People Affirm Their Covenant with God

1Then He saidאָמַ֜ר'a.MarH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֨הmo.ShehH4872, “Comeעֲלֵ֣ה'a.LehH5927upH5927to the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,you and Aaronוְאַהֲרֹן֙ve.'a.ha.RonH175,Nadabנָדָ֣בna.DavH5070and Abihuוַאֲבִיה֔וּאva.'a.vi.Hu'H30, andseventyוְשִׁבְעִ֖יםve.shiv.'ImH7657of the eldersמִזִּקְנֵ֣יmi.zik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and you shall worshipH2331at a distanceמֵרָחֹֽק׃me.ra.ChokH7350.

2Mosesמֹשֶׁ֤הmo.ShehH4872aloneלְבַדּוֹ֙le.va.DoH905,however, shall approachוְנִגַּ֨שׁve.ni.GashH5066the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,but they shall not approachיִגָּ֑שׁוּyi.Ga.shuH5066,norH3808shall the peopleוְהָעָ֕םve.ha.'AmH5971comeיַעֲל֖וּya.'a.LuH5927upH5927with him.”

3Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872cameוַיָּבֹ֣אvai.ya.Vo'H935and reportedוַיְסַפֵּ֤רvay.sa.PerH5608to the peopleלָעָם֙la.'AmH5971allכָּל־kol-H3605the wordsדִּבְרֵ֣יdiv.ReiH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068and allכָּל־kol-H3605theordinancesהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֑יםha.mish.pa.TimH4941;and allכָּל־kol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֜םha.'AmH5971answeredוַיַּ֨עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030with oneאֶחָד֙'e.ChadH259voiceק֤וֹלKolH6963and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Allכָּל־kol-H3605the wordsהַדְּבָרִ֛יםha.de.va.RimH1697whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has spokenדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696we will doנַעֲשֶֽׂה׃na.'a.SehH6213!”

4AndMosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872wroteH3789downH3789allכָּל־kol-H3605the wordsדִּבְרֵ֣יdiv.ReiH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068.Then he gotH7925upH7925earlyוַיַּשְׁכֵּ֣םvai.yash.KemH7925in the morningבַּבֹּ֔קֶרba.Bo.kerH1242,and builtוַיִּ֥בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129analtarמִזְבֵּ֖חַmiz.Be.achH4196atH8478theH8478footH8478ofH8478the mountainהָהָ֑רha.HarH2022with twelveוּשְׁתֵּ֤ים עֶשְׂרֵה֙u.she.Teim 'es.RehH8147 H6240memorialH4676stonesH4676for the twelveלִשְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖רlish.Neim 'a.SarH8147 H6240tribesשִׁבְטֵ֥יshiv.TeiH7626of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

5And he sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֗חvai.yish.LachH7971youngנַעֲרֵי֙na.'a.ReiH5288menH5288of the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and they offeredוַיַּֽעֲל֖וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927burntעֹלֹ֑ת'o.LotH5930offeringsH5930and sacrificedוַֽיִּזְבְּח֞וּvai.yiz.be.ChuH2076bullsפָּרִֽים׃pa.RimH6499as peaceשְׁלָמִ֛יםshe.la.MimH8002offeringsH8002to the Lordלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068.

6Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872tookוַיִּקַּ֤חvai.yi.KachH3947halfחֲצִ֣יcha.TziH2677of the bloodהַדָּ֔םha.DamH1818and putוַיָּ֖שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760itin basinsבָּאַגָּנֹ֑תba.'a.ga.NotH101, and the otherhalfוַחֲצִ֣יva.cha.TziH2677of the bloodהַדָּ֔םha.DamH1818he sprinkledזָרַ֖קza.RakH2236on the altarהַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ha.miz.Be.achH4196.

7Then he tookוַיִּקַּח֙vai.yi.KachH3947the Bookסֵ֣פֶרSe.ferH5612of the Covenantהַבְּרִ֔יתha.be.RitH1285and readוַיִּקְרָ֖אvai.yik.Ra'H7121itas the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971listenedבְּאָזְנֵ֣יbe.'a.ze.NeiH241;and they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “Allכֹּ֛לkolH3605that the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has spokenדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696we will doנַעֲשֶׂ֥הna.'a.SehH6213,and we will beH8085obedientH8085!”

8SoMosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872tookוַיִּקַּ֤חvai.yi.KachH3947the bloodהַדָּ֔םha.DamH1818and sprinkledוַיִּזְרֹ֖קvai.yiz.RokH2236iton the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971,and saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009the bloodדַֽם־dam-H1818of the covenantהַבְּרִית֙ha.be.RitH1285,whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068hasmadeכָּרַ֤תka.RatH3772with youinH5921accordanceH5921withH5921allכָּל־kol-H3605theseהָאֵֽלֶּה׃ha.'E.lehH428wordsהַדְּבָרִ֖יםha.de.va.RimH1697.”

9Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872wentH5927upH5927with Aaronוְאַהֲרֹ֑ןve.'a.ha.RonH175,Nadabנָדָב֙na.DavH5070and Abihuוַאֲבִיה֔וּאva.'a.vi.Hu'H30,and seventyוְשִׁבְעִ֖יםve.shiv.'ImH7657of the eldersמִזִּקְנֵ֥יmi.zik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478,

10andthey sawוַיִּרְא֕וּvai.yir.'UH7200the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478;and underוְתַ֣חַתve.Ta.chatH8478His feetרַגְלָ֗יוrag.LavH7272there appeared to be a pavementלִבְנַ֣תliv.NatH3843of sapphireהַסַּפִּ֔ירha.sa.PirH5601,as clearלָטֹֽהַר׃la.To.harH2892as the skyהַשָּׁמַ֖יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064itselfוּכְעֶ֥צֶםu.khe.'E.tzemH6106.

11Yet He did not reachH7971outH7971with His handיָד֑וֹya.DoH3027againstוְאֶל־ve.'el-H413the noblesאֲצִילֵי֙'a.tzi.LeiH678of the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478; andthey sawוַֽיֶּחֱזוּ֙vai.ye.che.ZuH2372Godהָ֣אֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,and they ateוַיֹּאכְל֖וּvai.yo.khe.LuH398and drankוַיִּשְׁתּֽוּ׃ סvai.yish.TuH8354.

12Now the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֗הmo.ShehH4872, “Comeעֲלֵ֥ה'a.LehH5927upH5927to Me on the mountainהָהָ֖רָהha.Ha.rahH2022andstayוֶהְיֵה־veh.yeh-H1961thereשָׁ֑םShamH8033, andI will giveוְאֶתְּנָ֨הve.'e.te.NahH5414you the stoneהָאֶ֗בֶןha.'E.venH68tabletsלֻחֹ֣תlu.ChotH3871with the Lawוְהַתּוֹרָה֙ve.ha.to.RahH8451and thecommandmentsוְהַמִּצְוָ֔הve.ha.mitz.VahH4687whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I have writtenכָּתַ֖בְתִּיka.Tav.tiH3789for their instructionלְהוֹרֹתָֽם׃le.ho.ro.TamH3384.”

13So Mosesמֹשֶׁ֔הmo.ShehH4872gotH6965upH6965along withJoshuaוִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַvi.ho.Shu.a'H3091hisservantמְשָׁרְת֑וֹme.sha.re.ToH8334,and Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872wentH5927upH5927tothe mountainהַ֥רharH2022of Godהָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ha.'E.lo.HimH430.

14But to the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֤יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205he saidאָמַר֙'a.MarH559, “Waitשְׁבוּ־she.vu-H3427hereבָזֶ֔הva.ZehH2088for us untilעַ֥ד אֲשֶׁר־'ad 'a.Sher-H5704 H834we returnנָשׁ֖וּבna.ShuvH7725to you. And beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009,Aaronאַהֲרֹ֤ן'a.ha.RonH175and Hurוְחוּר֙ve.ChurH2354are with you; whoeverמִי־mi-H4310has a legal matterדְּבָרִ֖יםde.va.RimH1697,have him approachיִגַּ֥שׁyi.GashH5066them.”

15Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872wentH5927upH5927to the mountainהָהָ֑רha.HarH2022, andthe cloudהֶעָנָ֖ןhe.'a.NanH6051coveredוַיְכַ֥סvay.KhasH3680the mountainהָהָֽר׃ha.HarH2022.

16The gloryכְּבוֹד־ke.Vod-H3519of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068settledוַיִּשְׁכֹּ֤ןvai.yish.KonH7931on Mountהַ֣רharH2022Sinaiסִינַ֔יsi.NaiH5514,and the cloudהֶעָנָ֖ןhe.'a.NanH6051coveredוַיְכַסֵּ֥הוּvay.kha.Se.huH3680it for sixשֵׁ֣שֶׁתShe.shetH8337daysיָמִ֑יםya.MimH3117;and on the seventhהַשְּׁבִיעִ֖יha.she.vi.'IH7637dayבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117Hecalledוַיִּקְרָ֧אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to Mosesמֹשֶׁ֛הmo.ShehH4872from the midstמִתּ֥וֹךְmi.TokhH8432of the cloudהֶעָנָֽן׃he.'a.NanH6051.

17And to the eyesלְעֵינֵ֖יle.'ei.NeiH5869of the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478,the appearanceוּמַרְאֵה֙u.mar.'EhH4758of the gloryכְּב֣וֹדke.VodH3519of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068was like aconsumingאֹכֶ֖לֶת'o.Khe.letH398fireכְּאֵ֥שׁke.'EshH784on the mountainהָהָ֑רha.HarH2022topבְּרֹ֣אשׁbe.RoshH7218.

18Then Mosesמֹשֶׁ֛הmo.ShehH4872enteredוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935the midstבְּת֥וֹךְbe.TokhH8432of the cloudהֶעָנָ֖ןhe.'a.NanH6051as he wentH5927upH5927to the mountainהָהָ֑רha.HarH2022;and Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872was on the mountainבָּהָ֔רba.HarH2022forfortyאַרְבָּעִ֣ים'ar.ba.'ImH705daysי֔וֹםYomH3117and fortyוְאַרְבָּעִ֖יםve.'ar.ba.'ImH705nightsלָֽיְלָה׃ פLa.ye.lahH3915.
