Genesis 47:19-26
WhyH4100 should we perishH4191 before your eyesH5869—weH587 andH1571 our landH127 as wellH1571? PurchaseH7069 usH853 andH853 our landH127 in exchange for foodH3899. Then weH587, along with our landH127, will beH1961 slavesH5650 to PharaohH6547. Give usH5414 seedH2233 that we may liveH2421 and notH3808 dieH4191, and that the landH127 may notH3808 become desolateH3456.”
So JosephH3130 acquiredH7069 for PharaohH6547 allH3605 the landH127 in EgyptH4714; the EgyptiansH4713, one and allH376, soldH4376 their fieldsH7704 becauseH3588 the famineH7458 was so severeH2388 upon themH5921. The landH776 became Pharaoh’sH1961H6547, 21and Joseph reducedH5674 the peopleH5971 to servitudeH58921 from one endH7097H1366 of EgyptH4714 toH5704 the otherH7097. 22HoweverH7535, he did notH3808 acquireH7069 the priests’ portionH3548 of the landH127, forH3588 it had been given to them by PharaohH6547. They ateH398 the rations thatH2706 PharaohH6547 suppliedH5414; soH5921H3651 they did notH3808 sellH4376 their landH127.
Then JosephH3130 saidH559 toH413 the peopleH5971, “Now thatH2005 I have acquiredH7069 you and your landH127 for PharaohH6547 this dayH3117, hereH1887 is seedH2233 for you to sowH2232 in the landH127. 24At harvest timeH8393, you are to giveH5414 a fifthH2549 of it to PharaohH6547, and four-fifthsH702H3027 will beH1961 yours as seedH2233 for the fieldH7704 and food for yourselvesH400 and your householdsH1004H398 and childrenH2945.”
“You have saved our livesH2421,” they saidH559. “We have foundH4672 favorH2580 in our lord’sH113 eyesH5869, and we will beH1961 Pharaoh’sH6547 servantsH5650.” 26So JosephH3130 establishedH7760 a lawH2706 that a fifthH2569 of the produce belongs to PharaohH6547, and it is in effectH5704 inH5921 the landH127 of EgyptH4714 to thisH2088 dayH3117. OnlyH7535 the priestsH3548H905’ landH127 does notH3808 belong toH1961 PharaohH6547.
