Genesis 28
Revised Version 1895
1And IsaacH3327 calledH7121 JacobH3290, and blessedH1288 him, and chargedH6680 him, and saidH559 unto him, Thou shalt notH3808 takeH3947 a wifeH802 of the daughtersH1323 of CanaanH3667. 2AriseH6965, goH6965 to Paddan-aramH6307, to the houseH1004 of BethuelH1328 thy mother’sH517 fatherH1; and takeH3947 thee a wifeH802 from thence of the daughtersH1323 of LabanH3837 thy mother’sH517 brotherH251. 3And GodH410 AlmightyH7706 blessH1288 thee, and makeH6509 thee fruitfulH6509, and multiplyH7235 thee, that thou mayest be a companyH6951 of peoplesH5971; 4and giveH5414 thee the blessingH1293 of AbrahamH85, to thee, and to thy seedH2233 with thee; that thou mayest inheritH3423 the landH776 of thy sojourningsH4033, whichH834 GodH430 gaveH5414 unto AbrahamH85. 5And IsaacH3327 sentH7971 awayH7971 JacobH3290: and he wentH413 to Paddan-aramH6307 unto LabanH3837, sonH1121 of BethuelH1328 the SyrianH761, the brotherH251 of RebekahH7259, Jacob’sH3290 and Esau’sH6215 motherH517. 6NowH3588 EsauH6215 sawH7200 that IsaacH3327 had blessedH1288 JacobH3290 and sentH7971 him awayH7971 to Paddan-aramH6307, to takeH3947 him a wifeH802 from thence; and that as he blessedH1288 him he gaveH6680 him a chargeH5921, sayingH559, Thou shalt notH3808 takeH3947 a wifeH802 of the daughtersH1323 of CanaanH3667; 7and that JacobH3290 obeyedH8085 his fatherH1 and his motherH517, and was gone to Paddan-aramH6307: 8and EsauH6215 sawH7200 that the daughtersH1323 of CanaanH3667 pleasedH5869 notH3588 IsaacH3327 his fatherH1; 9and EsauH6215 wentH413 unto IshmaelH3458, and tookH3947 unto the wivesH802 whichH802 he had MahalathH4258 the daughterH1323 of IshmaelH3458 Abraham’sH85 sonH1121, the sisterH269 of NebaiothH5032, to be his wifeH802. 10And JacobH3290 wentH3318 outH3318 from Beer-sheba, and wentH3318 toward HaranH2771. 11And he lighted uponH935 a certain placeH4725, and tarried there allH7901 night, becauseH3588 the sunH8121 was setH7760; and he tookH3947 one of the stonesH68 of the placeH4725, and putH7760 it underH935 his headH4763, and layH7901 downH7901 in that placeH4725 to sleepH7901. 12And he dreamedH2492, and beholdH2009 a ladderH5551 setH5324 upH5927 on the earthH776, and the topH7218 of it reachedH5060 to heavenH8064: and beholdH2009 the angelsH4397 of GodH430 ascendingH5927 and descendingH3381 on it. 13And, beholdH2009, the LORDH3068 stoodH5324 aboveH5921 it, and saidH559, I am the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of AbrahamH85 thy fatherH1, and the GodH430 of IsaacH3327: the landH776 whereon thou liest, to thee will I giveH5414 it, and to thy seedH2233; 14and thy seedH2233 shall be as the dustH6083 of the earthH776, and thou shalt spreadH6555 abroadH6555 to the westH3220, and to the eastH6924, and to the northH6828, and to the southH5045: and in thee and in thy seedH2233 shall allH3605 the familiesH4940 of the earthH776 be blessedH1288. 15And, beholdH2009, I am with thee, and will keepH8104 thee whithersoever thou goest, and will bringH7725 thee againH7725 intoH413 this landH127; for I will notH3808 leaveH5800 thee, untilH5704 I have doneH6213 that whichH834 I have spokenH1696 to thee of. 16And JacobH3290 awaked outH3045 of his sleepH8142, and he saidH559, SurelyH403 the LORDH3068 is in this placeH4725; and I knewH3045 it notH3808. 17And he was afraidH3372, and saidH559, HowH4100 dreadful is this placeH4725! this is noneH369 otherH2088 but the houseH1004 of GodH430, and this is the gateH8179 of heavenH8064. 18And JacobH3290 roseH7925 upH7925 earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and tookH3947 the stoneH68 that he had putH7760 underH5921 his headH7218, and setH7760 it upH7925 for a pillarH4676, and pouredH3332 oilH8081 uponH5921 the topH7218 of it. 19And he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 Beth-el: but the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 was LuzH3870 at the firstH7223. 20And JacobH3290 vowedH5087 a vowH5088, sayingH559, IfH518 GodH430 will be with meH5414, and will keepH8104 meH5414 in this wayH1870 that I goH1980, and will giveH5414 meH5414 breadH3899 to eatH398, and raiment to putH5414 on, 21soH1961 that I comeH1961 againH7725 to my father’sH1 houseH1004 in peaceH7965, then shall the LORDH3068 be my GodH430, 22and this stoneH68, whichH834 I have setH7760 upH5414 for a pillarH4676, shall be God’sH430 houseH1004: and of allH3605 that thou shalt giveH5414 meH5414 I will surelyH5414 giveH5414 the tenthH6237 unto thee.
