Jeremiah 13
Revised Version 1895
1ThusH3541 saidH559 the LORDH3068 unto meH413, GoH1980, and buyH7069 thee a linenH6593 girdleH232, and putH7760 it uponH5921 thy loinsH4975, and putH7760 it notH3808 in waterH4325. 2SoH7760 I boughtH7069 a girdleH232 accordingH5921 to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, and putH7760 it uponH5921 my loinsH4975. 3And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 unto meH413 the secondH8145 time, sayingH559, 4TakeH3947 the girdleH232 that thou hast boughtH7069, whichH834 is uponH5921 thy loinsH4975, and ariseH6965, goH6965 to EuphratesH6578, and hideH2934 it there in a hole of the rockH5553. 5SoH834 I went, and hidH2934 it by EuphratesH6578, as the LORDH3068 commandedH6680 meH6680. 6And it cameH1961 to passH1961 afterH7093 manyH7227 daysH3117, that the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto meH413, AriseH6965, goH6965 to EuphratesH6578, and takeH3947 the girdleH232 from thence, whichH834 I commandedH6680 thee to hideH2934 there. 7Then I went to EuphratesH6578, and digged, and tookH3947 the girdleH232 from the placeH4725 whereH834 I had hidH2934 it: and, beholdH2009, the girdleH232 was marred, it was profitable for nothingH3808. 8Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 unto meH413, sayingH559, 9ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, After this mannerH3602 will I mar the prideH1347 of JudahH3063, and the greatH7227 prideH1347 of JerusalemH3389. 10This evilH7451 peopleH5971, whichH834 refuseH3808 to hearH8085 my wordsH1697, whichH834 walkH1980 in the stubbornnessH8307 of their heartH3820, and are goneH1980 afterH310 otherH312 godsH430 to serveH5647 them, and to worshipH7812 them, shall evenH3808 be as this girdleH232, whichH834 is profitable for nothingH3808. 11For as the girdleH232 cleaveth to the loinsH4975 of a manH376, soH3651 have I causedH1961 to cleave unto meH413 the wholeH3605 houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 and the wholeH3605 houseH1004 of JudahH3063, saith the LORDH3068; that they might be unto meH413 for a peopleH5971, and for a nameH8034, and for a praiseH8416, and for a gloryH8597: but they would notH3808 hearH8085. 12Therefore thou shalt speakH559 unto them this wordH1697: ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, EveryH3605 bottle shall be filledH4390 with wineH3196: and they shall sayH559 unto thee, DoH3605 weH3588 notH3808 knowH3045 that everyH3605 bottle shall be filledH4390 with wineH3196? 13Then shalt thou sayH559 unto them, ThusH3541 saith the LORDH3068, BeholdH2005, I will fillH4390 allH3605 the inhabitantsH3427 of this landH776, evenH853 the kingsH4428 that sitH3427 uponH5921 David’sH1732 throneH3678, and the priestsH3548, and the prophetsH5030, and allH3605 the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, with drunkennessH7943. 14And I will dash them one againstH413 anotherH251, evenH3808 the fathersH1 and the sonsH1121 togetherH3162, saith the LORDH3068: I will notH3808 pityH2347, norH3808 spareH2550, norH3808 have compassionH7355, that I should notH3808 destroyH7843 them. 15HearH8085 ye, and giveH238 earH238; be notH408 proudH1361: for the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696. 16GiveH5414 gloryH3519 to the LORDH3068 your GodH430, beforeH2962 he causeH5414 darknessH6757, and beforeH2962 your feetH7272 stumbleH5062 uponH5921 the darkH2821 mountainsH2022; and, whileH5921 ye lookH6960 for lightH216, he turnH7760 it intoH5921 the shadowH6757 of deathH6757, and makeH7760 it gross darknessH6757. 17But ifH518 ye will notH3808 hearH8085 it, my soulH5315 shall weepH1058 in secretH4565 for your prideH1466; and mine eyeH5869 shall weepH1058 sore, and runH3381 downH3381 with tearsH1832, becauseH3588 the LORD’SH3068 flockH5739 is takenH7617 captiveH7617. 18SayH559 thou unto the kingH4428 and to the queen-mother, Humble yourselves, sitH3427 downH3381: for your headtires are comeH3381 downH3381, evenH3588 the crownH5850 of your gloryH8597. 19The citiesH5892 of the SouthH5045 are shutH5462 upH5462, and there is noneH369 to openH6605 them: JudahH3063 is carriedH1540 awayH1540 captiveH1540 allH3605 of it; it is whollyH3605 carriedH1540 awayH1540 captiveH1540. 20LiftH5375 upH5375 your eyesH5869, and beholdH7200 them that comeH935 from the northH6828: whereH346 is the flockH6629 that was givenH5414 thee, thy beautifulH8597 flockH6629? 21WhatH4100 wilt thou sayH559, when he shall set thy friends over thee as headH7218, seeingH3588 thou thyself hast instructedH559 them againstH5921 thee? shall notH3808 sorrows takeH270 holdH270 of thee, as of a womanH802 in travail? 22And ifH3588 thou sayH559 in thine heartH3824, Wherefore are theseH428 things comeH7122 upon meH3824? for the greatnessH7230 of thine iniquityH5771 are thy skirtsH7757 discovered, and thy heelsH6119 suffer violenceH2554. 23CanH3201 the EthiopianH3569 changeH2015 his skinH5785, or the leopardH5246 his spotsH2272? then may ye also doH3190 goodH3190, that are accustomedH3928 to doH3190 evilH7489. 24Therefore will I scatterH6327 them, as the stubbleH7179 that passeth awayH4057, by the windH7307 of the wildernessH4057. 25This is thy lotH1486, the portionH4490 measuredH4055 unto thee from meH7911, saith the LORDH3068; becauseH834 thou hast forgottenH7911 meH7911, and trustedH982 in falsehoodH8267. 26Therefore will I also discover thy skirtsH7757 uponH5921 thy faceH6440, and thy shameH7036 shall appearH7200. 27I have seenH7200 thine abominationsH8251, evenH5750 thine adulteriesH5004, and thy neighingsH4684, the lewdnessH2154 of thy whoredom, on the hillsH1389 in the fieldH7704. WoeH188 unto thee, O JerusalemH3389! thou wilt notH3808 be made cleanH2891; howH4970 longH5750 shall it yet be?
