Exodus 32
Revised Version 1895
1And when the peopleH5971 sawH7200 that MosesH4872 delayedH954 to comeH1961 downH3381 from the mountH2022, the peopleH5971 gatheredH6950 themselvesH5921 togetherH5921 unto AaronH175, and saidH559 unto him, UpH5927, makeH6213 usH413 godsH430, whichH834 shall goH5927 beforeH6440 usH413; for as for this MosesH4872, the manH376 that broughtH5927 usH413 upH5927 outH4480 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, weH3588 knowH3045 notH3808 whatH4100 is becomeH1961 of him. 2And AaronH175 saidH559 unto them, BreakH6561 offH6561 the goldenH2091 ringsH5141, whichH834 are in the earsH241 of your wivesH802, of your sonsH1121, and of your daughtersH1323, and bringH935 them unto meH413. 3And allH3605 the peopleH5971 brake offH6561 the goldenH2091 ringsH5141 whichH834 were in their earsH241, and broughtH935 them unto AaronH175. 4And he receivedH3947 it at their handH3027, and fashionedH3335 it with a gravingH2747 toolH2747, and madeH6213 it a molten calfH5695: and they saidH559, TheseH428 be thy godsH430, O IsraelH3478, whichH834 broughtH5927 thee upH5927 outH3027 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 5And when AaronH175 sawH7200 this, he builtH1129 an altarH4196 beforeH6440 it; and AaronH175 madeH7121 proclamationH7121, and saidH559, TomorrowH4279 shall be a feastH2282 to the LORDH3068. 6And they roseH6965 upH5927 earlyH7925 on the morrow, and offeredH5927 burntH5930 offeringsH8002, and broughtH5927 peaceH8002 offeringsH8002; and the peopleH5971 satH3427 downH3427 to eatH398 and to drinkH8354, and roseH6965 upH5927 to playH6711. 7And the LORDH3068 spake unto MosesH4872, GoH5927, getH5927 thee downH3381; for thy peopleH5971, whichH834 thou broughtest upH5927 outH413 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, have corruptedH7843 themselvesH1696: 8they have turnedH5493 asideH5493 quicklyH4118 outH4480 of the wayH1870 whichH834 I commandedH6680 them: they have madeH6213 them a molten calfH5695, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificedH2076 unto it, and saidH559, TheseH428 be thy godsH430, O IsraelH3478, whichH834 broughtH5927 thee upH5927 outH4480 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 9And the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto MosesH4872, I have seenH7200 this peopleH5971, and, beholdH2009, it is a stiffnecked peopleH5971: 10nowH6258 therefore letH6258 meH3615 aloneH6213, that my wrathH639 may wax hot againstH2734 them, and that I may consumeH3615 them: and I will makeH6213 of thee a greatH1419 nationH1471. 11And MosesH4872 besought the LORDH3068 his GodH430, and saidH559, LORDH3068, whyH4100 doth thy wrathH639 wax hot againstH2734 thy peopleH5971, whichH834 thou hast broughtH3318 forthH3318 outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 with greatH1419 powerH3027 and with a mightyH2389 handH3027? 12Wherefore should the EgyptiansH4713 speakH559, sayingH559, For evilH7451 didH4100 he bringH3318 them forthH3318, to slayH2026 them in the mountainsH2022, and to consumeH3615 them from the faceH6440 of the earthH127? TurnH7725 from thy fierceH2740 wrathH639, and repentH7725 of this evilH7451 againstH5921 thy peopleH5971. 13RememberH2142 AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327, and IsraelH3478, thy servantsH5650, to whomH834 thou swarest by thine ownH5769 self, and saidst unto them, I will multiplyH7235 your seedH2233 as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064, and allH3605 this landH776 that I have spokenH1696 of will I giveH5414 unto your seedH2233, and they shall inheritH5157 it for everH5769. 14And the LORDH3068 repentedH5162 of the evilH7451 whichH834 he saidH1696 he would doH6213 unto his peopleH5971. 15And MosesH4872 turnedH6437, and wentH3381 downH3381 from the mountH2022, with the twoH8147 tables of the testimonyH5715 in his handH3027; tables that were writtenH3789 on bothH8147 their sidesH5676; on the one sideH5676 and on the otherH2088 were they writtenH3789. 16And the tables were the workH4639 of GodH430, and the writingH4385 was the writingH4385 of GodH430, graven uponH5921 the tables. 