Genesis 15:2-21
2AbramH87 saidH559, “O LordH136 1GodH3068, whatH4100 will You giveH5414 me, since I 2amH1980 childlessH6185, and the 3heirH1121H4943 of my houseH1004 is EliezerH461 of DamascusH1834?” 3And AbramH87 saidH559, “4SinceH2005 You have givenH5414 noH3808 5offspringH2233 to me, 6oneH1121 7bornH1121 in my houseH1004 is my heirH3423.” 4Then beholdH2009, the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 came to him, sayingH559, “ThisH2088 man will not be your heirH3423; 8but one whoH834 will comeH3318 forthH3318 from your own 9bodyH4578, he shall be your heirH3423.” 5And He tookH3318 him outsideH2351 and saidH559, “NowH4994 lookH5027 toward the heavensH8064, and 10countH5608 the starsH3556, ifH518 you are ableH3201 to countH5608 them.” And He saidH559 to him, “11SoH3541 shall your 12descendantsH2233 be.” 613Then he believedH539 in the LordH3068; and He reckonedH2803 it to him as righteousnessH6666. 7And He saidH559 to him, “I am the LordH3068 whoH834 broughtH3318 you out of 14UrH218 of the ChaldeansH3778, to 15giveH5414 you thisH2088 landH776 to 16possessH3423 it.” 8He saidH559, “O LordH136 17GodH3068, 18howH4100 may I knowH3045 that I will 19possessH3423 it?” 9So He saidH559 to him, “20BringH3947 Me a threeH8027 yearH8027 oldH8027 heiferH5697, and a threeH8027 yearH8027 oldH8027 femaleH5795 goatH5795, and a threeH8027 yearH8027 oldH8027 ramH352, and a turtledoveH8449, and a youngH1469 pigeonH1469.” 10Then he 21broughtH3947 allH3605 theseH428 to Him and 22cutH1334 them 23in twoH8432, and laidH5414 eachH376 halfH1335 oppositeH7122 the otherH7453; but he 24did not cutH1334 the birdsH6833. 11The birdsH5861 of preyH5861 cameH3381 downH3381 upon the carcassesH6297, and AbramH87 droveH5380 them awayH5380.
12Now when the sunH8121 was goingH935 down, 25a deepH8639 sleepH8639 fellH5307 upon AbramH87; and beholdH2009, 26terrorH367 and greatH1419 darknessH2825 fellH5307 upon him. 13God saidH559 to AbramH87, “KnowH3045 for certainH3045 that 27your 28descendantsH2233 will be strangersH1616 in a landH776 that is not theirsH1992, 29where 30they will be enslavedH5647 and oppressedH6031 31fourH702 hundredH3967 yearsH8141. 14But I will alsoH1571 judgeH1777 the nationH1471 whomH834 they will serveH5647, and afterwardH310H3651 they will comeH3318 out 32with 33manyH1419 possessionsH7399. 15As for you, 34you shall goH935 to your fathersH1 in peaceH7965; you will be buriedH6912 at a goodH2896 oldH7872 ageH7872. 16Then in 35the fourthH7243 generationH1755 they will returnH7725 hereH2008, for 36the iniquityH5771 of the AmoriteH567 is not yetH5704H2008 completeH8003.”
17It cameH1961 about when the sunH8121 had setH935, that it was veryH5939 darkH5939, and beholdH2009, there appeared a smokingH6227 ovenH8574 and a flamingH784 torchH3940 whichH834 37passedH5674 betweenH996 theseH428 piecesH1506. 18On that dayH3117 the LordH3068 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with AbramH87, sayingH559, “38To your 39descendantsH2233 I have givenH5414 thisH2088 landH776, From 40the riverH5104 of EgyptH4714 as farH5704 as the greatH1419 riverH5104, the riverH5104 EuphratesH6578: 1941the KeniteH7017 and the KenizziteH7074 and the KadmoniteH6935 20and the HittiteH2850 and the PerizziteH6522 and the RephaimH7497 21and the AmoriteH567 and the CanaaniteH3669 and the GirgashiteH1622 and the JebusiteH2983.”
