Jeremiah 10
1HearH8085 the wordH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 speaksH1696 to youH5921, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. 2This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068H413 saysH559:
“Do notH408 learnH3925 the waysH1870 of the nationsH1471or be terrifiedH2865 by the signsH226 in the heavensH8064H408,thoughH3588 the nationsH1471 themselves are terrifiedH2865 by them.3ForH3588 the customsH2708 of the peoplesH5971 are worthlessH1892H1931H3588;they cut downH3772 a treeH6086 from the forestH3293;it is shapedH4639 with a chiselH4621by the handsH3027 of a craftsmanH2796.4They adorn itH3302 with silverH3701 and goldH2091and fasten itH2388 with hammerH4717 and nailsH4548,so that it will notH3808 totterH6328.
5Like scarecrowsH8560 in a cucumber patchH4750,their idolsH1992 cannotH3808 speakH1696.They must be carriedH5375becauseH3588 they cannotH3808 walkH6805.Do notH408 fearH3372 them, forH3588 they can do noH3808 harmH7489,andH1571 neither can theyH369H854 do any goodH3190.”
6There is noneH369 like YouH3644, O LORDH3068.YouH859 are greatH1419, and Your nameH8034 is mightyH1419 in powerH1369.7WhoH4310 would notH3808 fear YouH3372, O KingH4428 of nationsH1471?This is Your dueH2969.ForH3588 among allH3605 the wiseH2450 men of the nationsH1471,and in allH3605 their kingdomsH4438,there is noneH369 like YouH3644.
8But they are altogetherH259 senselessH1197 and foolishH3688,instructedH4148 by worthless idolsH1892 made of woodH6086H1931!9HammeredH7554 silverH3701 is broughtH935 from TarshishH8659,and goldH2091 from UphazH210—the workH4639 of a craftsmanH2796from the handsH3027 of a goldsmithH6884.Their clothesH3830 are blueH8504 and purpleH713,allH3605 fashionedH4639 by skilled workersH2450.10But the LORDH3068 is the trueH571 GodH430;HeH1931 is the livingH2416 GodH430 and eternalH5769 KingH4428.The earthH776 quakesH7493 at His wrathH7110,and the nationsH1471 cannotH3808 endureH3557 His indignationH2195.
11ThusH1836 you are to tellH560 them: “These godsH426, whoH1768 have madeH5648 neitherH3809 the heavensH8065 nor the earthH778, will perishH7 from this earthH772 and fromH4481 underH8460 theseH429 heavensH8065.”1
12The LORD madeH6213 the earthH776 by His powerH3581;He establishedH3559 the worldH8398 by His wisdomH2451and stretched outH5186 the heavensH8064 by His understandingH8394.13When He thundersH6963H5414,the watersH4325 in the heavensH8064 roarH1995;He causes the cloudsH5387 to riseH5927from the endsH7097 of the earthH776.He generatesH6213 the lightningH1300 with the rainH4306and brings forthH3318 the windH7307 from His storehousesH214.
14EveryH3605 manH120 is senselessH1197 and devoid of knowledgeH1847;everyH3605 goldsmithH6884 is put to shameH3001 by his idolsH6459.ForH3588 his molten imagesH5262 are a fraudH8267,and there is noH3808 breathH7307 in them.15TheyH1992 are worthlessH1892, a workH4639 to be mockedH8595.In the timeH6256 of their punishmentH6486 they will perishH6.
16The PortionH2506 of JacobH3290 is notH3808 like theseH428,forH3588 HeH1931 is the MakerH3335 of all thingsH3605,and IsraelH3478 is the tribeH7626 of His inheritanceH5159—the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635 is His nameH8034.
The Coming Captivity of Judah
17Gather upH622 your belongingsH3666 from this landH776, you who liveH3427 under siegeH4692. 18ForH3588 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559:
“BeholdH2005, at thisH2063 timeH6471 I will sling outH7049the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776and bring distressH6887 upon themso that theyH4616 may be capturedH4672.”
19WoeH188 to me because ofH5921 my brokennessH7667;my woundH4347 is grievousH2470!But IH589 saidH559H389, “ThisH2088 is truly my sicknessH2483,and I must bear itH5375.”20My tentH168 is destroyedH7703,and allH3605 its ropesH4340 are snappedH5423.My sonsH1121 have departed from meH3318and are no moreH369.I have no oneH369 leftH5750 to pitchH5186 my tentH168or set upH6965 my curtainsH3407.
21ForH3588 the shepherdsH7462 have become senselessH1197;they do notH3808 seekH1875 the LORDH3068.ThereforeH5921H3651 they have notH3808 prosperedH7919,and all theirH3605 flockH4830 is scatteredH6327.22ListenH2009! The soundH6963 of a reportH8052 is comingH935—a greatH1419 commotionH7494 from the landH776 to the northH6828.It will makeH7760 the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 a desolationH8077,a hauntH4583 for jackalsH8577.2
23I knowH3045, O LORDH3068, thatH3588 a man’sH120 wayH1870 is not his ownH3808;noH3808 oneH376 who walksH1980 directsH3559 his own stepsH6806.24Correct meH3256, O LORDH3068,but onlyH389 with justiceH4941—notH408 in Your angerH639,orH6435 You will bring me to nothingH4591.
25Pour outH8210 Your wrathH2534 onH5921 the nationsH1471thatH834 do notH3808 acknowledge YouH3045,and onH5921 the familiesH4940thatH834 do notH3808 callH7121 on Your nameH8034.ForH3588 they have devouredH398 JacobH3290;they have consumed himH398 and finished him offH3615;they have devastatedH8074 his homelandH5116.
