Exodus 5
1And afterward MosesH4872 and AaronH175 cameH935, and saidH559 unto PharaohH6547, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, Let my peopleH5971 goH935, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wildernessH4057. 2And PharaohH6547 saidH559, Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken unto his voiceH6963 to let IsraelH3478 goH7971? I knowH3045 not Jehovah, and moreover I will not let IsraelH3478 goH7971. 3And they saidH559, The GodH430 of the HebrewsH5680 hath metH7122 with us: let us go, we pray thee, threeH7969 days’H3117 journeyH1870 into the wildernessH4057, and sacrificeH2076 unto Jehovah our GodH430, lestH6435 he fallH6293 upon us with pestilenceH1698, or with the swordH2719. 4And the kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 saidH559 unto them, Wherefore do ye, MosesH4872 and AaronH175, loose the peopleH5971 from their worksH4639? get you unto your burdens. 5And PharaohH6547 saidH559, Behold, the peopleH5971 of the landH776 are nowH6258 manyH7227, and ye make them rest from their burdens. 6And the same dayH3117 PharaohH6547 commandedH6680 the taskmastersH5065 of the peopleH5971, and their officersH7860, sayingH559, 7Ye shall no more giveH5414 the peopleH5971 strawH8401 to makeH5414 brickH3843, as heretofore: let them go and gather strawH8401 for themselves. 8And the number of the bricksH3843, which they did makeH7760 heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish aught thereof: for they are idle; thereforeH3651 they cryH6817, sayingH559, Let us goH7503 and sacrificeH2076 to our GodH430. 9Let heavierH3513 workH5656 be laid upon the menH376, that they may laborH5656 therein; and let them not regard lyingH8267 wordsH1697.
10And the taskmastersH5065 of the peopleH5971 wentH3318 out, and their officersH7860, and they spake to the peopleH5971, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith PharaohH6547, I will not giveH5414 you strawH8401. 11Go yourselves, get you strawH8401 whereH834 ye can findH4672 it: for nought of your workH5656 shall be diminishedH1639. 12So the peopleH5971 were scatteredH6327 abroad throughout all the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to gather stubbleH7179 for strawH8401. 13And the taskmastersH5065 were urgent sayingH559, Fulfil your worksH4639, your daily tasks, as when there wasH1961 strawH8401. 14And the officersH7860 of the children of IsraelH3478, whom Pharaoh’s taskmastersH5065 had setH7760 over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task both yesterdayH8543 and to-day, in making brick as heretofore?
15Then the officersH7860 of the children of IsraelH3478 cameH935 and criedH6817 unto PharaohH6547, sayingH559, Wherefore dealest thou thusH3541 with thy servantsH5650? 16There is no strawH8401 givenH5414 unto thy servantsH5650, and they sayH559 to us, MakeH5414 brickH3843: and, behold, thy servantsH5650 are beaten; but the fault is in thine own peopleH5971. 17But he saidH559, Ye are idle, ye are idle: thereforeH3651 ye sayH559, Let us goH7503 and sacrificeH2076 to Jehovah. 18Go thereforeH6258 nowH6258, and workH5647; for there shall no strawH8401 be givenH5414 you, yet shall ye deliver the number of bricksH3843. 19And the officersH7860 of the children of IsraelH3478 did seeH7200 that they were in evilH7451 case, when it was saidH559, Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricksH3843, your daily tasks. 20And they metH6293 MosesH4872 and AaronH175, who stoodH5324 in the way, as they cameH3318 forthH3318 from PharaohH6547: 21and they saidH559 unto them, Jehovah lookH7200 upon you, and judgeH8199: because ye have madeH5414 our savor to be abhorred in the eyesH5869 of PharaohH6547, and in the eyesH5869 of his servantsH5650, to putH5414 a swordH2719 in their handH3027 to slayH2026 us.
22And MosesH4872 returnedH7725 unto Jehovah, and saidH559, Lord, wherefore hast thou dealt ill with this peopleH5971? whyH4100 is it that thou hast sentH7971 me? 23For since I cameH935 to PharaohH6547 to speakH1696 in thy nameH8034, he hath dealt ill with this peopleH5971; neither hast thou deliveredH5337 thy peopleH5971 at all.