17And when JoshuaH3091 heardH8085 the noiseH6963 of the peopleH5971 as they shoutedH7452, he saidH559 unto MosesH4872, There is a noiseH6963 of warH4421 in the campH4264. 18And he saidH559, It is notH369 the voiceH6963 of them that shoutH6963 for mastery, neitherH369 is it the voiceH6963 of them that cryH6963 for being overcomeH369: but the noiseH6963 of them that singH6030 doH8085 I hearH8085. 19And it cameH1961 to passH1961, as soonH7126 as he cameH1961 nigh unto the campH4264, that he sawH7200 the calfH5695 and the dancingH4246: and Moses’H4872 angerH639 waxed hot, and he castH7993 the tables outH413 of his handsH3027, and brake them beneathH8478 the mountH2022. 20And he tookH3947 the calfH5695 whichH834 they had madeH6213, and burntH8313 it with fireH784, and groundH1854 it to powderH1854, and strewed it uponH5921 the waterH4325, and madeH6213 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 drinkH8248 of it. 21And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto AaronH175, WhatH4100 didH6213 this peopleH5971 unto thee, that thou hast broughtH935 a greatH1419 sinH2401 uponH5921 them? 22And AaronH175 saidH559, LetH408 notH408 the angerH639 of my lordH113 wax hot: thou knowest the peopleH5971, that they are set on evilH7451. 23For they saidH559 unto meH6440, MakeH6213 usH3045 godsH430, whichH834 shall goH5927 beforeH6440 usH3045: for as for this MosesH4872, the manH376 that broughtH5927 usH3045 upH5927 outH3045 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, weH3588 knowH3045 notH3808 whatH4100 is becomeH1961 of him. 24And I saidH559 unto them, Whosoever hath anyH5414 goldH2091, letH5414 them breakH6561 it offH6561; soH5414 they gaveH5414 it meH5414: and I castH7993 it intoH7993 the fireH784, and there cameH3318 outH3318 this calfH5695. 25And when MosesH4872 sawH7200 that the peopleH5971 were broken loose; for AaronH175 had let them loose for a derisionH8103 among their enemiesH6965: 26then MosesH4872 stoodH5975 in the gateH8179 of the campH4264, and saidH559, Whoso is on the LORD’SH3068 side, let him come unto meH413. And allH3605 the sonsH1121 of LeviH3878 gatheredH622 themselvesH622 togetherH622 unto him. 27And he saidH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, PutH7760 ye everyH376 manH376 his swordH2719 uponH5921 his thighH3409, and goH7725 to and froH7725 from gateH8179 to gateH8179 throughoutH5921 the campH4264, and slayH2026 everyH376 manH376 his brotherH251, and everyH376 manH376 his companionH7453, and everyH376 manH376 his neighbour. 28And the sonsH1121 of LeviH3878 didH6213 accordingH4480 to the wordH1697 of MosesH4872: and there fellH5307 of the peopleH5971 that dayH3117 aboutH1697 threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376. 29And MosesH4872 saidH559, Consecrate yourselves todayH3117 to the LORDH3068, yeaH3588, everyH376 manH376 againstH5921 his sonH1121, and againstH5921 his brotherH251; that he may bestowH5414 uponH5921 youH3588 a blessingH1293 this dayH3117. 30And it cameH1961 to passH1961 on the morrow, that MosesH4872 saidH559 unto the peopleH5971, Ye have sinnedH2398 a greatH1419 sinH2398: and nowH6258 I will goH5927 upH5927 unto the LORDH3068; peradventure I shall make atonementH3722 for your sinH2398. 31And MosesH4872 returnedH7725 unto the LORDH3068, and saidH559, Oh, this peopleH5971 have sinnedH2398 a greatH1419 sinH2398, and have madeH6213 them godsH430 of goldH2091. 32Yet nowH6258, ifH518 thou wilt forgiveH5375 their sinH2403—; and ifH518 notH369, blot meH4994, I prayH4994 thee, outH4229 of thy bookH5612 whichH834 thou hast writtenH3789. 33And the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto MosesH4872, Whosoever hath sinnedH2398 againstH413 meH413, him will I blot outH413 of my bookH5612. 34And nowH6258 goH2009, leadH5148 the peopleH5971 unto the place of whichH834 I have spokenH1696 unto thee: beholdH2009, mine angelH4397 shall goH2009 beforeH6440 thee: neverthelessH2009 in the dayH3117 when I visitH6485, I will visitH6485 their sinH2403 uponH5921 them. 35And the LORDH3068 smoteH5062 the peopleH5971, becauseH5921 they madeH6213 the calfH5695, whichH834 AaronH175 madeH6213.
