Then I will forgiveH5545 their iniquityH5771 and their sinH2403.”

4So JeremiahH3414 calledH7121 BaruchH1263 sonH1121 of NeriahH5374, and at the dictationH6310 of JeremiahH3414, BaruchH1263 wroteH3789 onH5921 a scrollH4039H5612 allH3605 the wordsH1697 thatH834 the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696 to JeremiahH413.

5Then JeremiahH3414 commandedH6680 BaruchH1263H559, “IH589 am restrictedH6113; I cannotH3808H3201 enterH935 the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068; 6so youH859 are to goH935 to the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 on a dayH3117 of fastingH6685, and in the hearingH241 of the peopleH5971 you are to readH7121 the wordsH1697 of the LORDH3068 from the scrollH4039 you have writtenH3789 at my dictationH6310. Read themH7121 in the hearingH241 of allH3605 the people of JudahH3063 who are comingH935 from their citiesH5892.

7PerhapsH194 they will bringH5307 their petitionH8467 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and eachH376 one will turnH7725 from his wickedH7451 wayH1870; forH3588 great areH1419 the angerH639 and furyH2534 thatH834 the LORDH3068 has pronouncedH1696 againstH413 thisH2088 peopleH5971.”

14Then allH3605 the officialsH8269 sentH7971 word toH413 BaruchH1263 through JehudiH3065 sonH1121 of NethaniahH5418, the sonH1121 of ShelemiahH8018, the sonH1121 of CushiH3570, sayingH559, “BringH3947H3027 the scrollH4039 thatH834 you readH7121 in the hearingH241 of the peopleH5971, and comeH1980 here.”

So BaruchH1263 sonH1121 of NeriahH5374 tookH3947H3027 the scrollH4039 and wentH935 to themH413.

15“PleaseH4994 sit downH3427,” they saidH559, “and readH7121 it in our hearingH241.”

So BaruchH1263 readH7121 it in their hearingH241.

18“It was at his dictationH6310,” BaruchH1263 repliedH559. “He recitedH7121 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697 to meH413 and IH589 wroteH3789 them in inkH1773 onH5921 the scrollH5612.”

19Then the officialsH8269 saidH559 toH413 BaruchH1263H1980, “YouH859 and JeremiahH3414 must hide yourselvesH5641 and tellH3045 noH408 oneH376 whereH375 you areH859.”

Jehoiakim Burns the Scroll

20So the officials wentH935 toH413 the kingH4428 in the courtyardH2691. AndH853 having storedH6485 the scrollH4039 in the chamberH3957 of ElishamaH476 the scribeH5608, they reportedH5046 everythingH3605H1697 toH241 the kingH4428.

21Then the kingH4428 sentH7971 JehudiH3065 to getH3947 the scrollH4039, and he took itH3947 from the chamberH3957 of ElishamaH476 the scribeH5608. And JehudiH3065 read itH7121 in the hearingH241 of the kingH4428H241 and allH3605 the officialsH8269 who were standingH5975 besideH5921 him.

24Yet in hearingH8085 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697, the kingH4428 andH3605 his servantsH5650 did notH3808 become frightenedH6342H3808 or tearH7167 their garmentsH899. 25Even thoughH1571 ElnathanH494, DelaiahH1806, and GemariahH1587 urgedH6293 the kingH4428 notH1115 to burnH8313 the scrollH4039, he would notH3808 listenH8085 to themH413. 26Instead, the kingH4428 commandedH6680 JerahmeelH3396, a sonH1121 of the kingH4428, as well asH853 SeraiahH8304 sonH1121 of AzrielH5837 and ShelemiahH8018 sonH1121 of AbdeelH5655, to seizeH3947 BaruchH1263 the scribeH5608 and JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030. But the LORDH3068 had hidden themH5641.

Jeremiah Rewrites the Scroll

27AfterH310 the kingH4428 had burnedH8313 the scrollH4039 containing the wordsH1697 thatH834 BaruchH1263 had writtenH3789 at Jeremiah’sH3414 dictationH6310, the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 toH413 JeremiahH3414: 28“TakeH3947 anotherH312 scrollH4039 andH7725 rewriteH3789 on itH5921 the very wordsH3605H1697 thatH834 wereH1961 onH5921 the originalH7223 scrollH4039, whichH834 JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 has burnedH8313.

29You are to proclaimH559 concerningH5921 JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 that this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559: YouH859 have burnedH8313 theH2063 scrollH4039 and saidH559, ‘WhyH4069 have you writtenH3789 on itH5921 thatH559 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 would surely comeH935 and destroyH7843 thisH2063 landH776 and deprive itH7673 ofH4480 manH120 and beastH929?’

30ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559 aboutH5921 JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063: He will haveH1961 noH3808 one to sitH3427 onH5921 David’sH1732 throneH3678, and his bodyH5038 will beH1961 thrown outH7993 and exposed to heatH2721 by dayH3117 and frostH7140 by nightH3915. 31I will punishH6485 himH5921 andH5921 his descendantsH2233H5921 and servantsH5650 for their iniquityH5771. I will bringH935 on themH5921, onH5921 the residentsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, and onH413 the menH376 of JudahH3063, allH3605 the calamityH7451 about whichH834 I warned themH1696H413 but they did notH3808 listenH8085.”

32Then JeremiahH3414 tookH3947 anotherH312 scrollH4039 and gaveH5414 it toH413 the scribeH5608 BaruchH1263 sonH1121 of NeriahH5374, and at Jeremiah’sH3414 dictationH6310 he wroteH3789 on itH5921 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of the scrollH5612 thatH834 JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 had burnedH8313 in the fireH784. And manyH7227 similarH5750 wordsH1697 were addedH3254 to themH5921.
