Jeremiah 22
1This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559: “Go downH3381 to the palaceH1004 of the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and proclaimH1696 thisH2088 messageH1697 thereH8033, 2sayingH559, ‘HearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, O kingH4428 of JudahH3063, who sitsH3427 onH5921 the throneH3678 of DavidH1732—youH859 and your officialsH5650 and your peopleH5971 who enterH935 theseH428 gatesH8179. 3This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559: AdministerH6213 justiceH4941 and righteousnessH6666. RescueH5337 the victim of robberyH1497 from the handH3027 of his oppressorH6216. Do noH408 wrongH3238 or violenceH2554 to the foreignerH1616, the fatherlessH3490, or the widowH490. Do notH408 shedH8210 innocentH5355 bloodH1818 in thisH2088 placeH4725.
4ForH3588 ifH518 you will indeed carry outH6213 theseH2088 commandsH1697, then kingsH4428 who sitH3427 onH5921 David’sH1732 throneH3678 will enterH935 through the gatesH8179 of thisH2088 palaceH1004 ridingH7392 on chariotsH7393 and horsesH5483—theyH1931 and their officialsH5650 and their peopleH5971. 5But ifH518 you do notH3808 obeyH8085 theseH428 wordsH1697, then I swearH7650 by Myself, declaresH5002 the LORDH3068, thatH3588 thisH2088 houseH1004 will becomeH1961 a pile of rubbleH2723.’”
A Warning about the Palace
6ForH3588 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559 concerningH5921 the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 of JudahH3063:
8And manyH7227 nationsH1471 will passH5674 byH5921 thisH2063 cityH5892 and askH559 oneH376H413 anotherH7453, ‘WhyH5921H4100 has the LORDH3068 doneH6213 such a thingH3602 to thisH2063 greatH1419 cityH5892?’
A Warning about Shallum
9Then people will replyH559, ‘BecauseH5921 they have forsakenH5800 the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 their GodH430 and have worshipedH7812 and servedH5647 otherH312 godsH430.’”
11ForH3588 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559 concerningH413 ShallumH79671 sonH1121 of JosiahH2977, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, who succeededH4427H8478 his fatherH1 JosiahH2977 but has gone forthH3318 fromH4480 thisH2088 placeH4725: “He will neverH3808 returnH7725H8033H5750,
A Warning about Jehoiakim
12butH3588 he will dieH4191 in the placeH4725 to whichH834 he was exiledH1540; he will neverH3808 seeH7200 thisH2063 landH776 againH5750.”
18ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559 concerningH413 JehoiakimH3079 sonH1121 of JosiahH2977 kingH4428 of JudahH3063:
A Warning to Coniah
24“As surely as IH589 liveH2416,” declaresH5002 the LORDH3068, “evenH3588 ifH518 you, ConiahH36594 sonH1121 of JehoiakimH3079 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, wereH1961 a signet ringH2368 onH5921 My rightH3225H3588 handH3027, I would pull youH5423 offH8033. 25In fact, I will hand you overH5414H3027 to thoseH834 youH859 dreadH3016H6440H3027, who want to takeH1245 your lifeH5315H3027—to NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894H3027 and to the ChaldeansH3778.5 26I will hurlH2904 youH853 andH853 the motherH517 whoH834 gave you birthH3205 intoH5921 anotherH312 landH776, whereH834 neitherH3808 of you were bornH3205—and thereH8033 you both will dieH4191. 27You will neverH3808 returnH7725 toH5921 the landH776 for whichH1992 you longH5375.”
