Paul’s Ministry
1For you yourselvesG846 knowG3609, brethrenG80, that our 12comingG1529 to you 3was not in vainG2756, 2but after we had alreadyG4310 sufferedG4310 and been 4mistreatedG5195 in 5PhilippiG5375, as you knowG3609, we hadG3955 the boldnessG3955 in our GodG2316 6to speakG2980 to you the 7gospelG2098 of GodG2316 amidG1722 muchG4183 89oppositionG73. 3For our 10exhortationG3874 does not come from 11errorG4106 orG3761 12impurityG167 orG3761 13by wayG1722 of 14deceitG1388; 415but justG2531 as we have been approvedG1381 by GodG2316 to be 16entrustedG4100 with the gospelG2098, soG3779 we speakG2980, 17not as pleasingG700 menG444, but GodG2316 who 1819examinesG1381 our heartsG2588. 5For we neverG3777G4218 cameG1096 20with flatteringG2850 speechG3056, as you knowG3609, norG3777 with 21a pretextG4392 for greedG4124--22GodG2316 is witnessG3144-- 6norG3777 did we 23seekG2212 gloryG1391 from menG444, eitherG3777 from you orG3777 from othersG243, even though as 24apostlesG652 of ChristG5547 25we might have 26assertedG1510G922 our authorityG922. 7But we 27provedG1096 to be 2829gentleG2261 30amongG1722G3319 you, 31as a nursingG5162 mother 32tenderlyG2282 caresG2282 for her ownG1438 childrenG5043. 8HavingG3655 soG3779 fondG3655 an affectionG3655 for you, we were well-pleasedG2106 to 33impartG3330 to you not onlyG3440 the 34gospelG2098 of GodG2316 but alsoG2532 our ownG1438 35livesG5590, becauseG1360 you had becomeG1096 36veryG27 dearG27 to us.
9For you recallG3421, brethrenG80, our 37laborG2873 and hardshipG3449, how 38workingG2038 nightG3571 and dayG2250 soG4314 as not to be a 39burdenG1912 to anyG5100 of you, we proclaimedG2784 to you the 40gospelG2098 of GodG2316. 10You are witnessesG3144, and so is 41GodG2316, 42howG5613 devoutlyG3743 and uprightlyG1346 and blamelesslyG274 we 43behavedG1096 toward you 44believersG4100; 11justG2509 as you knowG3609 howG5613 we were 45exhortingG3870 and encouragingG3888 and 4647imploringG3143 eachG1538 oneG1520 of you as 48a fatherG3962 would his ownG1438 childrenG5043, 12soG1519 that you would 49walkG4043 in a mannerG516 worthyG516 of the GodG2316 who 50callsG2564 you into His ownG1438 kingdomG932 and 51gloryG1391.
13For thisG3778 reasonG1223 we alsoG2532 constantlyG89 52thankG2168 GodG2316 that when you receivedG3880 the 53wordG3056 of GodG2316 whichG3739 you heardG191 from us, you acceptedG1209 it 54not as the wordG3056 of menG444, but for whatG2531 it reallyG230 is, the wordG3056 of GodG2316, 55whichG3739 alsoG2532 performsG1754 its workG1754 in you who believeG4100. 14For you, brethrenG80, becameG1096 56imitatorsG3402 of 57the churchesG1577 of GodG2316 in ChristG5547 JesusG2424 that are 58in JudeaG2453, for 59you alsoG2532 enduredG3958 the sameG846 sufferingsG3958 at the handsG5259 of your ownG2398 countrymenG4853, 60evenG2531 as they did from the JewsG2453, 1561who bothG2532 killedG615 the LordG2962 JesusG2424 and 62the prophetsG4396, and 63droveG1559 us out. 64They are not pleasingG700 to GodG2316, 65but hostileG1727 to allG3956 menG444, 1666hinderingG2967 us from speakingG2980 to the GentilesG1484 67soG2443 that they may be savedG4982; with the result that they alwaysG3842 68fillG378 up the measureG378 of their sinsG266. But 69wrathG3709 has comeG5348 upon them 70to the utmostG5056.
17But we, brethrenG80, having been takenG642 awayG642 from you for a 71shortG2540G5610 whileG5610--72in 73personG4383, not in 74spiritG2588--were allG4053 the moreG4053 eagerG4704 with greatG4183 desireG1939 75to seeG3708 your faceG4383. 1876For 77we wantedG2309 to comeG2064 to you--I, PaulG3972, 7879moreG2532G1364 thanG2532 onceG530--and yet 80SatanG4567 81hinderedG1465 us. 19For whoG5101 is our hopeG1680 orG2228 82joyG5479 orG2228 crownG4735 of exultationG2746? Is it not evenG2532 you, in the presenceG1715 of our LordG2962 JesusG2424 at His 8384comingG3952? 20For you are 85our gloryG1391 and joyG5479.
