Genesis 35:1-10

1Then GodH430 saidH559 to JacobH3290, “AriseH6965, goH5927 up to 1BethelH1008 and 2liveH3427 thereH8033, and makeH6213 an altarH4196 thereH8033 to 3GodH410, who appearedH7200 to you 4when you fledH1272 5from your brotherH251 EsauH6215.” 2So JacobH3290 saidH559 to his 6householdH1004 and to allH3605 whoH834 were with him, “PutH5493 awayH5493 7the foreignH5236 godsH430 whichH834 are amongH8432 you, and 8purifyH2891 yourselves and changeH2498 your garmentsH8071; 3and let us ariseH6965 and goH5927 up to BethelH1008, and I will makeH6213 9an altarH4196 thereH8033 to GodH410, 10who answeredH6030 me in the dayH3117 of my distressH6869 and 11has beenH1961 with me 12whereverH1870H834 I have goneH1980.” 4So they gaveH5414 to JacobH3290 allH3605 the foreignH5236 godsH430 whichH834 13they hadH3027 and the ringsH5141 whichH834 were in their earsH241, and JacobH3290 hidH2934 them underH8478 the 14oakH424 whichH834 was nearH5973 ShechemH7927.

5As they journeyedH5265, there was 1516a greatH430 terrorH2847 upon the citiesH5892 whichH834 were aroundH5439 them, and they did not pursueH7291 the sonsH1121 of JacobH3290. 6So JacobH3290 cameH935 to 17LuzH3870 (that is, BethelH1008), whichH834 is in the landH776 of CanaanH3667, he and allH3605 the peopleH5971 whoH834 were with him. 718He builtH1129 an altarH4196 thereH8033, and calledH7121 the placeH4725 19El-bethelH416, becauseH3588 thereH8033 GodH430 had revealedH1540 Himself to him when he fledH1272 20from his brotherH251. 8Now 21DeborahH1683, Rebekah’sH7259 nurseH3243, diedH4191, and she was buriedH6912 belowH4480H8478 BethelH1008 underH8478 the oakH437; it was namedH7121H8034 22Allon-bacuthH439.

9Then GodH430 appearedH7200 to JacobH3290 againH5750 when he cameH935 from Paddan-aramH6307, and He 23blessedH1288 him. 1024GodH430 saidH559 to him, “Your nameH8034 is JacobH3290; 25You shall noH3808 longerH5750 be calledH7121 JacobH3290, But IsraelH3478 shall be your nameH8034.” Thus He calledH7121 26him IsraelH3478.
