4And you are to tell themH559 thatH413 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559: ‘IfH518 you do notH3808 listenH8085 to MeH413 and walkH1980 in My lawH8451, whichH834 I have setH5414 before youH6440, 5and if you do not listenH8085 toH5921 the wordsH1697 of My servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, whomH834 IH595 have sentH7971 youH413 againH7925 and againH79711 even though you did notH3808 listenH8085, 6then I will makeH5414 thisH2088 houseH1004 like ShilohH7887, andH853 I will makeH5414 thisH2063 cityH5892 an object of cursingH7045 among allH3605 the nationsH1471 of the earthH776.’”

Jeremiah Threatened with Death

7Now the priestsH3548 and prophetsH5030 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 heardH8085 JeremiahH3414 speakingH1696 theseH428 wordsH1697 in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, 8and as soon asH1961 he had finishedH3615 tellingH1696 allH3605 the peopleH5971 everythingH3605 the LORDH3068 had commanded himH6680 to sayH1696, the priestsH3548 and prophetsH5030 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 seized himH8610, shoutingH559, “You must surely dieH4191! 9HowH4069 dare you prophesyH5012 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 thatH559 thisH2088 houseH1004 will becomeH1961 like ShilohH7887 and thisH2063 cityH5892 will be desolateH369H3427 and desertedH2717!”

10When the officialsH8269 of JudahH3063 heardH8085 theseH428 thingsH1697, they went upH5927 from the king’sH4428 palaceH1004 to the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 and satH3427 there at the entranceH6607 of the NewH2319 GateH8179.

11Then the priestsH3548 and prophetsH5030 saidH559 toH413 the officialsH8269 andH413 allH3605 the peopleH5971H559, “ThisH2088 manH376 is worthyH4941 of deathH4194, forH3588 he has prophesiedH5012 againstH413 thisH2063 cityH5892, asH834 you have heardH8085 with your own earsH241!”

12But JeremiahH3414 saidH559 toH413 allH3605 the officialsH8269 andH413 allH3605 the peopleH5971H559, “The LORDH3068 sent meH7971 to prophesyH5012 againstH413 thisH2088 houseH1004 and againstH413 thisH2063 cityH5892 allH3605 the wordsH1697 thatH834 you have heardH8085. 13So nowH6258, correctH3190 your waysH1870 and deedsH4611, and obeyH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430, so that HeH3068 might relentH5162 ofH413 the disasterH7451 He has pronouncedH1696 against youH5921. 14As for meH589, hereH2005 I am in your handsH3027; doH6213 to me what you thinkH5869 is goodH2896 and rightH3477. 15ButH389 know for certainH3045 thatH3588 ifH518 youH859 put me to deathH4191, youH859 will bringH5414 innocentH5355 bloodH1818 upon yourselvesH5921, uponH413 thisH2063 cityH5892, and uponH413 its residentsH3427; forH3588 trulyH571 the LORDH3068 has sent meH7971 to speakH1696 allH3605 theseH428 wordsH1697 in your hearingH241.”

Jeremiah Spared from Death

16Then the officialsH8269 and allH3605 the peopleH5971 toldH559 the priestsH3548H413 and prophetsH5030, “ThisH2088 manH376 is notH369 worthyH4941 of deathH4194, forH3588 he has spokenH1696 to usH413 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 our GodH430!”

17Some of the eldersH2205 of the landH776 stood upH6965H582 and saidH559 toH413 the wholeH3605 assemblyH6951 of the peopleH5971H559, 18“MicahH4320 the MoreshiteH4183 prophesiedH5012 in the daysH3117 of HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and toldH559H413 allH3605 the peopleH5971 of JudahH3063 that this is whatH3541H559 the LORDH3068 of HostsH6635 saysH559:

19Did HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 or anyone elseH3605 in JudahH3063 put him to deathH4191? Did Hezekiah notH3808 fearH3373 the LORDH3068 and seekH2470 His favorH6440, and did not the LORDH3068 relentH5162 ofH413 the disasterH7451 He had pronouncedH1696 against themH5921? But weH587 are about to bringH6213 greatH1419 harmH7451 onH5921 ourselvesH5315!”

The Prophet Uriah

20Now there wasH1961 another manH376H1571 prophesyingH5012 in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, UriahH223 sonH1121 of ShemaiahH8098 fromH7157 Kiriath-jearimH7157. But when UriahH223 found out about itH8085, he fledH1272 in fearH3372 and wentH935 to EgyptH4714.

22Then KingH4428 JehoiakimH3079 sentH7971 menH582 to EgyptH4714: ElnathanH494 sonH1121 of AchborH5907 along withH854H413 some other menH582. 23They broughtH3318 UriahH223 out of EgyptH4714 and took himH935 toH413 KingH4428 JehoiakimH3079, who had him putH5221 to the swordH2719 and his bodyH5038 thrownH7993 intoH413 the burial placeH6913 of the commonH1121 peopleH5971.

24NeverthelessH389, AhikamH296 sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227 supportedH3027H1961H854 JeremiahH3414, so he was notH1115 handed over toH5414 the peopleH5971 to be put to deathH4191.
