2983Him yourselvesG4771,and judgeκρίνατεkrinateG2919Him accordingκατὰkataG2596to your lawνόμονnomonG3551.”The JewsἸουδαῖοι·IoudaioiG2453saidG3004to him, “We are notpermittedἔξεστινexestinG1832to putἀποκτεῖναιapokteinaiG615anyoneοὐδένα·oudenaG3762toG615deathG615.”

32This happenedsoG2443thatG2443the wordλόγοςlogosG3056of JesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424whichὃνhonG3739He saidG3004,indicatingσημαίνωνsēmainōnG4591whatG4169kindG4169of deathθανάτῳthanatōG2288He wasG3195goingG3195toG3195dieἀποθνῄσκειν.¶apothnēskeinG599,would be fulfilledπληρωθῇplērōthēaG4137.

33ThereforeοὖνounG3767PilateΠιλᾶτοςPilatosG4091enteredΕἰσῆλθενEisēlthenG1525the PraetoriumπραιτώριονpraitōrionG4232againπάλινpalinG3825,and summonedἐφώνησενephōnēsenG5455JesusἸησοῦνIēsounG2424and saidG3004to Him, “You are the KingβασιλεὺςbasileusG935of the JewsἸουδαίων;IoudaiōnG2453?”

34JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611,“Are you sayingλέγειςlegeisG3004thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778on your ownG1438,orἢēG2228did othersἄλλοιalloiG243tellG3004you aboutπερὶperiG4012Me?”

35PilateΠιλᾶτος·PilatosG4091answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611, “I amεἰμι;eimiG1510not a JewἸουδαῖόςIoudaiosG2453,am I? Your own nationἔθνοςethnosG1484and the chiefἀρχιερεῖςarchiereisG749priestsG749handedG3860You overG3860to me; whatτίtiG5101have You doneἐποίησας;¶epoiēsasG4160?”

36JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424answeredἈπεκρίθηApekrithēG611, “My kingdomβασιλείαbasileiaG932is not of thisτούτου·toutouG3778worldκόσμουkosmouG2889.IfεἰeiG1487My kingdomβασιλείαbasileiaG932were of thisτούτουtoutouG3778worldκόσμουkosmouG2889,My servantsὑπηρέταιhupēretaiG5257would be fightingἠγωνίζοντοēgōnizontoG75soG2443thatG2443I would not be handedG3860overG3860to the JewsἸουδαίοις·IoudaioisG2453;but asG3568itG3568isG3568,My kingdomβασιλείαbasileiaG932is notofG1782thisG1782realmG1782.”

37ThereforeοὖνounG3767PilateΠιλᾶτος·PilatosG4091saidλέγειςlegeisG3004to Him, “SoοὐκοῦνoukounG3766You are a kingβασιλεὺςbasileusG935?”JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611, “You sayG3004correctlythat I amG1510a kingβασιλεύςbasileusG935.For thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778purposeI have been bornγεγέννημαιgegennēmaiG1080,and for thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778I have comeἐλήλυθαelēluthaG2064into the worldκόσμονkosmonG2889:to testifyμαρτυρήσωmarturēsōG3140to the truthἀληθείᾳ.alētheiaG225.EveryoneπᾶςpasG3956who is of the truthἀληθείαςalētheiasG225listensἀκούειakoueiG191to My voiceφωνῆς.¶phōnēsG5456.”

38PilateΠιλᾶτος·PilatosG4091saidΛέγειLegeiG3004to Him, “WhatτίtiG5101is truthἀλήθεια;alētheiaG225?”And after sayingλέγειlegeiG3004thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778, hecameG1831outG1831againπάλινpalinG3825to the JewsἸουδαίουςIoudaiousG2453and saidG3004to them, “I findεὑρίσκωheuriskōG2147noG3762groundsG156atG3762allG3762for chargesG156in His case.

39However, you have a customσυνήθειαsunētheiaG4914that I releaseἀπολύσωapolusōG630oneἕναhenaG1520prisonerfor you at the Passoverπάσχα·paschaG3957;thereforeοὖνounG3767do you wishβούλεσθεboulestheG1014that I releaseἀπολύσωapolusōG630for you the KingβασιλέαbasileaG935of the JewsἸουδαίων;IoudaiōnG2453?”

40SoοὖνounG3767they shoutedἐκραύγασανekraugasanG2905againπάλινpalinG3825,sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “Not thisG3778ManG3778,but BarabbasΒαραββᾶν·BarabbanG912.”NowδὲdeG1161BarabbasΒαραββᾶςBarabbasG912was a rebelλῃστής.¶lēstēsG3027.
