Jeremiah 13

1This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saidH559 to meH413: “GoH1980 and buyH7069 yourself a linenH6593 loinclothH232 and putH7760 it aroundH5921 your waistH4975, but do notH3808 let it touchH935 waterH4325.”

2So I boughtH7069 a loinclothH232 in accordance with the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, and I putH7760 it aroundH5921 my waistH4975.

3Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413 a second timeH8145H559: 4“TakeH3947 the loinclothH232 thatH834 you boughtH7069 and are wearingH5921H4975, and goH1980 at onceH6965 to PerathH65781 and hideH2934 it thereH8033 in a creviceH5357 of the rocksH5553.”

5So I wentH1980 and hid itH2934 at PerathH6578, asH834 the LORDH3068 had commanded meH6680.

6

ManyH7227 daysH3117 laterH7093 the LORDH3068 saidH559 to meH413, “AriseH6965, goH1980 to PerathH6578, and getH3947 the loinclothH232 thatH834 I commandedH6680 you to hideH2934 thereH8033.” 7So I wentH1980 to PerathH6578 and dug upH2658 the loinclothH232, and I tookH3947 it fromH4480 the placeH4725 whereH834 I had hidden itH2934H8033. But nowH2009 it was ruinedH7843—of noH3808 useH6743 at allH3605.

8Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413H559: 9“This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559: In the same wayH3602 I will ruinH7843 the prideH1347 of JudahH3063 andH853 the greatH7227 prideH1347 of JerusalemH3389. 10TheseH2088 evilH7451 peopleH5971, who refuseH3987 to listenH8085 to My wordsH1697, who followH1980 the stubbornnessH8307 of their own heartsH3820, and who goH1980 afterH310 otherH312 godsH430 to serveH5647 and worshipH7812 them, they will beH1961 like thisH2088 loinclothH232—of noH3808 useH6743 at allH3605.

11ForH3588 just asH834 a loinclothH232 clingsH1692 toH413 a man’sH376 waistH4975, so I have madeH3651 the wholeH3605 houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 andH853 the wholeH3605 houseH1004 of JudahH3063 clingH1692 to MeH413, declaresH5002 the LORDH3068, so that they might beH1961 My peopleH5971 for My renownH8034 and praiseH8416 and gloryH8597. But they did notH3808 listenH8085.

The Wineskins

12Therefore you are to tellH559 themH2088 thatH413 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, saysH559: ‘EveryH3605 wineskinH5035 shall be filledH4390 with wineH3196.’

And when they replyH559, ‘Don’t weH3808 surelyH3045 knowH3045 thatH3588 everyH3605 wineskinH5035 should be filledH4390 with wineH3196?’ 13then you are to tellH559 themH413 that this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068H2005 saysH559: ‘I am going to fillH4390 with drunkennessH7943 allH3605 who liveH3427 in thisH2063 landH776—the kingsH4428 who sitH3427 on David’sH1732 throneH3678, the priestsH3548, the prophetsH5030, and allH3605 the peopleH3427 of JerusalemH3389.

Captivity Threatened

14I will smash themH5310 againstH413 oneH376 anotherH251, fathersH1 and sonsH1121 alikeH3162, declaresH5002 the LORDH3068. I will allow noH3808 mercyH2550 or pityH2347 or compassionH7355 to keep Me from destroying themH7843.’”

15ListenH8085 and give heedH238. Do notH408 be arrogantH1361,forH3588 the LORDH3068 has spokenH1696.16GiveH5414 gloryH3519 to the LORDH3068 your GodH430beforeH2962 He brings darknessH2821,beforeH2962 your feetH7272 stumbleH5062onH5921 the duskyH5399 mountainsH2022.You waitH6960 for lightH216,but He turns itH7760 into deep gloomH6757 andH7896 thick darknessH6205.17But ifH518 you do notH3808 listenH8085,IH5315 will weepH1058 in secretH4565 because ofH6440 your prideH1466H1830.My eyesH5869 will overflowH3381 with tearsH1832,becauseH3588 the LORD’sH3068 flockH5739 has been taken captiveH7617.
18SayH559 to the kingH4428and to the queen motherH1377:“Take a lowlyH8213 seatH3427,forH3588 your gloriousH8597 crownsH5850 have fallenH3381 from your headsH4761.”
19The citiesH5892 of the NegevH5045 have been shut tightH5462,and no oneH369 can open themH6605.AllH3605 JudahH3063 has been carried into exileH1540,whollyH7965 taken captiveH1540.20Lift upH5375 your eyesH5869 and seeH7200those comingH935 from the northH6828.WhereH346 is the flockH5739 entrustedH5414 to you,the sheepH6629 that were your prideH8597?
21WhatH4100 will you sayH559 whenH3588 He setsH6485 over youH5921closeH441 alliesH7218 whom youH859 yourself trainedH3925?Will notH3808 pangs of anguishH2256 grip youH270,asH3644 they do a womanH802 in laborH3205?22And ifH3588 you askH559 yourselfH3824,“WhyH4069 has thisH428 happened to meH7122?”It is because of the magnitudeH7230 of your iniquityH5771that your skirtsH7757 have been stripped offH1540and your bodyH6119 has been exposedH2554.223Can the EthiopianH35693 changeH2015 his skinH5785,or the leopardH5246 his spotsH2272?NeitherH1571 are youH859 ableH3201 to do goodH3190—you who are accustomedH3928 to doing evilH7489.
24“I will scatter youH6327 like chaffH7179drivenH5674 by the desertH4057 windH7307.25ThisH2088 is your lotH1486,the portionH4521 I haveH854 measured to youH4055,”declaresH5002 the LORDH3068,“becauseH834 you have forgotten MeH7911and trustedH982 in falsehoodH8267.26SoH1571 IH589 will pull your skirtsH7757 upH2834 overH5921 your faceH6440,that your shameH7036 may be seenH7200.27Your adulteriesH5004 and lustful neighingsH4684,your shamelessH2154 prostitutionH2184onH5921 the hillsH1389 and in the fieldsH7704—I have seenH7200 your detestable actsH8251.WoeH188 to you, O JerusalemH3389!How longH310H4970H5750 will you remainH2891 uncleanH3808?”
