Jeremiah 12

1RighteousH6662 are YouH859, O LORDH3068, whenH3588 I pleadH7378 before YouH413. YetH389 about Your judgmentsH4639 I wish to contendH1696 with YouH854:

WhyH4069 does the wayH1870 of the wickedH7563 prosperH6743?Why do all the faithlessH899H3605H898 live at easeH7951?2You planted themH5193, andH1571 they have taken rootH8327.They have grownH1980 andH1571 producedH6213 fruitH6529H7138.YouH859 are ever on their lipsH6310,but farH7350 from their heartsH3629.13But YouH859 know meH3045, O LORDH3068;You see meH7200 and testH974 my heartH3820 toward YouH854.Drag awayH5423 the wicked like sheepH6629 to the slaughterH2878and set them apartH6942 for the dayH3117 of carnageH2028.

God’s Answer to Jeremiah

4How longH5704H4970 will the landH776 mournH56 and the grassH6212 of everyH3605 fieldH7704 be witheredH3001? Because of the evilH7451 of its residentsH3427, the animalsH929 and birdsH5775 have been swept awayH5595, forH3588 the people have saidH559, “He cannotH3808 seeH7200 what our end will beH319.”

5“IfH3588 you have racedH7323 withH854 men on footH7273and they have worn you outH3811,howH349 can you competeH8474 withH854 horsesH5483?If youH859 stumbleH982 in a peacefulH7965 landH776,howH349 will you doH6213 in the thicketsH1347 of the JordanH3383?6EvenH3588H1571 your brothersH251—your own father’sH1 householdH1004—evenH1571 theyH1992 have betrayedH898 you;evenH1571 theyH1992 have criedH7121 aloudH4392 against youH310.Do notH408 trustH539 them,thoughH3588 they speakH1696 wellH2896 of youH413.
7I have forsakenH5800 My houseH1004;I have abandonedH5203 My inheritanceH5159.I have givenH5414 the belovedH3033 of My soulH5315into the handsH3709 of her enemiesH341.8My inheritanceH5159 has becomeH1961 to Melike a lionH738 in the forestH3293.She has roaredH5414H6963 against MeH5921;thereforeH5921H3651 I hate herH8130.9Is not My inheritanceH5159 to Melike a speckledH6641 bird of preyH5861with other birds of preyH58612 circlingH5439 against herH5921?GoH1980, gatherH622 allH3605 the beastsH2416 of the fieldH7704;bring themH857 to devour herH402.
10ManyH7227 shepherdsH7462 have destroyedH7843 My vineyardH3754;they have trampledH947 My plot of groundH2513.They have turnedH5414 My pleasantH2532 fieldH2513into a desolateH8077 wastelandH4057.11They have madeH7760 it a desolationH8077;desolateH8076 before MeH5921, it mournsH56.AllH3605 the landH776 is laid wasteH8074,butH3588 noH369 manH376 takesH7760 it toH5921 heartH3820.12OverH5921 allH3605 the barren heightsH8205 in the wildernessH4057the destroyersH7703 have comeH935,forH3588 the swordH2719 of the LORDH3068 devoursH398from one endH7097 of the earthH776 toH5704 the otherH7097H776.NoH369H3605 fleshH1320 has peaceH7965.
13They have sownH2232 wheatH2406 but harvestedH7114 thornsH6975.They have exhausted themselvesH2470 to noH3808 availH3276.Bear the shameH954 of your harvestH8393because of the fierceH2740 angerH639 of the LORDH3068.”

A Message for Israel’s Neighbors

(Amos 1:1–15)

14This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559: “As forH5921 allH3605 My evilH7451 neighborsH7934 who attackH5060 the inheritanceH5159 thatH834 I bequeathedH5157 to My peopleH5971 IsraelH3478H2005, I am about to uproot themH5428 fromH5921 their landH127, andH853 I will uprootH5428 the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 from among themH8432. 15ButH1961 afterH310 I have uprooted themH5428, I will once againH7725 have compassion on themH7355 and returnH7725 each oneH376 to his inheritanceH5159H376 and to his landH776.

16AndH1961 ifH518 they will diligently learnH3925 the waysH1870 of My peopleH5971 and swearH7650 by My nameH8034, saying, ‘As surely as the LORDH3068 livesH2416’—just asH834 they once taughtH3925 My peopleH5971 to swearH7650 by BaalH1168—then they will be establishedH1129 amongH8432 My peopleH5971. 17But ifH518 they will notH3808 obeyH8085, then I will uprootH5428 thatH1931 nationH1471; I will uproot itH5428 and destroy itH6, declaresH5002 the LORDH3068.”
